畜牧业是尼泊尔北部山区的重要生计支柱,提升牧草产量是我国对尼泊尔开展农业技术援助的关键领域。为筛选出适宜尼泊尔北部山区栽培的燕麦品种,于2019年5-10月在尼泊尔热索瓦县郎唐山区对12个燕麦品种(爱沃、太阳神、贝勒1、美达、科纳、林纳、青引1号、青海444、青海甜燕麦、陇燕2号、陇燕3号、Kamadhenu)的物候期、株高、产草量、穗含量、叶茎比和关键营养成分等进行了品比试验。结果表明:美达、科纳、青引1号、青海444、青海甜燕麦和Kamadhenu 6个品种能完成生育期,生育天数在115~141 d,其余多数品种只能达到乳熟期。各燕麦品种的株高为134.8~177.7 cm,其中引进品种太阳神、青海444、青海甜燕麦、美达和林纳的株高较对照品种Kamadhenu高6.3%~20.4%,存在极显著差异(P<0.01)。青海甜燕麦、青海444和美达的干草产量分别达到了14723.0、13491.0和13369.6 kg·hm^(-2),分别比对照品种Kamadhenu增产36.0%、24.7%和23.6%,差异极显著(P<0.01)。贝勒1、科纳和太阳神的叶茎比分别为0.40、0.38和0.36,是对照品种Kamadhenu的1.50~1.67倍。各燕麦品种的干物质、粗蛋白、总灰分、中性洗涤纤维和酸性洗涤纤维含量变化范围分别为93.5%~95.6%、5.7%~9.9%、4.4%~6.9%、68.2%~78.4%和39.3%~48.7%,其中太阳神的粗蛋白含量是对照品种Kamadhenu的1.57倍,存在极显著差异(P<0.01)。对各燕麦品种的10个农艺性状进行主成分分析及综合评价,结果表明,引进品种青海甜燕麦、美达、青海444和太阳神综合适应性较好,适宜在该地区推广种植。

1999年,在印度西部的纳尔玛达(Narmada)河的一条支流——奥尔桑(Orsang)河谷发现了一具孤立的智人头骨,这对于了解印度人类进化历史和南亚直立人与最古老的亚洲智人(或AMH,解剖学上现代的人)之间的联系有着重要的意义。化石是在古老的河流沉积物中发现的。对主体沉积和颅内沉积物的红外光释光(IRSL)测年结果显示,其年代为3—5万年。然而,对化石的直接测年(放射性碳加速器质谱测年AMS)结果表明,其年代最小为4981—5579年前。头骨被归类为圆颅型智人。头骨上最引人注意的特征是颅外有亚洲直立人头后部很发达的角圆枕。头骨最宽处在下部(颞骨)如直立人,这样的情况从来不见于智人。这可能是由于乳突的气窦化而形成的。乳突上脊发育,从破损的眉间区(20mm)可以看到很宽的额窦。所有这些粗壮的特征都表明Orsang头骨和晚期亚洲直立人之间具有遗传连续性。

Wheat Varietal Investigation for the Hill Region of Nepal

Multilocation testing of the Coordinated Varietal Trial for Mid-hill and High Hill(CVT-MHH)of wheat genotypes were conducted at different hill research stations of Nepal Agricultural Research Council(NARC)during the normal planting season of 2012-13 and *** genotypes including two check varieties were included in Randomized Complete Block(RCB)design with three replications in the *** on the different yield attributing traits were *** significant difference(p<0.01)among the genotypes for the days to heading,days to maturity,plant height,thousand grain weight and grain yield was observed in *** genotype BL 4061 had the highest grain yield with 3802 kg/ha followed by NL 1153(3736 kg/ha),NL 1159(3733 kg/ha),NL 1154(3674 kg/ha)and NL 1156(3462 kg/ha).In 2013-14 also a highly significant difference among the genotypes for all the recorded traits was observed and these genotypes were stable for the yield and yield attributing *** most promising genotype for the grain yield was NL 1153(5816 kg/ha)followed by NL 1178(5760 kg/ha),NL 1156(5454 kg/ha),NL 1159(5259 kg/ha)and NL 1179(5075 kg/ha).From the yield and other yield attributing trait wheat genotypes NL 1055,NL 1153,NL 1159,NL 1156 and NL 1179 need to be tested under farmers’field for further confirmation and release as variety.

Neurofibroma arising from intrathoracic vagus nerve is a rare entity. We present a 6-year-old child with stigmata of neurofibromatosis along with a lump in the back. She also had history of on and off cough. On investigation there was a large mediastinal mass abutting the trachea. She underwent a posterolateral thoracotomy with partial resection of the lump. Intraoperatively the mass appeared to arise from the vagus nerve. Post operative stay was uneventful. Biopsy of the mass revealed a benign neurofibroma with no evidence of invasion. She is presently asymptomatic after 1 year of follow-up.
