Preparation of reverse osmosis membrane with high permselectivity and anti-biofouling properties for desalination

High performance is essential for the polyamide(pa)reverse osmosis(RO)membranes during the desalination ***,RO membranes with high permselectivity and anti-biofouling properties were fabricated by nanoparticles incorporation and anti-biofouling ***(HT)incorporation was performed with a dual role,enhancing water flux and acting as grafting *** HT incorporation increased the water flux without sacrificing the salt rejection,compensating for the loss caused by the following grafting *** exposed surface of HT acted as grafting sites for anti-biofouling agent dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride(DMOTpaC).The combination of HT incorporation and DMOTpaC grafting endowed RO membranes with high permselectivity and anti-biofouling *** water flux of the modified membrane pa-HT-0.06 was 49.8 L/m^(2)·h,which was 16.4%higher than that of the pristine *** salt rejection of pa-HT-0.06 was 99.1%,which was comparable to that of the pristine *** to the fouling of negatively charged lysozyme,the modified membrane’s water flux recovery was superior to that of the pristine membrane(e.g.86.8%of pa-HT-0.06 compared to 78.2%of pa-pristine).The sterilization rates of pa-HT-0.06 for *** and *** were 97.3%and 98.7%,much higher than those of the pristine membrane(24.0%for *** and 26.7%for ***).

Does selective logging change ground-dwelling beetle assemblages in a subtropical broad-leafed forest of China？

Selective logging with natural regeneration is advocated as a near-to-nature strategy and has been implemented in many forested systems during the last decades. However, the efficiency of such practices for the maintenance of forest species are poorly understood. We compared the species richness, abundance and composition of ground- dwelling beetles between selectively logged and unlogged forests to evaluate the possible effects of selective logging in a subtropical broad-leafed forest in southeastern China. Us- ing pitfall traps, beetles were sampled in two naturally regenerating stands after clearcuts （ca. 50 years old, stem-exclusion stage： selectively logged 20 years ago） and two mature stands （〉 80 years old, understory re-initiation stage： selectively logged 50 years ago） during 2009 and 2010. Overall, selective logging had no significant effects on total beetle richness and abundance, but saproxylie species group and some abundant forest species significantly decreased in abundance in selectively logged plots compared with unlogged plots in mature stands. Beetle assemblages showed significant differences between selec- tively logged and unlogged plots in mature stands. Some environmental characteristics associated with selective logging （e.g., logging strategy, stand age, and cover of shrub and moss layers） were the most important variables explaining beetle assemblage structure. Our results conclude that selective logging has no significant impacts on overall richness and abundance of ground-dwelling beetles. However, the negative effects of selective logging on saproxylic species group and some unlogged forest specialists highlight the need for large intact forested areas for sustaining the existence of forest specialist beetles.

BACKGROUND: The trauma caused by pancreatoduode- nectomy for periampullary carcinoma of vater is often se- vere and extensive. The purpose of this study was to eva- luate the effect of extended local resection in the treatment of periampullary carcinoma of vater. METHODS: The extra-hepaticobiliary tract, the confluence of the pancreatic and biliary duct, vater ampulla and duo- denal papilla were resected en bloc in 8 patients with peri- ampullary carcinoma from 1995 to 1998. RESULTS: One patient died perioperatively. Duodenal ob- struction developed postoperatively in one of 7 survived pa- tients and was relieved after reoperation. All the 7 patients were followed up for more than 6 months without recur- rence. CONCLUSION: Extended local resection fulfils the task of radical treatment of periampullary malignancy.

Both structure and interface engineering are highly effective strategies for enhancing the catalytic activity and selectivity of precious metal *** this work,we develop a facile pyrolysis strategy to synthesize the high-quality holey platinum nanotubes(Pt-H-NTs)using nanorods-like Pt^(Ⅱ)-phenanthroline(PT)coordination compound as self-template and self-reduction ***,an up-bottom strategy is used to further synthesize polyallylamine(pa)modified Pt-H-NTs(Pt-HNTs@pa).pa modification sharply promotes the catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs for the formic acid electrooxidation reaction(FAEOR)by the direct reaction ***,pa modification also elevates the catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)by the proton enrichment at electrolyte/electrode *** from the high catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs@pa for both FAEOR and HER,a two-electrode FAEOR boosted water electrolysis system is fabricated by using Pt-H-NTs@pa as bifunctio nal *** FAEOR boosted water electrolysis system only requires the operational voltage of 0.47 V to achieve the high-purity hydrogen production,showing an energy-saving hydrogen production strategy compared to traditional water electrolysis system.

