Effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on pregnancy outcome:An overview

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection may have harmful effects on expectant moms,labor,and newborns born to infected mothers.There is a risk of the initiation of pregnancy with infection.Even if the gametes are non-infected,pregnancies could be exposed later for infection by coronavirus.Investigations of COVID-19 during pregnancy highlighted the non-transmission or surprising transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to the offspring.However,other studies have exhibited the potential mother-to-fetus transmission.In this way,unanswered concerns about SARS-CoV-2 fetal transmission and the particular interface(s)controlling its pathogenesis throughout pregnancy persist.This review focuses on the potential effects of SARS-CoV-2 on vertical transmission,as well as the influence of the virus on pregnancy and placenta.

An Efficient Text Recognition System from Complex Color Image for Helping the Visually Impaired Persons

The challenge faced by the visually impaired persons in their day-today lives is to interpret text from documents.In this context,to help these people,the objective of this work is to develop an efficient text recognition system that allows the isolation,the extraction,and the recognition of text in the case of documents having a textured background,a degraded aspect of colors,and of poor quality,and to synthesize it into speech.This system basically consists of three algorithms:a text localization and detection algorithm based on mathematical morphology method(MMM);a text extraction algorithm based on the gamma correction method(GCM);and an optical character recognition(OCR)algorithm for text recognition.A detailed complexity study of the different blocks of this text recognition system has been realized.Following this study,an acceleration of the GCM algorithm(AGCM)is proposed.The AGCM algorithm has reduced the complexity in the text recognition system by 70%and kept the same quality of text recognition as that of the original method.To assist visually impaired persons,a graphical interface of the entire text recognition chain has been developed,allowing the capture of images from a camera,rapid and intuitive visualization of the recognized text from this image,and text-to-speech synthesis.Our text recognition system provides an improvement of 6.8%for the recognition rate and 7.6%for the F-measure relative to GCM and AGCM algorithms.

Bioaccumulation of Heavy Metals in Fish, Squids and Crustaceans from the Red Sea, Jeddah Coast, Saudi Arabia

Concentration of Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Zinc and Mercury were determined in the muscles, gills and liver of ten fish species (Epinephelus areolatus, Epinephelus radiates, Anthias squamipinnis, Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides, Snubnose emperor, Dicentrarchus labrax, Acanthopagrus bifasciatus, lutjanus kasmira, lutjanus ehrenbergii and Acanthurus gahhm) as well as three specimens of crustaceans (Metapenaeus dalli, Panulirus penicillatus and Portunus petagicus) and two Specimens of squids (Parateuthis tunicate and Chtenopteryx sicula) collected from Jeddah coastal water during 2014. The obtained results declared that, the average concentrations of heavy metals were as follows: Cd (0.098, 0.20, 0.106), Cu (0.358, 0.327, 1.536), Pb (0.3, 0.257, 0.196), Zn (3.00, 7.390, 4.999) μg/g wet weight in the muscle, gills and liver, respectively. While, the concentration of Hg was invariably undetectable in all samples of different organs of the collected fish species. The average concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and Hg in the soft part of the investigated crustaceans (Metapenaeus dalli, Panulirus penicillatus and Portunus petagicus) and squids (Parateuthis tunicate and Chtenopteryx sicula) were relatively higher compared with the muscle tissues in the examined fish species. The results of bioconcentration factor (BCFs) indicated that among examined metals Zn was the most readily absorbed by fish and the highest BAFs for examined fish species were determined in gill of Snubnose emperor.
