AIM To compare the expression level of Fas gene and Bcl-2 gene in gastric cancer cells SGC7901 and gastric cancer MDR (multidrug resistant) cells SGC7901/VCR, to transduce Fas cDNA and Bcl-2 antisense nucleic acid into SGC7901/VCR cells respectively, and to observe the expression of two genes in transfectants and non-transfectants as well as their drug *** Eukaryotic expression vector pBK-Fas cDNA and pDOR-anti Bcl-2 were constructed and transfected into SGC7901/VCR cells by lipofectamine, respectively. Northern blot and Western blot were used to detect the expression of mRNA and protein in SGC7901/VCR and SGC7901 cells and transfectants, and drug sensitivity of transfectants for VCR, CDDP and 5-FU was analyzed with MTT *** After gene transfection, 80 for Fas and 120 for antisense Bcl-2 drug-resistant clones were selected from 2×105 cells, transfection rate being 0.04% and 0.06%. Two clones of SGC7901 Fas/VCR cells and SGC7901 anti Bcl-2/VCR cells were randomly selected for further incubation. Hybridization results showed that the expression level of Fas mRNA and protein in SGC7901/VCR cells was much lower, but that of Bcl-2 mRNA and protein was higher than that in SGC7901 cells. The expression of Fas mRNA and protein in SGC7901 Fas/VCR cells was higher, and of Bcl-2 mRNA and protein was lower in SGC7901 anti Bcl-2/VCR cells than that in non-transfectants. MTT assay showed that transfectants were more sensitive to VCR, CDDP, 5-FU than *** Bcl-2 gene displayed high expression while Fas gene had low expression in drug resistant gastric cancer cells. Expression of Bcl-2 protein was effectively blocked in SGC7901 anti Bcl-2/VCR cells by gene transfection. In contrast, the expression of Fas mRNA and protein in SGC7901 Fas/VCR cells increased. Poly（p-phenylene）（PPP） films have been electrochemically deposited on mirrorlike stainless steel （SS） electrode surfaces by direct oxidation of benzene in boron trifluoride diethyl etherate （BFEE） solutions at a constant applied potential of 1.7 V （versus Ag/AgCl）. The chain conformations of as-grown PPP films have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that high synthesis temperature favors the formation of planar PPP, and the conformation of planar PPP can be changed into torsional PPP by cooling treatment.

For reasons of simplicity, the most commonly used hydrological models are based on the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number （SCS-CN） model, which is probably a good choice for the estimation of runoff on the Loess Plateau of China; however, the high spatial heterogeneity, mainly caused by a fragmented landform and variations in soil type, may limit its applicability to this region. Therefore, applicability of the SCS-CN model to a small watershed, Liudaogou on the plateau, was evaluated and the most appropriate initial abstraction ratio （I~/S） value in the model was quantified by the inverse method. The results showed that the standard SCS-CN model was applicable to the estimation of runoff in the Liudaogou watershed and the model performance was acceptable according to the values of relative error and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency. The most appropriate Ia/S value for the watershed was 0.22 because with this modified Ia/S value, the model performance was slightly improved. The model performance was not sensitive to the modification of the Ia/S value when one heavy rainfall event （50.1 mm） was not considered, which implied that the model, using a standard Ia/S value, can be recommended for the Liudaogou watershed because single rainfall events exceeding 50 mm seldom occurred in that region. The runoff amount predicted for the Liudaogou watershed by the SCS-CN model, using the modified Ia/S value, increased gradually with increasing rainfall when rainfall values were lower than 50 mm, whereas the predicted amount increased rapidly when the rainfall exceeded 50 mm. These findings may be helpful in solving the problem of serious soil and water loss on the Loess Plateau of China.

The formation process of solid electrolyte interphase（SEI） film on spinel LiMn2O4 electrode surface was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） during the initial storage in 1 mol/L LiPF6-EC：DMC：DEC electrolyte and in the subsequent first charge-discharge cycle. It has been demonstrated that the SEI film thickness increased with the increase of storage time and spontaneous reactions occurring between spinel LiMn2O4 electrode and electrolyte can be prevented by the SEI film. In the first charge-discharge cycle succeeding the storage, the electrolyte oxidation coupled with Li-ion insertion is evidenced as the main origin to increase the resistance of SEI film. The results also confirm that the variations of the charge transfer resistance（Rot） with the electrode potential（E） can be well described using a classical equation.

Background Chronic liver disease causes aberrant formation of fibrous tissue that impedes normal liver function, ultimately resulting in liver cirrhosis. Iron uptake can occur within the hepatic parenchyma or within the various nodules that form in a cirrhotic liver, termed siderotic nodules （SN）. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic performance of susceptibility weighted imaging （SWI） for detection of SN in patients with liver cirrhosis, and to evaluate the potential of SN numbers for assessing the degree of hepatic iron deposition, liver function, and liver fibrosis stage. Methods Ninety-one patients with chronic liver cirrhosis, who underwent megnetic resonance imagine （MRI） scanning in our department between November 2010 and April 2011, were included in the study. A 3.0T MRI scanner was used to acquire T1WI, T2WI, T2＊WI, and SWI images. The number of nodules, signal intensity ratio （SIR）, and contrast noise ratio （CNR） were recorded and analyzed by chi-square and ANOVA statistical tests. Correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the correlations between the number of SN and Child-Pugh classification, ferritin and hyaluronic acid levels. Results The sensitivity of SWI, T1WI, T2WI, and T2＊WI for detecting SN was 62.5%, 12.1%, 24.2% and 41.8%, respectively. SWI detected significantly more nodules than routine T1WI, T2WI, and T2＊WI procedures （P 〈0.05）. The SIR was the lowest in SWI （0.361±0.209）, as compared to T1WI （0.852±0.163）, T2WI （0.584±0.172）, and T2＊WI （0.497±0.196）. The CNR was the highest in SWI （13.932±5.637）, as compared to T1WI （9.147±5.785）, T2WI （9.771±5.490）, and T2＊WI （11.491±4.573）. The correlation coefficients of the number of SN with ferritin, Child-Pugh classification, and hyaluronic acid levels were 0.672, -0.055, and 0.163, respectively. Conclusions The sensitivity and contrast of SWI for detecting SN in patients with liver cirrhosis are higher than conventional MRI.
