Indoor air dynamics and quality in high density residential buildings can be complex as it is affected by both building parameters,pollution sources,and outdoor meteorological *** present study used CONTAM simulations to investigate the intra-building transport and concentration of an inert pollutant continuously emitted from an underground garage of a 15-floor building under moderate Mediterranean *** effects of outdoor meteorological conditions(air temperature,wind speed and direction)on indoor distribution of the emitted pollutant was tested under constant *** importance of using actual transient meteorological data and the impact of their temporal resolution on calculated concentrations and exposure levels were also *** profiles of air exchange rate(AER)and CO concentration were shown to be sensitive to indoor-outdoor temperature difference,which controls the extent of the stack effect and its importance relative to wind *** under constant conditions,transient mode simulations revealed that the time needed for pollutant distribution to reach steady state can be quite long(>24h in some cases).The temporal resolution(Ih vs.8h)of the meteorological data input was also found to impact calculated exposure levels,in an extent that varied with time,meteorological conditions and apartment position.

The past two decades revealed a plethora of Ca^2＋-responsive proteins and downstream targets in plants, of which several are unique to plants. More recent high-throughput ＇omics＂ approaches and bioinformatics are exposing Ca^2＋-responsive cis-elements and the corresponding Ca^2＋-responsive genes. Here, we review the current knowledge on Ca^2＋-signaling pathways that regulate gene expression in plants, and we link these to mechanisms by which plants respond to biotic and abiotic stresses.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers（PBDEs） are commercial flame retardants that have been commonly used in vehicle interior to reduce fire-related hazards. Due to high temperatures and intense insolation that can be attained inside cars parked in the sun, additive PBDEs are prone to leach out and attach to in-vehicle dust, as well as to photo-debrominate. This study examines seasonal variations of concentrations of three common PBDE congeners（BDE-47, BDE-99 and BDE-209） in car dust in Israel. The overall concentrations of these BDEs ranged from 1 to 29 μg/g, and were higher in the summer than in the winter（average of 10.2 and5.3 μg/g, respectively）. Congener-specific concentrations showed distinct seasonal pattern,representing the interplay between leaching, evaporation and photodebromination. Photolysis of the three congeners, while adsorbed on glass filters and exposed to solar radiation, revealed first order kinetics with debromination rates on the order of 10-2/min. Hence, seasonal variations of the meteorological conditions were found to affect the in-vehicle PBDE concentrations, and are therefore expected also to affect the exposure of passengers to PBDEs.

Epigenetic modifications,including those on DNA and histones,have been shown to regulate cellular metabolism by controlling expression of enzymes involved in the corresponding metabolic *** turn,metabolic flux influences epigenetic regulation by affecting the biosynthetic balance of enzyme cofactors or donors for certain chromatin ***,non-enzymatic covalent modifications(NECMs)by chemically reactive metabolites have been reported to manipulate chromatin architecture and gene transcription through multiple ***,we summarize these recent advances in the identification and characterization of NECMs on nucleic acids,histones,and transcription factors,providing an additional mechanistic link between metabolism and epigenetics.

The diffraction-limited resolution of light focused by a lens was derived in 1873 by Ernst *** in 1952,a method to reach sub-diffraction light spots was proposed by modulating the wavefront of the focused *** a related development,super-oscillating functions,that is,band-limited functions that locally oscillate faster than their highest Fourier component,were introduced and experimentally applied for super-resolution *** till now,only simple Gaussian-like sub-diffraction spots were *** we show that the amplitude and phase profile of these sub-diffraction spots can be arbitrarily *** particular,we utilize Hermite–Gauss,Laguerre–Gauss and Airy functions to structure super-oscillating beams with subdiffraction *** structured beams are then used for high-resolution trapping and manipulation of nanometer-sized *** trapping potential provides unprecedented localization accuracy and stiffness,significantly exceeding those provided by standard diffraction-limited beams.

