Widespread and active piezotolerant microorganisms mediate phenolic compound degradation under high hydrostatic pressure in hadal trenches

Phenolic compounds,as well as other aromatic compounds,have been reported to be abundant in hadal *** high-throughput sequencing studies have hinted at the potential of hadal microbes to degrade these compounds,direct microbiological,genetic and biochemical evidence under in situ pressures remain ***,a microbial consortium and a pure culture of Pseudomonas,newly isolated from Mariana Trench sediments,efficiently degraded phenol under pressures up to 70 and 60 MPa,respectively,with concomitant increase in *** analyzing a high-pressure(70 MPa)culture metatranscriptome,not only was the entire range of metabolic processes under high pressure generated,but also genes encod-ing complete phenol degradation via ortho-and meta-cleavage pathways were *** isolate of Pseudomonas also contained genes encoding the complete degradation *** transcribed genes(dmpKLMNOP_(sed))were functionally identified to encode a multicomponent hydroxylase catalyzing the hydroxylation of phenol and its methylated derivatives by heterogeneous *** addition,key catabolic genes identified in the metatranscriptome of the high-pressure cultures and genomes of bacterial isolates were found to be all widely distributed in 22 published hadal microbial *** microbiological,genetic,bioinformatics,and biochemical levels,this study found that microorganisms widely found in hadal trenches were able to effectively drive phenolic compound degradation under high hydrostatic *** information will bridge a knowledge gap concerning the microbial aromatics degradation within hadal trenches.

A Possible X-ray Quasi-periodic Oscillation in the Narrow-line Seyfert 1 Galaxy Mrk 142

A possible quasi-periodic oscillation(QPO) at frequency 7.045 × 10^(-5) Hz is found in the narrow-line Seyfert 1galaxy Mrk 142 in the data of XMM-Newton collected on 2020 April *** find that the QPO signal is statistically significantly larger than the 5σ level and highly coherent with quality factor Q > 5 at the 0.3–10 keV band by using the method of the Lomb–Scargle Periodogram,the Weighted Wavelet Z-transform and the *** analyze the data in 0.3–0.6 keV,0.6–1 keV,1–3 keV and 3–10 keV energy bands,and find obvious QPO signals at 0.3–0.6 keV and 1–3 keV *** then analyze the time-average spectra and time variability at the QPO frequency of 7.045 × 10^(-5) Hz,and use a model to fit *** find that the QPO signal mainly comes from the X-ray hot corona.

A Novel Analysis Approach of Uniform Persistence for an Epidemic Model with Quarantine and Standard Incidence Rate

Carbon dots-derived three-dimensional-ordered macroporous host with high penetrability and catalytic activity for LSBs under lean electrolyte

The practical energy density of lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)is seriously limited by the high electrolyte-to-sulfur ratios(E/S).The E/S can be reduced by employing hosts with easy-to-infiltrate structure that ensures the uniform distribution of a lean electrolyte and high catalytic activity that can suppress"shuttle effect"via accelerating the slow conversion of soluble poly sulfides to insoluble *** the easy-to-infiltrate structures,the three-dimensional-ordered macroporous(3DOM)structure is easier to scale preparation and more suitable for the existing industrial ***,it is difficult to obtain the 3DOM with(1)high penetrability due to the high viscosity of frequently-used organic polymer precursors and(2)high catalytic activity due to the low confinement effect,meaning that uniformly dispersed small-sized catalytic materials are difficult to load on ***,using carbon dots(CDs)with both organic and inorganic properties as a precursor and aggregation limiting agent,a 3DOM host with high penetrability and homodispersed Ni particles of small sizes(Ni-CDs-3DOM)was *** this host:(1)CDs precursor with suitable viscosity can improve the penetrability.(2)CDs can effectively inhibit the agglomeration of Ni particles.(3)Uniformly dispersed small-size Ni particles offer high-efficiency catalytic activity toward sulfur ***,the Ni-CDs-3DOM/sulfur cathode exhibits high sulfur utilization and stable cycling performance even under high sulfur loading(5.5 mg·cm^(-2))and low E/S(6.5μl·mg^(-1)).This work indicates the usefulness of CDs in constructing hosts for LSBs with high energy density.

