Parainfluenza Virus Types 1, 2, and 3 in Pediatric Patients with Acute Respiratory Infections in Beijing During 2004 to 2012

Background： Although human parainfluenza virus （HPIV） has been determined as an important viral cause of acute respiratory infections （ARIs） in infants and young children, data on long-term investigation are still lacking to disclose the infection pattern of HPIV in China. Methods： Nasopharyngeal aspirates were collected from 25,773 hospitalized pediatric patients with ARIs from January 2004 through December 2012 for respiratory virus screen by direct immuno-fluorescence assay. Results： Out of these specimens, 1675 （6.50%, 1675/25,773） showed HPIV positive, including 261 （1.01%, 261/25,773） for HPIVI, 28 （0.11%, 28/25,773） for HPIV2, and 1388 （5.39%, 1388/25373） for HPIV3, 2 of the samples were positive for both HPIV1 and HPIV3, and 36 were co-detected with other viruses. The positive rates of HPIVs were higher in those younger than 3 years old. HPIV3 was detected from all age groups, predominantly from patients under 3 years of age, and the highest frequency was found in those 6 months to 1-year old （352/4077, 8.63%）. HPlV3 was the dominant type in each of the years detected between May and July. HPIV1 showed a peak in every odd year, mainly in August or September. HPIV was detected most frequently from patients with upper respiratory infection （12.49%, 157/1257）, followed by bronchitis （ 11.13%, 176/2479）, asthma （9.31%, 43/462）, bronchiolitis （5.91%, 150/2536）, pneumonia （6.06%, 1034/17,068）, and those with underlying diseases （1.0%, 15/1506）. HPIV3 is the dominant type in these six disease groups referred above, especially in the asthma group. Conclusions： HPIV is one of the important viral causes of ARIs in infants and young children in Beijing based on the data from the hospitalized children covering a 9-year term. HPIV3 is the predominant type in all these years and in most of the disease groups. HPIVs with different types show different seasonality.

The spiking neural network(SNN),closely inspired by the human brain,is one of the most powerful platforms to enable highly efficient,low cost,and robust neuromorphic computations in hardware using traditional or emerging electron devices within an integrated *** the hardware implementation,the building of artificial spiking neurons is fundamental for constructing the whole ***,with the slowing down of Moore’s Law,the traditional complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS)technology is gradually fading and is unable to meet the growing needs of neuromorphic ***,the existing artificial neuron circuits are complex owing to the limited bio-plausibility of CMOS *** with volatile threshold switching(TS)behaviors and rich dynamics are promising candidates to emulate the biological spiking neurons beyond the CMOS technology and build high-efficient neuromorphic ***,the state-of-the-art about the fundamental knowledge of SNNs is ***,we review the implementation of TS memristor-based neurons and their systems,and point out the challenges that should be further considered from devices to circuits in the system *** hope that this review could provide clues and be helpful for the future development of neuromorphic computing with memristors.

The use of high-permittivity(high-k) thin films as gate dielectrics is essential in the development of lowpower electronics,In this work,rare-earth thulium oxide(Tm_(2)O_(3)) thin films were prepared by a facile solution process and annealed at various temperatures from 400 to 700℃.The evolution of the physical and dielectric properties of Tm_(2)O_(3) thin film with annealing temperature was *** is demonstrated that the Tm_(2)O_(3) thin film annealed at 600℃ exhibits the optimal performance,including a low leakage current of 3×10^(-10) A/cm^(2),a large areal capacitance of 250 nF/cm^(2) at 100 Hz,and a high permittivity value of *** Tm_(2)O_(3) thin film as a gate insulator was integrated into the thin film transistor(TFT) employing In_(2)O_(3)-based semiconducting *** In_(2)O_(3) TFT with 600℃-annealed Tm_(2)O_(3) dielectric exhibits the superior perfo rmance,with a high I_(on)/I_(off) of 1.65×10^(7),a small subthre shold swing(SS) value of 0.2 V/dec,a V_(TH) of+1.8 V,and a mobility of 1.68 cm^(2)/(V·s).Furthermore,an inverter constructed by connecting the TFT with a resistor exhibits full-swing *** work provides a facile and appealing method for preparing the high-k Tm_(2)O_(3) thin films as alternative gate dielectrics with the potential for use in low-power electronics and logic circuit applications.

Dynamic motion of quadrupedal robots on challenging terrain:a kinodynamic optimization approach

The dynamic motion of quadrupedal robots on challenging terrain generally requires elaborate spatial–temporal kinodynamic motion planning and accurate control at higher refresh rate in comparison with regular ***,conventional quadrupedal robots usually generate relatively coarse planning and employ motion replanning or reactive strategies to handle terrain *** resultant complex and computation-intensive controller may lead to nonoptimal motions or the breaking of locomotion *** this paper,a kinodynamic optimization approach is *** generate long-horizon optimal predictions of the kinematic and dynamic behavior of the quadruped robot on challenging terrain,we formulate motion planning as an optimization problem;jointly treat the foot’s locations,contact forces,and torso motions as decision variables;combine smooth motion and minimal energy consumption as the objective function;and explicitly represent feasible foothold region and friction constraints based on terrain *** track the generated motions accurately and stably,we employ a whole-body controller to compute reference position and velocity commands,which are fed forward to joint controllers of the robot’s *** verify the effectiveness of the developed approach through simulation and on a physical quadruped robot *** show that the quadruped robot can successfully traverse a 30°slope and 43% of nominal leg length high step while maintaining the rhythm of dynamic trot gait.

