Inflammatory cytokine storms can trigger disease exacerbation and even death and have reached a consensus in the clinical treatment of acute organ ***,the existing strategies remain a great challenge to efficiently suppress inflammatory cytokine storms for promoting organ repair and ***,fully human umbilical cord(UC)-derived adhesive materials(UCAM)that integrate decellularized extracellular matrix(ECM)nanofiber hydrogel and homologous mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are demonstrated to greatly suppress inflammatory cytokine storms,demonstrating high efficacy in treating acute liver failure(ALF)in rats with 90%*** UC-derived adhesive materials have the capacity to secrete a significant quantity of cytokines by MSCs to recruit activated immune cells to migrate into their ECM nanofiber networks,segregating them away from the infection area and thereby greatly suppressing the inflammatory cytokine *** expected,the UC-derived adhesive materials can significantly promote hepatocyte proliferation to achieve functional recovery and regeneration of the liver,significantly improving the survival rate in *** fully human UC-derived adhesive materials provide a new avenue in suppressing inflammatory cytokine storms for promoting organ regeneration that would be really utility in clinical organ transplantation-related treatment.

Combination of p-Coumaric acid and lactoferrin ameliorates cognitive deficits through suppressing C/EBPβ/AEP pathway and modulating intestinal flora in APP/PS1 mice

Alzheimer's disease （AD） has become an important public health issue worldwide. P-Coumaric acid （CA） and lactoferrin （Lf） possessed antioxidant， anti-inflammatory， and anti-AD activities. Herein， we hypothesized that a combination treatment of CA and Lf would synergistically improve AD symptoms and studied its mechanisms. Twelve-week-old APP/PS1 mice were treated with CA， Lf， or both CA and Lf for 8 weeks. Results showed that individual and combined treatments could ameliorate cognitive deficits to varying degrees， with stronger effects for combined intervention than for CA or Lf alone. Specifically， combined treatment was most effective in improving nesting ability and reducing Aβ1-42deposition in mice. Moreover， combined treatment was more effective in suppressing APP， BACE1， and inflammation; it inhibited the CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein （C/EBPβ）/asparagine endopeptidase （AEP） signaling pathway in the hippocampus and colon and upregulated the expression of tight junction protein ZO-1 in the colon; it also decreased the F/B ratio at the phylum level and increased the relative abundance of Prevotellaceae， Lachnospira， and Eubacterium at the genus level. Overall， the combination of CA and Lf may ameliorate cognitive deficits in APP/PS1 mice by improving inflammation and inhibiting the C/EBPβ/AEP signaling pathway via modulating gut microbiome.

A pore-confined strategy for synthesizing CoFe nanoparticles in mesoporous biocarbon matrix as advanced bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst for zinc-air battery

Designing rational transition-metal/carbon composites with highly dispersed and firmly anchored nanoparticles（NPs） to prevent agglomeration and shedding is crucial for realizing excellent electrocatalytic ***,a biomass pore-confined strategy based on mesoporous willow catkin is explored to obtain uniformly dispersed CoFe NPs in N-doped carbon nanotubes and hollow carbon fibers（CoFe@N-CNTs/HCFs）.The resultant catalyst exhibits enhanced electrocatalytic performance,which affords a half-wave potential of 0.86 V（***） with a limited current density of 6.0 mA·cm-2for oxygen reduction reaction and potential of 1.67 V（***） at 10 mA·cm-2in 0.1 M KOH for oxygen evolution *** applied to rechargeable zinc-air batteries,a maximum power density of 340 mW·cm-2and long-term cyclic durability over 800 h are *** superior bifunctional electrocatalytic activities are ascribed to the biocarbon matrix with abundant mesopores and unobstructed hollow channels,CoFe NPs with high dispersion and controllable nanoscale and the hybrid composite with optimized electronic *** work presents an effective approach for constraining the size and dispersion of NPs in a low-cost biocarbon substrate,offering valuable insights for designing advanced oxygen electrocatalysts.

Objective: To explore the demographic and disease-related factors associated with acupuncture response in patients with chronic tension-type headache(CTTH). Methods: Using data from the randomized clinical trial(218 cases) consisting of 4 weeks of baseline assessment, 8 weeks of treatment, and 24 weeks of follow-up, participants were regrouped into responders(at least a 50% reduction in monthly headache days at week 16 compared with baseline) and non-responders. Twenty-three demographic and disease-related factors associated with acupuncture response in 183 participants were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression. Results: One hundred and nineteen(65.0%) participants were classified as responders. Four factors were significantly independently associated with acupuncture response, including treatment assignment, headache intensity at baseline, and 2 domains [general health(GH) and social functioning(SF)] from the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey quality of life questionnaire. Treatment assignment was associated with nonresponse: participants receiving true acupuncture were 3-time more likely to achieve a CTTH response than those receiving superficial acupuncture [odds ratio(OR) 0.322, 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.162 to 0.625, P=0.001]. Compared with patients with mild-intensity headache, patients with moderate-intensity headache were twice as likely to respond to acupuncture(OR 2.001, 95% CI 1.020 to 4.011, P=0.046). The likelihood of non-response increased by 4.5% with each unit increase in the GH grade(OR 0.955, 95% CI 0.917 to 0.993, P=0.024) while decreased by 3.8% with each unit increase in the SF grade(OR 1.038, 95% CI 1.009 to 1.069, P=0.011). Conclusions: Greater headache intensity, lower GH score, and higher SF score were associated with better acupuncture responses in CTTH patients. These 3 factors require independent validation as predictors of acupuncture effectiveness in CTTH.

Broadband third-order optical nonlinearities of layered franckeite towards mid-infrared regime

Medium-energy electron spectrometers on Macao Science Satellite-1

The Macao Science Satellite-1 is a two-satellite constellation specifically designed to study the geomagnetic field and particle radiation environment in low Earth orbit, particularly in the South Atlantic Anomaly region, with a low inclination orbit. Each of the two MSS-1 satellites carries a medium-energy electron spectrometer(MES). The MES sensor heads are based on pinhole imaging technology, which can simultaneously measure 50-600 keV electrons incident from nine directions with a field of view(FOV) of 180° × 30°. The two MESs can realize the pitch angle coverage of medium energy electrons at most positions in the orbit. The MSS-1 A/B MESs can realize direct observation of precipitating electrons and electrons near their loss cones. It can help to study the electron generation mechanism in the inner radiation belt and quantify the precipitation of magnetospheric energetic electrons. Combined with the geomagnetic index, solar wind parameters, interplanetary magnetic field conditions, etc.,it can also help to build a dynamic evolution model of energetic electrons in the near-Earth space, to realize the early warning and prediction of space weather based on the observation data, which can provide safety for spacecraft and astronauts in the nearEarth space.
