Prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among industrial employees in a modern industrial region in Beijing,China

Background:Growing industrialization of China exposes its labor population to the risk of musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs).This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of MSDs in a modern industrial region of Beijing.Methods:A cross-sectional study included 1415 employees in six industrial companies was conducted between January 2018 and May 2018 in Fangshan district,Beijng,China.Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire(NMQ)was used to collect the information about MSDs.Demographic factors,lifestyle factors,health and medical factors,and work-related factors were collected as independent variables.Descriptive statistics,the chi-squared(/2)test,and binary logistic regression analysis were used to analyze data.Results:Among 1415 participants,498 reported MSDs.The regions involved were the neck(25.16%),shoulders(17.17%),and upper back(13.29%).There was a significant statistical difference between frontline industrial workers and other staff in the prevalence of self-reported symptoms involving the shoulders(Х^2=4.33,P=0.037),wrists and hands(Х^2=8.90,P=0.003),and ankles and feet(Х^2=12.88,Plimited access to health information(P=0.004,OR=0.49),and negative attitude towards seeking healthcare(P=0.010,OR=1.77;P=0.009,OR=2.75)were associated with MSDs in frontline workers.Female gender(Plimited access to health information(P=0.013,OR=0.53),far distance to medical institution(P=0.009,OR=1.83),and negative propensity(P=0.009,OR=1.94;P=0.014,OR=2.74)were associated with MSDs in other staffs.Conclusions:The prevalence of MSDs among industrial employees has changed.Frontline

In this article,we study the boundedness properties of the averaging operator S_(t)^(γ) on Triebel-lizorkin spaces F_(p,q)^(α)(R^(n))for various p,q.As an application,we obtain the norm convergence rate for S_(t)^(γ)(f)on Triebel-lizorkin spaces and the relation between the smoothness imposed on functions and the rate of norm convergence of S_(t)^(γ) is given.

Study of steam heat transfer enhanced by CO_(2) and chemical agents: In heavy oil production

Steam flooding with the assistance of carbon dioxide (CO_(2)) and chemicals is an effective approach for enhancing super heavy oil recovery. However, the promotion and application of CO_(2) and chemical agent-assisted steam flooding technology have been restricted by the current lack of research on the synergistic effect of CO_(2) and chemical agents on enhanced steam flooding heat transfer. The novel experiments on CO_(2)–chemicals cooperate affected steam condensation and seepage were conducted by adding CO_(2) and two chemicals (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and the betaine temperature-salt resistant foaming agent ZK-05200).According to the experimental findings, a “film” formed on the heat-transfer medium surface following the co-injection of CO_(2) and the chemical to impede the steam heat transfer, reducing the heat transfer efficiency of steam, heat flux and condensation heat transfer coefficient. The steam seepage experiment revealed that the temperature at the back end of the sandpack model was dramatically raised by 3.5–12.8 °C by adding CO_(2) and chemical agents, achieving the goal of driving deep-formation heavy oil. The combined effect of CO_(2) and SDS was the most effective for improving steam heat transfer, the steam heat loss was reduced by 6.2%, the steam condensation cycle was prolonged by 1.3 times, the condensation heat transfer coefficient was decreased by 15.5%, and the heavy oil recovery was enhanced by 9.82%. Theoretical recommendations are offered in this study for improving the CO_(2)–chemical-assisted steam flooding technique.

Impact of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs on Antibiotic Use and Drug Resistance:Analysis of Data from Maternal and Child Health Care Hospitals in Hubei Province,China

ObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs(ASPs)on antibiotic use and drug resistance.MethodsThis was a retrospective,multicenter,management intervention study.The data from 85 maternity hospitals(maternal and child health care hospitals)in Hubei province from 2012 to 2019 were collected.The indicators related to antimicrobial drug use included the utilization rate of different grades of antimicrobial drugs,the intensity of antimicrobial agent use,the rational use of prophylactic antimicrobial agents before class I surgical incision,and pathogenic detection and consultation rates before antimicrobial drug use.ResultsSince the implementation,the purchase of antimicrobial agents in hospitals has been maintained within the prescribed range,and the defined daily dose system(DDDs)of antimicrobial agents has been reduced,prophylactic use and accurate treatment of antimicrobial agents related to class I surgical incision have been more reasonable.With the implementation of ASPs,the detection rate of imipenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii,cefotaxime-resistant Escherichia coli,and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus has been decreased in China from national bacterial resistance surveillance data.ConclusionASPs have positive effects on antibiotic use and drug resistance in 85 maternity hospitals(maternal and child health care hospitals).

Highly sensitive salinity sensor based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer with double-C fiber

This paper proposes a highly sensitive,compact,and low-cost optical fiber salinity sensor based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer.The sensor is constructed using a single mode fiber(SMF)-no-core fiber-double-C fiber(DCF)-NCF-SMF structure,with the DCF prepared by etching the dual side-hole fiber with HF acid.The DCF’s large-size exposed microfluidic channels solve the previous microstructured optical fiber’s challenging liquid filling and replacement problems.Theoretical simulations and experiments demonstrate that the sensor is suitable for high-sensitivity salinity measurement.The sensor exhibits a high salinity sensitivity of-2.26 nm/‰ in the salinity range of 10‰-50‰,as demonstrated by the experimental results.Additionally,the sensor exhibits some fascinating characteristics,including high repeatability,hysteresis,reversibility,and stability.