Impact of treatment modalities on patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation:Preliminary experience

Background:Post-liver transplantation(LT)hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)recurrence still occurs in approximately 20%of patients and drastically affects their *** study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of various treatments for recurrent HCC after LT in a Chinese ***:A total of 64 HCC patients with tumor recurrence after LT were enrolled in this *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors affecting post-recurrence ***:Of the 64 patients with recurrent HCC after LT,those who received radical resection followed by nonsurgical therapy had a median overall survival(OS)of 20.9 months after HCC recurrence,significantly superior to patients who received only nonsurgical therapy(9.4 months)or best supportive care(2.4 months).The one-and two-year OS following recurrence was favorable for patients receiving radical resection followed by nonsurgical therapy(93.8%,52.6%),poor for patients receiving only nonsurgical therapy(30.8%,10.8%),and dismal for patients receiving best supportive care(0%,0%;overall Ppatients treated with lenvatinib was 19.5 months,far surpassing the patients that discontinued sorafenib or were treated with regorafenib after sorafenib failure(12 months,Ppared with tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive therapy,OS was significantly increased with sirolimus-based therapy at one and two years after HCC recurrence(P=0.035).Multivariate analysis showed radical resection combined with nonsurgical therapy for recurrent HCC and sorafenib-lenvatinib sequential therapy were independent favorable factors for post-recurrence ***:Aggressive surgical intervention in well-selected patients significantly improves OS after recurrence.A multidisciplinary treatment approach is required to slow down disease progression for patients with unresectable recurrent HCC.

Glioma is a common tumor originating in the brain that has a high mortality ***(TMZ)is the first-line treatment for high-grade ***,a large pro-portion of gliomas are resistant to TMZ,posing a great challenge to their *** the study,the specific functions and mechanism(s)by which cortistatin(CORT)regulates TMZ resis-tance and glioma progression were *** decreased expression of CoRT was detected in glioma tissues,and highly expressed CORT was associated with a better survival rate in pa-tients with *** overexpression notably decreased the capacity of glioma cells to pro-liferate and migrate in vitro and to form tumors in *** overexpression also markedly suppressed the viability and enhanced the apoptosis of TMZ-resistant U251 cells by regulating MGMT,p21,and Puma ***,CORT overexpression reduced the resistance of gliomas to TMZ in *** expression Was negatively correlated with MGMT expression in both glioma tissues and cells,and it was found that CORT inhibited NF-kB pathway activation in glioma cells,thereby inhibiting MGMT *** conclusion,CORT regulates glioma cell growth,migration,apoptosis,and TMZ resistance by weakening the activity of NF-kB/p65 and thereby regulating MGMT *** CORT/NF-kB/MGMT axis might be regarded as a molecular mechanism contributing to the resistance of glioma to *** data also suggest that CORT regulates the viability and metastatic potential of glioma cells,independent of its effects on TMZ resistance,providing evidence of novel therapeutic targets for glioma that should be evaluated infurther studies.

16个苹果品种非浓缩还原汁的理化特征分析

【目的】通过研究16种苹果非浓缩还原汁(not from concentrate,NFC)果汁的8项理化指标,利用相关性分析明确指标间的关系,以简化NFC果汁品质的评价指标。此外,利用多元数据处理对不同品种苹果NFC果汁进行归类,以找到NFC果汁生产中制汁和智能复配的替代品种,为NFC果汁产业发展提供理论参考。【方法】以16个苹果品种为试材,经榨汁、灭酶、巴杀、热灌装等单元操作制备NFC果汁。通过测定16种果汁的可溶性固形物含量、p H、可滴定酸含量、固酸比、表观黏度、浊度、总酚含量及色泽品质(L*、a*、b*、C*、h°)指标,采用单因素方差分析与相关性分析对测定结果进行显著性和相关性分析。此外,利用主成分分析(PCA)、线性判别分析(LDA)、聚类分析(CA)多元数据处理方法,对16种果汁的理化指标数据矩阵进行分析,获得16个苹果品种的综合品质分类。【结果】16种苹果汁的各项理化指标均存在显著差异,其中,‘新世界’的可溶性固形物含量和浊度最高,分别为15.7°Brix和3 720 NTU;‘澳洲青苹’的p H最低,为2.74;‘红玉’的可滴定酸含量最高,为9.6 g·L-1(苹果酸当量);‘秦艳’的固酸比最高,为39.24;‘元帅’‘恩派’‘桔苹’都表现出最高的表观黏度,均为3.75 m pa·s;‘富士’的总酚含量最高,为775.94 mg·L-1(没食子酸当量)。果汁p H与固酸比(R~2=0.844)、浊度与L*值(R~2=0.967)均呈极显著正相关关系(P<0.01),p H与可滴定酸含量(R~2=-0.896)、固酸比与可滴定酸含量(R~2=-0.918)均呈极显著负相关关系(P<0.01)。PCA、LDA和CA的分类结果完全一致,16个品种的NFC苹果汁可分为3大类,同一大类中各品种之间不同理化指标差异较小,品质、色泽十分接近,可作为NFC果汁生产和智能复配的可替代品种。【结论】可溶性固形物含量、可滴定酸含量、色值、表观黏度、总酚含量5项理化指标,可全面反映NFC果汁的品质。在果汁品质分类中,‘玉华早富’和‘乔纳金’归为一类,‘新世界’和‘秦冠’归为一类,‘新红星’‘富士’‘桔苹’‘自由’‘秦艳’‘澳洲青苹’、‘秋香’‘粉红女士’‘元帅’‘恩派’‘凉香’‘红玉’归为一类,同一类别中NFC果汁品质接近,可作为制汁和智能复配的替代品种。