Association of Different Human Rhinovirus Species with Asthma in Children： A Preliminary Study

Background： Human rhinoviruses （HRVs） are divided into three genetic species： HRV-A, HRV-B, and HRV-C. The association of different HRV species with asthma in children in China has not yet been evaluated. This preliminary study aimed to assess the associations between different HRV species, particularly HRV-C, and asthma in young children in China. Methods： A total of 702 nasopharyngeal aspirates were obtained from 155 children with asthma （asthma group）, 461 children with acute respiratory infection （ARI） without asthma （nonasthma ARI group）, and 86 children from the control group. Semi-nested polymerase chain reaction （PCR） was used to detect HRVs, and PCR products were sequenced for species identification. Epidemiological characteristics of HRV-positive cases were analyzed. Results： HRVs were the most common pathogen （ 15.4%; 108/702） in the patients in this study. The prevalence of HRV was significantly different （F = 20.633, P = 0.000） between tile asthma （25.8%） and nonasthma ARI groups （11.1%）. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that in the 108 cases positive for HRVs, 41 were identified as HRV-A, 8 as HRV-B, and 56 as HRV-C, Comparing the asthma with the nonasthlna ARI group, Spearman＇s rank correlation analysis revealed an association between HRV-A （P 〈 0.05） and C （P 〈 0.01） and asthma, confirmed by regression analysis, with odds ratios of 2.2 （HRV-A） and 4.2 （HRV-C）. Conclusions： Our data revealed a high prevalence of HRVs in children in China, regardless of clinical status. HRV-C was the dominant species and may be one of the key factors in the association of HRVs with asthma.

Effect of hot isostatic pressure on the microstructure and tensile properties of γ'-strengthened superalloy fabricated through induction-assisted directed energy deposition

The microstructure characteristics and strengthening mechanism of Inconel738LC(IN-738LC) alloy prepared by using induction-assisted directed energy deposition(IDED) were elucidated through the investigation of samples subjected to IDED under 1050℃ preheating with and without hot isostatic pressing(HIP,1190℃,105 MPa,and 3 h).Results show that the as-deposited sample mainly consisted of epitaxial columnar crystals and inhomogeneously distributed γ’ phases in interdendritic and dendritic core *** HIP,grain morphology changed negligibly,whereas the size of the γ’ phase became increasingly *** further heat treatment(HT,1070℃,2 h + 845℃,24 h),the γ’ phase in the as-deposited and HIPed samples presented a bimodal size distribution,whereas that in the as-deposited sample showed a size that remained *** comparison of tensile properties revealed that the tensile strength and uniform elongation of the HIP + HTed sample increased by 5% and 46%,respectively,due to the synergistic deformation of bimodal γ’phases,especially large cubic γ’ ***,the relationship between phase transformations and plastic deformations in the IDEDed sample was discussed on the basis of generalized stability theory in terms of the trade-off between thermodynamics and kinetics.

Stability of the Phase Separation State for Compressible Navier-Stokes/Allen-Cahn System

This paper is concerned with the large time behavior of the Cauchy problem for Navier-Stokes/AllenCahn system describing the interface motion of immiscible two-phase flow in 3-D. The existence and uniqueness of global solutions and the stability of the phase separation state are proved under the small initial perturbations. Moreover, the optimal time decay rates are obtained for higher-order spatial derivatives of density,velocity and phase. Our results imply that if the immiscible two-phase flow is initially located near the phase separation state, then under small perturbation conditions, the solution exists globally and decays algebraically to the complete separation state of the two-phase flow, that is, there will be no interface fracture, vacuum, shock wave, mass concentration at any time, and the interface thickness tends to zero as the time t → +∞.

Effects of surface energy and substrate on modulus determination of biological films by conical indentation

Micro-/nano-indentation has become prevalent in evaluating the mechanical characteristics of biological samples,such as cells and ***,the existing contact models describing conical indentation ignore the joint effects of surface energy and substrate,and consequently cannot accurately extract the Young's modulus of biological samples deposited on *** finite element methods,we examine the conical indentation of biological films on substrates while taking surface energy into *** on the dimensional analysis,the explicit relationship between load and indentation depth is achieved for films with their moduli varying from 0.001 to 100 times that of the *** the classical Sneddon's model was employed to analyze the load-depth data,the measured modulus could reach 18 times the real modulus for films on harder substrates,but only 4%of the real modulus for films on softer ***,in micro-/nano-indentations,neglecting the contribution of surface energy would result in an overestimation of the Young's modulus of films depending on the contact *** analytical expression provided here can be utilized to precisely deduce the mechanical characteristics of biological films deposited on substrate from the load and indentation depth data of a conical indentation.