Model and Algorithm of Sequence-Based Quantum-Inspired Neural Networks

To enhance the approximation ability of traditional Artificial neural network(ANN), by introducing the quantum rotation gates and the multi-qubits controlled-NOT gates to ANN, we proposed a Sequence input-based quantum-inspired neural network(SIQNN).In our model, the hidden nodes are composed of some multi-qubits controlled-NOT gates, the inputs are described by the multi-dimensional discrete qubits sequences,the output nodes are the traditional neurons. The model parameters include the rotation angles of quantum rotation gates in hide layer and the weights in output layer.The learning algorithms were derived by employing the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Simulation results of predicting the runoff of the Hongjiadu Reservoir show that,the SIQNN is obviously superior to the ANN.

Cavefish as biological models in the laboratory and in the wild

Cavefish have advanced to the forefront as excellent models for laboratory studies in developmental and evolutionary biology.The iconic Mexican characid,Astyanax mexicanus,which consists of a surface-dwelling morph and about 30 interfertile cave-dwelling morphs,has become a major contributor to behavior,sensory biology,trait evolution,and biomedicine(Jeffery,2020).There are about 200 scientifically-described cavefish species distributed in karst areas on most continents(Proudlove,2015).Similar to A.mexicanus,a small subset of other cavefish taxa coupled with related surface-dwelling species are now serving as additional laboratory models to address a variety of important biological problems.A prime example is the cyprinid genus Sinocycloceilus,which contains 75 closely related surface and cave species endemic to the karst massifs of southwestern China(Jiang et al.,2019,2023;Ma et al.,2019).Comparative studies of Chinese and Mexican cavefish can be used to address a host of questions concerning the convergence and divergence of cave related traits.In the future,other Chinese cavefish species,such as the cave loach,as well as the more recently discovered European cavefishes,are likely to join the current group of excellent laboratory models.This special issue of Zoological Research presents the results of current research on these diverse cavefish species.In addition to recent research using cavefish models in laboratory studies,this issue also covers new research on cavefish in the wild.

Status of Serum Uric Acid and Hyperuricemia among Adults in China:China Nutrition and Health Surveillance(2015)

Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the serum uric acid levels and the prevalence of hyperuricemia among Chinese adults in 2015 and compare the differences between urban and rural areas,as well as the differences between eastern,central,and western regions.Methods A national representative sample of 180,208 participants were included using a stratified,multistage,and random sampling method.The demographic characteristics and blood samples were collected to determine the serum uric acid levels and prevalence of hyperuricemia among subgroups using complicated sampling weight.A t-test or ANOVA was used for normally-distributed data.The Kruskal-Wallis rank test was used for skewed-distributed data.The Mantel-Haenszel chi-square test was used to compare the difference in categorical variables.Results The weighted mean uric acid level in Chinese adults was 310.4μmol/L(317.5μmol/L in urban areas and 302.9μmol/L in rural areas).The weighted average values of uric acid in eastern,central,and western China were 315.5μmol/L,303.5μmol/L,and 310.4μmol/L,respectively.The weighted prevalence of hyperuricemia in Chinese adults was 14.6%,with a prevalence of 16.5%in urban areas and12.5%in rural areas.The weighted prevalence of hyperuricemia in eastern,central,and western China was 16.0%,12.5%,and 14.8%,respectively.Conclusion The uric acid level in Chinese adults is relatively high.Effective actions are warranted to improve this metabolic abnormality.

To the Editor:Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),a large number of healthcare workers(HCWs)volunteered to leave their familiar working and living environments to travel to Hubei province to undertake emergency response work.For most medical workers who traveled to Hubei province,this was their first time participating in such a crisis situation.Previous studies have reported that HCWs face a double blow of high-intensity work and high psychological pressure,making them particularly prone to mental health difficulties.

Adenovirus Mediated BIMS Transfer Induces Growth Supression and Apoptosis in Raji Lymphoma Cells

Objective To transfer pro-apoptotic BIM directly into tumor cells bypass the complicated biologica processes of BIM activation so as to reverse the chemoresistance of cancer cells. Methods BIMS was specifically amplified from HL-60 cells by RT-PCR, confirmed to be correct by sequencing and cloned into shuttle vector pAdTrack-CMV carrying a green fluorescence protein gene to generate a recombinant plasmid pAdTrack-CMV-BIMS. This plasmid and adenovirus backbone plasmid pAdEasy-1 were linearized and electroporated into E.coli BJ5183 host bacteria to mediate homologous recombination. The positive clone was identified by restrict endonuclease digestion. The recombinant pAdEasy-CMV-BIMS was transferred into HEK293 cells for packaging and amplification. The successful construction of recombinant human BIMS adenovirus （Ad-BIMS） was demonstrated by Western blot. To test whether Ad-BIMS has the capability of inducing apoptosis of tumor cells, Ad-BIMS was used to infect GC resistant Burkitt lymphoma Raji cells. Results After infected for 2-5 days, BIMS expression in Raji cells was detected by RT-PCR and Western blot. The significant growth retardation and apoptosis of Raji cells were also observed by MTI- and flow cytometry. Conclusion These results indicated that BIMS might be a potential candidate of gene therapy for chemoresistant tumor cells.