Monoterpenes are organic compounds which have been studied for their medicinal ***,the association between monoterpene exposure and metabolic parameters in humans is *** investigated the connection between three specific monoterpenes(α-pinene,β-pinene,and limonene),glucose homeostasis biomarkers,lipid profiles,and metabolic syndrome(MS)in 1627 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)2013–*** found serum levels ofα-pinene andβ-pinene were positively associated with fasting glucose,total cholesterol,triglyceride,and apolipoprotein *** addition,increased levels of limonene andΣmonoterpene(sum of three monoterpene chemicals)were linked to higher insulin,β-cell function,total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),triglycerides,and apolipoprotein *** with all three monoterpenes above the 50th percentile had notably higher values for total cholesterol and triglycerides compared to those with all three monoterpenes below the 50th percentile(P for trendaist circumference,low HDL-C,hypertriglyceridemia,and higher blood pressure according to MS *** conclusion,serum monoterpenes levels were linked to glucose regulation,lipid profiles,and indicators of *** studies are necessary to clarify the potential causal relationships.

DEM analysis of the influence of stirrer design on die filling with forced powder feeding

Die filling is a critical stage during powder compaction,which can significantly affect the product quality and *** this paper,a forced feeder is introduced attempting to improve the filling performance of a lab-scale die filling *** die filling process is analysed with a graphics processing units(GPU)enhanced discrete element method(DEM).Various stirrer designs are assessed for a wide range of process settings(i.e.,stirrer speed,filling speed)to explore their influence on the die filling performance of free-flowing *** results show that die filing with the novel helical-ribbon(i.e.,type D)stirrer design exhibits the highest filling ratio,implying that it is the most robust stirrer design for the feeder configuration ***,die filling performance with the type D stirrer design is a function of the stirrer speed and the filling speed.A positive variation of filling ratio(ηf>0%)can be ensured over the whole range of filling speed by adjusting the stirrer speed(i.e.,increasing the stirrer speed).The approach used in this study can not only help understand how the stirrer design affects the die filling performance but also guide the optimization of feeder system and process settings.

Heavy-atom engineered hypoxia-responsive probes for precisive photoacoustic imaging and cancer therapy

Photoacoustic agents combining photodynamic therapy(PDT) and photothermal therapy(PTT) functions have emerged as potent theranostic agents for combating cancer. The molecular approaches for enhancing the near-infrared(NIR)-absorption and maximizing non-radiative energy transfer are essential for effective photoacoustic imaging(Pai) and therapy applications. In addition, such molecules with high specificity and affinity to cancer cells are urgently needed, which would further decrease the side effect during treatments. In this study, we applied a heavy-atom engineering strategy and introduced p-aminophenol,-thio, and-seleno moieties into NIR heptamethine cyanine(Cy7) skeleton(Cy7-X-NH_(2), X = O, S, Se) to significantly increase photothermal conversion efficiency for PTT and promote intersystem crossing for ***, we designed a series of nitroreductase(NTR)-activated photoacoustic probes(Cy7-X-NO_(2),X = O, S, Se), and target hypoxic tumors with NTR overexpression. Our prostate cancer targeting probe,Cy7-Se-NO_(2)-KUE, exhibited specific tumor photoacoustic signals and effective tumor killing through outstanding synergistic PTT/PDT in vivo. These findings highlighted a versatile strategy for cancer photoacoustic diagnosis and enhanced phototherapy.

Recent progress in single crystal perovskite X-ray detectors

Perovskites have attracted extensive attention as radiation detection material due to their long carrier diffusion length and lifetime, high absorption coefficient, and flexible manufacturing process. Compared with polycrystalline structures, single crystal perovskites improve the performance of optoelectronic devices due to their low defect state density, better photoelectric characteristics, and chemical ***, we review the recent progress of single crystal perovskite X-ray detectors. First, we briefly introduced the basic concepts, detection mechanisms, figure of merits of perovskite X-ray detectors, and the preparation methods of single crystal perovskites. Then, we summarized the significant advancements in single crystal perovskite X-ray detectors in recent times. Finally, we discussed the critical challenges and some practicable solutions for developing high-performance X-ray detectors.

Attitude Tracking Control for Rigid Spacecraft with Arbitrary Convergence Time

In this paper, attitude tracking control with arbitrary convergence time for rigid spacecraft is considered. First, a novel time-varying sliding function is proposed to achieve free-will arbitrary time convergence when the system states reside on the sliding surface. With such a sliding function, an attitude tracking controller is designed to guarantee that the states of the closed-loop system converge to the sliding surface within a predetermined time in the presence of external disturbances. The free-will arbitrary time convergences of the closed-loop system and sliding function are illustrated by numerical simulations.
