Carbon Monoxide Alleviates Wheat Seed Germination Inhibition and Counteracts Lipid Peroxidation Mediated by Salinity

Recently In animals, endogenous carbon monoxide （CO）, like nitric oxlde, was implicated as another Important physiological messenger or bioactive molecule. However, little information is known about the physlologlcal roles of CO in the whole plant. In the present study, we report that different concentrations of the 130 donor hematin （0.1, 1.0 and 10.0 μmol/L） alleviated wheat （Tilticum aestivum L. Yangmai 158） seed germination Inhlbltlon caused by 250 mmol/L NaCI stress In a dose-dependent manner. These responses were also proved by the addltion of different gaseous CO aqueous solutions from 0.1% to 100.0% of saturation. Among these treatments, the effect of 1.0 μmol/L hematin and 1.0% saturation of CO aqueous solution were the most obvlous. Furthermore, compared with non-hematin treatment, the degradation of storage reserves In wheat seeds was also accelerated. Time-course analyses showed that application of hematln dose-dependently Increased the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase activities, thus decreasing the lipid peroxidation In germinating wheat seed subjected to salt stress. Meanwhile, the responses of hematin were specific for CO because the addition of the CO scavenger hemoglobln （0.2 g/L） blocked the various actions of 1.0 μmol/L hematin. Taken together, the results of the present study demonstrate that CO, at a low concentration, is able to attenuate the seed germlnation Inhibition produced by salinity stress and counteract the lipid peroxidation in germinating wheat seeds.

Preparation of sinter with low reduction degradation index for COREX reduction in a high proportion

The sinter with low reduction degradation index(RDI)for COREX reduction was prepared by separated granulation sintering *** results illustrate that the productivity and tumble index are attained to be 1.64 t m^(-2)h^(-1)and 59.25%,respectively,in pot tests under the optimal *** the reducing condition simulating COREX shaft furnace,RDI_(+6.3 mm),RDI_(+3.15 mm),and reducibility index of the sinter reach 63.05%,81.52%,and 83.65%,*** with traditional sintering process,the productivity rose by 14.69%,and RDI_(+6.3) mm and RDI_(+3.15) mm were increased by 157.54%and 32.70%,*** addition,as the proportion of sinter reached 60%,RDI_(+6.3 mm)and RDI_(+3.15 mm)of comprehensive burden were achieved to be 73.39%and 84.28%,respectively,which could completely meet the requirement of COREX shaft furnace for *** mechanism was demonstrated that the more silicoferrites of calcium and aluminum and silicate phase occurred as well as magnetite,and the amount of Fe_(2)O_(3)decreased substantially in the sinter by separated granulation sintering ***,the low-temperature reducing stress is restrained,with the increase in sinter strength.

Nacre-inspired Green Artificial Bionanocomposite Films from the Layer-by-Layer Assembly of Montmorillonite and Chitosan

The simple LBL technique was introduced to fabricate green nacre-like chatosan/montmorillonite （CHI/MMT） films. The results of SEM and XRD analysis demonstrate that the produced CHI/MMT composites films stacked densely together to bring out well-defined nacre-like brick-mortar structure. The nanoindentation technique is used to characterize the mechanical properties of the layered nanocomposite films, which show enhanced mechanical modulus （up to -6.64 GPa） compared with the pure chitosan.

Effects of different molecular weights of chitosan on methane production and bacterial community structure in vitro

As a new feed additive,chitosan has been shown in recent years to have a certain role in reducing methane emissions from the gastrointestinal tracts of ***,the effects of chitosan with different molecular weights on rumen ferme ntation,methane production and bacterial comm unity structure are not yet clear.A basal diet without chitosa n served as the control(CTL),and the treatment diets were supplemented with chitosan with different molecular weights:1000(1K),3000(3K),5000(5K),50000(5W)and 200000(20W)dry matter(DM).Six fermentation units per treatment were *** chromatography was used to measure the co nee ntrations of metha ne,H2 and volatile fatty acids(VFAs).The bacterial 16S rRNA genes were sequeneed with an Illumina MiSeq platform and analysed to reveal the relative abunda nces of bacterial community *** results showed that the propi onate proporti on was sign ifica ntly in creased by the addition of chitosan with different molecular weights(P<0.05),while methane production and the acetate proportion were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The relative mbundances of Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group and Prevotellaceae_UCG_003 were significa ntly in creased in the 3K chitosa n group compared with the CTL group,whereas the relative abunda nee of Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group was significantly decreased(P<0.05).Correlation analyses of the relative abundances of the bacterial genera showed that Prevotella was positively related to propionmte production(Pv0.05).In conclusion,3K chitosan could reduce methane production by replacing fibrolytic bacteria(Firmicutes and Fibrobacteres)with amylolytic bacteria(Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria)in the bacterial community structure.

A clinical neurophysiology study of Hirayama disease

Background Hirayama disease is a rare disease characterized by juvenile-onset of asymmetric amyotrophy, of which etiology has not been clarified. The aim of our study was to investigate the clinical and neurophysiologic characteristics of Hirayama disease. Methods Neurophysiological tests, including nerve conduction studies （NCS）, F-wave and routine electromyography （EMG）, were performed in seventy-three patients with Hirayama disease. EMG was selectively performed on upper and lower extremities, sternocleidomast and thoracic paravertebral muscles according to the clinical features of the patients. Results Abnormal NCS parameters, including decreased compound muscle action potentials or delayed distal motor latency, were found in 34.2% （25/73） and 12.3% （9/73） of the patients, respectively. A total of 24.6% （18/73） of the patients showed decreased F-wave frequency. EMG demonstrated the presence of neurogenic lesions in all patients with spontaneous potentials, prolonged duration or augmentation of amplitude in motor unit potentials （MUPs）, or a single pattern of MUP recruitment. About 17.8% （13/73） of the patients showed neurogenic lesions, mostly in the C7-8 level of the cervical cord, only in the upper extremity of affected side, whereas 35.6% （26/73） of the patients possessed lesions in the upper extremities bilaterally. A total of 46.6% （34/73） of patients exhibited abnormalities in the lower extremities, sterno- cleidomast or thoracic paravertebral muscle. Changes in motor NCS were significantly correlated with muscle strength. Conclusions EMG detects diffused subclinical neurogenic lesion in a high proportion of patients with Hirayama disease. Results of our study challenge the hypothesis that Hirayama disease is a type of cervical myelopathy.

A New Multiplicity Formula for the Weyl Modules of Type B and C

A monomial basis and a filtration of subalgebras for the universal enveloping algebra U（gl） of a complex simple Lie algebra gl of type Bl and Cl are given, and the decomposition of the Weyl module V （λ） as a U（gl）-module into a direct sum of Weyl modules V （μ）’s as U（gl-1）modules is described. In particular, a new multiplicity formula for the Weyl module V （λ） is obtained in this note.
