The activities of protactinium were produced by the multi-nucleontransfer reactions in bombardment of the natural uranium with 60 MeV/nucleon 1sOions. A simple, relatively fast radiochemical procedure was used for extraction sep-aration of protactinium from the uranium and a variety of reaction products using1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone and tri-iso-octylamine as extractants. Theγ ray spectrum of the separated protactinium fractions showed that the protactiniumcould be separated from all of the main impurity elements. The decontaminationfactors of the uranium and the main reaction products produced in the reaction aregiven.

Unreported tantalum isomer 186mTa has been produced through the reaction 186W(n,p) by irradiation of natW with 14 MeV neutrons. The activity of 186mTa and 186Ta was measured using HPGe detectors and several X-γ as well as γ-γ coincidence arrangements. The 186mTa has been identified by means of measuring known γ rays from 186Ta β-decay. The half-life of 186mTa has been determined to be (1.5±0.1) min.

A radiochemical procedure used to separate and purify trace concentration thorium produced in heavy ion reaction with uranium targets is presented. The procedure can rapidly yield thorium fraction suitable for gamma-ray spectroscopy studies. The resultant gamma-ray spectra showed that Th was isolated from a large number of elements produced in the reaction, and there were only a few contaminating activities of isotopes of Sc, Cd, In, etc. The decontamination factors for the main reaction products are given.

By bombarding the natural thorium targets with 14 MeVneutrons,^(229)Ra was produced through the reaction ^(232)Th(n,α)^(229)*** radium activities were separated from the irradiated targets by coprecipitation with BaC_(12).A total of 18 weak γ rays with energies of 14.5,15.6,18.8,21.8,22.5,44.0,47.5,55.0,63.0,69.6,93.6,94.1,98.5,102.2,104.5,106.1,161.1,and 171.5keV,which could be assigned to the decay of ^(229)Ra,has been observed in the isolated radium fractions employing high-resolution HPGe detectors and γ(x)-γ coincidence methods.A decay scheme of ^(229)Ra based on these observations has been proposed.

The new neutron-rich isotope 186Hf has been produced through a multinucleon transfer reaction by irradiation of natural tungsten targets with 60MeV/u ^(18)O *** ^(186)Hf activities were separated radiochemically from the tungsten and reaction product *** γ-ray singles spectra were measured with a high resolution HPGe *** new isotope ^(186)Hf was identified based on the growth and decay of 737.5 keV γ rays from the β^(-) decay of its daughter ^(186)*** half-life has been determined to be 2.6±1.2 min.

The paper describes the solvent extraction of trace thorium from hydrochloric acid media by1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone (PMBP) using a radioactive tracer technique. The percent extraction ofthorium was studied as a function of acidity, PMBP concentration and equilibrium time. The back-extraction behaviorof thorium from the organic phase was also tested. Separation of thorium was performed from fission products pro-duced in 14 MeV neutron bombardment of natural uranium by employing the PMBP extraction procedure. Thegamma-ray spectra of the separated thorium fractions show that thorium can be separated from most of fission prod-ucts and a large amount of uranium.

Radioisotope of^(230)Pa was synthesized by proton irradiation of ThO_(2) powder targets with thickness of about 2g/cm^(2).Pure^(230)Pa was extracted and deep purified from thorium and fission products by the radiochemical ***^(230)Pa→^(230)U sources were prepared for measuring the cluster decay of^(230)*** cases of decay via heavy ion emission,which were most probably for the neon decays of^(230)U,were detected by using solid-state track registration *** preliminary branching ratio relative to a-decay comes out to be(1.3±0.8)10^(-14).

利用60 MeV/u18O离子束轰击天然铀靶,经多核子转移反应生成重丰中子核素239Pa。用放射化学方法从被照射的靶中分离出镤。借助于239Pa和它的子体239U的γ射线观测和分析,鉴别了239Pa,测得239Pa的半衰期为(106±30)min。长寿命同位素,如232Th和238U,可给出一个测定核合成持续时间的可能性,而中等寿命同位素,如235U,则可给出有关产生函数时间历史的信息。总地说来,通过232Th/238U2、35U/238U或244Pu/238U的比率,用公式NA(Δ)/NB(Δ)=(PA/PB)f(λA,λB,S0,λR,Δ)便可推导出宇宙年龄。由239Pa的衰变途径,可简单叙述239Pa的异常长的半衰期对于宇宙年龄估计的影响。
