Essential oils improve nursery pigs'performance and appetite via modulation of intestinal health and microbiota

Optimal intestinal health and functionality are essential for animal health and performance,and simultaneously intestinal nutrient transporters and intestinal peptides are also involved in appetite and feed intake control *** the potential of essential oil(EO)in improving animal performance and improving feed palatability,we hypothesized that dietary supplementation of cinnamaldehyde and carvacrol could improve performance and appetite of nursery pigs by modulating intestinal health and ***(100 mg/kg),carvacrol(100 mg/kg),and their mixtures(including 50 mg/kg cinnamaldehyde and 50 mg/kg carvacrol)were supplemented into the diets of 240 nursery pigs for 42 d,and data related to performance were ***,the influence of EO on intestinal health,appetite and gut microbiota and their correlations were *** supplementation increased(P<0.05)the body weight,average daily gain(ADG)and average daily feed intake(ADFI)of piglets,and reduced(P<0.05)diarrhea rates in nursery ***,EO increased(P<0.05)the intestinal absorption area and the abundance of tight junction proteins,and decreased(P<0.05)intestinal permeability and local *** terms of intestinal development and the mucus barrier,EO promoted intestinal development and increased(P<0.05)the number of goblet ***,we found that piglets in the EO-supplemented group had upregulated(P<0.05)levels of transporters and digestive enzymes in the intestine,which were significantly associated with daily gain and feed *** addition,EO supplementation somewhat improved appetite in nursery pigs,increased the diversity of the gut microbiome and the abundance of beneficial bacteria,and there was a correlation between altered bacterial structure and appetite-related *** findings indicate that EO is effective in promoting growth performance and nutrient absorption as well as in regulating appetite by improving intestinal health and ba

Survival Analysis of Patients Undergoing Intraoperative Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound in the Surgical Treatment of Malignant Glioma

Berberine Enhances Intestinal Mucosal Barrier Function by Promoting Vitamin D Receptor Activity

Objective:To evaluate if berberine can act on vitamin D receptors(VDR)and thereby regulate the expression of tight junction proteins(TJPs)in irritable bowel syndrome-diarrhea-predominant(IBS-D)***:The newborn rats were induced into IBS-D rat model via neonatal maternal separation combined with acetic acid chemical *** modeling,the model was evaluated and rats were divided into the control group and berberine treatment groups(0.85,1.7 and 3.4 mg/kg,once a day for 2 weeks).The distal colon was obtained and colonic epithelial cells(CECs)were isolated and cultured after IBS-D model *** vitamin D receptor response element(VDRE)reporter gene was determined in the CECs of IBS-D rats to analyze the effect of berberine on the VDRE *** overexpression or silencing technology was used to analyze whether VDR plays a role in promoting intestinal barrier repair,and to determine which region of VDR plays a role in berberine-regulated intestinal ***:The IBS-D rat model was successfully constructed and the symptoms were improved by berberine in a dose-dependent manner(P<0.05).The activity of VDRE promoter was also effectively promoted by berberine(P<0.05).Berberine increased the expression of TJPs in IBS-D CECs(P<0.05).VDR expression was significantly increased after transfection of different domains of VDR when compared to normal control and basic plasmid groups(all P<0.05).RT-qPCR and Western blot results showed that compared with the blank group,expressions of occludin and zonula occludens-1 were significantly higher in VDR containing groups(all P<0.05).Berberine plus pCMV-Myc-VDR-N group exerted the highest expression levels of occludin and zonula occludens-1(P<0.05).Conclusion:Berberine enhances intestinal mucosal barrier function of IBS-D rats by promoting VDR activity,and the main site of action is the N-terminal region of VDR.