AIM: To determine whether temporal changes occurred in the pediatric vs adult inflammatory bowel disease(IBD), both in terms of number and type of yearly published ***:We aimed to evaluate all Pub Med-registered articles related to the field of IBD from January1,1993 and until December 31,*** searched for articles using the key words"inflammatory bowel disease"or"Crohn’s disease"or"ulcerative colitis"or"undetermined colitis",using the age filters of"child"or"adult".We repeated the search according to the total number per year of articles per type of article,for each year of the specified *** studied randomized controlled trials,clinical trials,case reports,meta-analyses,letters to the editor,reviews,systematic reviews,practice guidelines,and ***:We identified 44645 articles over the *** were 8687 pediatric-tagged articles vs 19750 adult-tagged *** 16208 articles were unaccounted and not assigned a"pediatric"or"adult"tag by Pub *** was an approximately3-fold significant increase in all articles recorded both in pediatric and adult *** significant increase was true for nearly every category of article but the number of clinical trials,meta-analysis,and randomized controlled trials increased proportionally more than the number of"lower quality"articles such as editorials or letters to the *** few guidelines were published every ***:There is a yearly linear increase in publications related to ***,there are more and more clinical trials and higher quality articles.

Osteoarthritis is a joint disease characterized by a poorly-defined inflammatory response that does not encompass a massive immune cell infiltration yet contributes to cartilage degradation and loss of joint mobility, suggesting a chondrocyte intrinsic inflammatory response. Using primary chondrocytes from joints of osteoarthritic mice and patients, we first show that these cells express ample pro-inflammatory markers and RANKL in an NF-κB dependent manner. The inflammatory phenotype of chondrocytes was recapitulated by exposure of chondrocytes to IL-1β and bone particles, which were used to model bone matrix breakdown products revealed to be present in synovial fluid of OA patients, albeit their role was not defined. We further show that bone particles and IL-1β can promote senescent and apoptotic changes in primary chondrocytes due to oxidative stress from various cellular sources such as the mitochondria. Finally, we provide evidence that inflammation, oxidative stress and senescence converge upon IκB-ζ, the principal mediator downstream of NF-κB, which regulates expression of RANKL, inflammatory, catabolic,and SASP genes. Overall, this work highlights the capacity and mechanisms by which inflammatory cues, primarily joint degradation products, i.e., bone matrix particles in concert with IL-1β in the joint microenvironment, program chondrocytes into an “inflammatory phenotype” which inflects local tissue damage.

Phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphatases （5PTases） components of membrane trafficking system. Recently, we that hydrolyze the 5＇ position of the inositol ring are key reported that mutation in AtSPTase7 gene reduced produc- tion of reactive oxygen species （ROS） and decreased expression of stress-responsive genes, resulting in increased salt sensitivity. Here, we describe an even more salt-sensitive 5ptase mutant, At5ptase9, which also hydrolyzes the 5＇ phos- phate groups specifically from membrane-bound phosphatidylinositides. Interestingly, the mutants were more tolerant to osmotic stress. We analyzed the main cellular processes that may be affected by the mutation, such as production of ROS, influx of calcium, and induction of salt-response genes. The At5ptase9 mutants showed reduced ROS produc- tion and Ca2~ influx, as well as decreased fluid-phase endocytosis. Inhibition of endocytosis by phenylarsine oxide or Tyrphostin A23 in wild-type plants blocked these responses. Induction of salt-responsive genes in wild-type plants was also suppressed by the endocytosis inhibitors. Thus, inhibition of endocytosis in wild-type plants mimicked the salt stress responses, observed in the AtSptase9 mutants. In summary, our results show a key non-redundant role of At5PTase7 and 9 isozymes, and underscore the localization of membrane-bound Ptdlns in regulating plant salt tolerance by coordinating the endocytosis, ROS production, Ca2＋ influx, and induction of stress-responsive genes.
