Cavefish have advanced to the forefront as excellent models for laboratory studies in developmental and evolutionary *** iconic Mexican characid,Astyanax mexicanus,which consists of a surface-dwelling morph and about 30 interfertile cave-dwelling morphs,has become a major contributor to behavior,sensory biology,trait evolution,and biomedicine(Jeffery,2020).There are about 200 scientifically-described cavefish species distributed in karst areas on most continents(Proudlove,2015).Similar to ***,a small subset of other cavefish taxa coupled with related surface-dwelling species are now serving as additional laboratory models to address a variety of important biological problems.A prime example is the cyprinid genus Sinocycloceilus,which contains 75 closely related surface and cave species endemic to the karst massifs of southwestern China(Jiang et al.,2019,2023;Ma et al.,2019).Comparative studies of Chinese and Mexican cavefish can be used to address a host of questions concerning the convergence and divergence of cave related *** the future,other Chinese cavefish species,such as the cave loach,as well as the more recently discovered European cavefishes,are likely to join the current group of excellent laboratory *** special issue of Zoological Research presents the results of current research on these diverse cavefish *** addition to recent research using cavefish models in laboratory studies,this issue also covers new research on cavefish in the wild.

During revision of the genus Microphysogobio Mori,1934,we discovered a new species of huigobio from the yangtze River Basin in *** new species,named huigobio heterocheilus ***.,can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following characters:medial pad on lower lip not visible;ventral region scaleless before pelvic-fin insertion;lateral-line scales 39-40;caudal peduncle depth 49.2%-59.1%of length;barbel length 6.6%-10.7%of head length;black blotch between anterior margin of eye and upper *** the K2P model and cytochrome b(cyt b)sequences,interspecific genetic distances between the new species and huigobio exilicauda Jiang&Zhang,2013 and huigobio chenhsienensis Fang,1938 were 13.2%and 15.1%,*** new species is known from the upper reaches of the Xiangjiang River in the middle yangtze River Basin.A diagnostic key for species of huigobio Fang,1938 is provided.

Dear Editor,Cytidine analogs,such as decitabine(DAC)and cytarabine(ara-C),have been widely used in the clinical treatment for several cancer types,including myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia(AML;Appelbaum et al.1999;Saba 2007).However,drug resistance causing treatment failure and disease relapse is an unresolved problem to *** cancer cells rely on the salvage enzymes cytidine deaminase(CDA)and dCMP deaminase(DCTD)to inactivate these cytidine derivative drugs by deamination(Jamieson et al.1987;Ebrahem et al.2012).It is imperative to develop new categories of chemotherapeutic nucleosides to overcome the drug resistance caused by such increased cellular deamination activity.

Triplophysa xuanweiensis ***.,a new blind loach species from the family Nemacheilidae,is described based on specimens collected from a subterranean river in Xuanwei City,Yunnan Province,*** new species can be distinguished from all known congeners by a combination of the following characters:eyes absent,dorsal-fin origin anterior to pelvic-fin origin,tip of pelvic fin reaching anus,dorsal fin with 7-8 branched rays,caudal fin forked with 16-18 branched rays,body scaleless and colorless,lateral line complete,and posterior chamber of air bladder well developed and connected to anterior chamber by long,slender tube.

This work reveals the significant effects of cobalt(Co)on the microstructure and impact toughness of as-quenched highstrength steels by experimental characterizations and thermo-kinetic *** results show that the Co-bearing steel exhibits finer blocks and a lower ductile-brittle transition temperature than the steel without ***,the Co-bearing steel reveals higher transformation rates at the intermediate stage with bainite volume fraction ranging from around 0.1 to *** improved impact toughness of the Co-bearing steel results from the higher dense block boundaries dominated by the V1/V2 variant ***,the addition of Co induces a larger transformation driving force and a lower bainite start temperature(BS),thereby contributing to the refinement of blocks and the increase of the V1/V2 variant *** findings would be instructive for the composition,microstructure design,and property optimization of high-strength steels.

Background, Motivation and Objective With the rapid development of micro/nano technologies, precision positioning is becoming increasingly important in many scientific devices. The generic requirement with these devices is the realization of an accurate long-range motion for the mechanical systems. Piezoelectric actuators are widely used in miniature devices to realize an extremely accurate motion because of their small size, high resolution, large force, and rapid response. However, piezoelectric elements themselves have an inherent defect of limited motion stroke, typically below millimeters. Piezoelectric motors effectively alleviate the contradiction between large stroke and high precision, which keep the nanometer level displacement resolution and extend the stroke to be theoretically infinite. Among them, piezoelectric inertia drive motors(PIDMs) are preferred to be used for cross-scale micro precision positioning system, which has outstanding advantages of simple structure, easy control, and high resolution. Although PIDMs have been investigated for many years, their real dynamic responses are still not totally clear. The objective of this paper is to investigate the typical kinematics models of PIDMs and the influence of friction models on dynamic responses of PIDMs. Statement of Contribution/Methods In this paper, dynamic responses of the PIDMs are studied theoretically and numerically. Working principles and kinematics models of two typical kinds of PIDMs are introduced. Motion characteristics of the PIDMs are analyzed numerically by simulation software MATLAB/Simulink. Dynamic responses of the PIDMs with different friction models are compared and discussed. Results In the numerical simulation, two different simplified friction models for the kinematics models of PIDMs are selected. Although the nickel-based catalyst is able toexhibit comparative catalytic activity to noble metal formethyl acrylate hydrogenation,it requires strict reactioncondition,which can be improved by regulation ofcoordination *** this study,we constructed akind of Ni single-atom coordinated with N and S(Ni-NSC)through the pyrolysis of organic Ni-based precursors at600℃.The existence and fine structure of Ni single-atom were confirmed by the spherical electron microscopicobservation in combination with the X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)*** addition,the catalytichydrogenation assessment suggested that the as-prepared Ni-NSC catalyst exhibited higher activity and stability than theNi/NSC supported catalyst prepared by incipient wetness impregnation *** remarkable catalytic activity was dueto the high dispersion and density of Ni single-atom and weak adsorption energy of intermediates on these Ni sites.