This comprehensive review elucidates the complex interplay between gut microbiota and constipation in Parkinson’s disease(PD),a prevalent non-motor symptom contributing significantly to patients’morbidity.A marked alteration in the gut microbiota,predominantly an increase in the abundance of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes,is observed in PD-related *** treatments,although safe,have failed to effectively alleviate symptoms,thereby necessitating the development of novel therapeutic *** interventions such as prebiotics,probiotics,and fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)hold therapeutic *** prebiotics improve bowel movements,probiotics are effective in enhancing stool consistency and alleviating abdominal *** shows potential for significantly alleviating constipation symptoms by restoring gut microbiota balance in patients with *** promising developments,the causal relationship between changes in gut microbiota and PD-related constipation remains elusive,highlighting the need for further research in this expanding field.

Impacts of angiotensin II on retinal artery changes in apolipoprotein E deficient mice

AIM:To investigate the impacts of angiotensin II(Ang II)on retinal artery changes in apolipoprotein E deficient(apoE^(-/-))***:ApoE^(-/-)male mice were infused by minipumps with Ang II at 1000 ng/kg·min(Ang II group)or saline(control group)for *** were underwent ophthalmic fundus examination on day 0,14,and 28 of *** examination,ribonucleic acid(RNA)sequencing and local Ang II measurement of retinas were ***:Ophthalmic fundus examination showed Ang II infusion promoted the formation of retinal arterial aneurysm-like lesions on day *** coherence tomography revealed the ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer(GCIPL)thickness in the control group was significantly thinner than that in Ang II group(P<0.001).Hematoxylin-eosin staining demonstrated diffused swelling of GCIPL layer and its disordered structure in Ang II *** electron microscopy showed Ang II infusion caused aggravation of atherosclerotic lesions,including increased swelling,roughness,disorganization of the retinal vasculature,and vacuoles ***-sequencing and gene ontology enrichment analysis demonstrated that the structure and function of cellular membrane might be disturbed and visual function might be compromised by Ang *** local level of Ang II was higher in Ang II infusion group but did not show significant differences compared to the control group(P=0.086).CONCLUSION:Ang II infusion promotes the formation of retinal arterial aneurysm-like lesions in apoE^(-/-)mice,causing aggravation of atherosclerotic lesions,more severe disorganization of the retinal vasculature and disturbance of the cellular membrane.

The prediction of fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA)images from fundus structural images is a cutting-edge research topic in ophthalmological image *** comprises estimating FFA from fundus camera imaging,single-phase FFA from scanning laser ophthalmoscopy(SLO),and three-phase FFA also from *** many deep learning models are available,a single model can only perform one or two of these prediction *** accomplish three prediction tasks using a unified method,we propose a unified deep learning model for predicting FFA images from fundus structure images using a supervised generative adversarial *** three prediction tasks are processed as follows:data preparation,network training under FFA supervision,and FFA image prediction from fundus structure images on a test *** comparing the FFA images predicted by our model,pix2pix,and CycleGAN,we demonstrate the remarkable progress achieved by our *** high performance of our model is validated in terms of the peak signal-to-noise ratio,structural similarity index,and mean squared error.

Ir single atoms on NiFeZn-LDH matrix for exceptional oxygen evolution reaction

To address the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction(OER),a potential approach is to rationally design and fabricate extremely effective single atom catalysts(SACs).Using an appropriate matrix to stabilize single-atom active centers with optimal geometric and electronic structures is crucial for enhancing catalytic ***,we report the design and fabrication of Ir single atoms on NiFeZn layered double hydroxide(Ir-SAC/NiFeZn-LDH)electrocatalyst for highly efficient and stable *** is investigated that the NiFeZn support exhibits abundant defect sites and unsaturated coordination *** sites function to anchor and stabilize single Ir single atoms on the *** strong synergetic electronic interaction between the Ir single atoms and the NiFeZn matrix resulted in remarkable OER performance of the as-fabricated Ir-SAC/NiFeZn *** a loading Ir content of 1.09 wt.%,this catalyst demonstrates a highly stable OER activity,with an overpotential of 196 mV at 10 mA·cm^(−2) and a small Tafel slope of 35 mV·dec^(−1) for the OER in a 1 M KOH *** results significantly surpass the performance of the commercially available IrO_(2) catalyst.
