Acute liver failure(ALF)is an uncommon but dramatic clinical syndrome characterized by hepatic encephalopathy and a bleeding tendency due to abrupt loss of liver function caused by massive or submassive liver necrosis in a patient with a previously healthy *** causes of ALF encompass a wide variety of toxic,viral,metabolic,vascular and autoimmune insults to the liver,and identifying the correct cause can be difficult or even *** patients with ALF develop a cascade of serious complications involving almost every organ system,and death is mostly due to multi-organ failure,hemorrhage,infection,and intracranial ***,the outcome of ALF has been improved in the last 3 decades through the specific treatment for the disease of certain etiology,and the advanced intensive care *** most severely affected patients who fail to recover after treatment,rapid evaluation for transfer to a transplantation center and consideration for liver transplantation is mandatory so that transplantation can be applied before contraindications *** review focuses on the recent advances in the understanding of various contributing etiologies,the administration of etiology-specific treatment to alleviate the liver injury,and the management of complications(e.g.,encephalopathy,coagulopathy,cardiovascular instability,respiratory failure,renal failure,sepsis and metabolic disturbance)in patients with *** of the need for liver transplantation is also presented.

Due to the obvious deviations of the existing theoretical models from the experimental results of ferroelectric phase transition, a new model is proposed on the basis of the coupling between spontaneous polarization and spontaneous strain in ferroelectrics. The spontaneous polarization and specific heat of ferroelectric phase transition predicted by the model are in better agreement with the corresponding data of triglyceride sulfate, a typical *** addition, the model predicts a new type of ferroelectric in which a phase transition and a phase-like transition coexist.

Flexible PANI-Polyethersulfone (PES) fibers were fabricated using the wet-spinning *** particles were uniformly distributed within the matrix and micropores formed by the phase separation of PES,which prevented PANI particles aggregation and facilitated the formation of continuous ion transport *** experimental results reveals that the electrochemical performance of the fiber electrode material is optimal when the concentration of PES in the spinning solution is 15wt%.The assembled supercapacitor exhibits a commendable specific area capacitance of 162.75 mF·cm^(-2) at a current density of 0.5 mA·cm^(-2) and achieves an energy density of 14.47 mWh·cm^(-2) at a power density of 321.69 mW·cm^(-2).The capacitor retains 98.1% of its capacitance after 1 000 bending ***,the prepared fibers have good electrochemical properties and flexibility,and this simple and efficient preparation method is promising for the scalable production of flexible electrodes.

Effects of High Fluoride and Low Iodine on Thyroid Function in Offspring Rats

Thirty-two Wistar rats were divided randomly into four groups of eight with six females and two males in each group. The rats were exposed to high fluoride drinking water （45 mg F-L^-1 from 100 mg NaF L-1）, low dietary iodine （0.0855 mg kg-1）, or both together in order to assess the effects of these three regimens on the thyroid function of the offspring rats. After the animal model was established, the offspring rats were bred and 10-, 20-, 30-, 60-, and 90-d-old rats were used for the experiment. The treatments for the offspring rats were the same as those of their parents. In comparison with control rats, the relative thyroid glands were changed by three regimens, but the mean values of thyroid weight in the experimental groups saw no marked difference. Serum TT3 levels were increased in all stages in the low iodine （LI） group. In the high fluoride （HiF） group, increase in TT3 levels was observed except in 20-d-old rats. Decrease in TT3 at 20- and 90-d and increase in TT3 at 30- and 60-d were found in HiF＋LI group. Serum TT4 levels first saw an increase, and then dropped in the LI and HiF＋LI group. However, an increase in TT4 was found in the HiF group. The levels of TSH in serum rocketed at d 20, and then dropped in the next stages in experimental groups. The results suggested that thyroid disorder could be induced by high flroride in drinking water, low iodine diet, or both of them. Exposure time to fluoride or low iodine diet was one of the important factors that fluoride can induce the development of thyroid dyfunction.

Flow separation and secondary flow in the S-duct of an aircraft engine cause severe pressure loss and airflow distortion at the outlet,lowering engine ***,a serial two-electrode plasma synthetic jet(PSJ)actuator array is used to actively control the flow field in the duct and improve its *** results show that the PSJ significantly increases the wall pressure recovery coefficient,suppresses flow separation,and improves the outlet pressure *** primary and secondary orders of the influencing factors are as follows:control position>jet momentum coefficient>excitation frequency>jet *** best jet control position is near the separation location,and the best jet configuration is the‘Λ’*** higher the jet momentum coefficient and excitation frequency,the better the flow *** wall pressure coefficient increases by up to 127.8%,and the outlet steady pressure distortion index decreases by 9.15%.The control mechanism is the direct energy injection into the flow boundary layer through a high-speed jet and the indirect control effect of the induced streamwise *** the one hand,the PSJ suppresses flow separation by improving the ability of the boundary layer to resist the inverse pressure *** the other hand,it reduces pressure distortion by decreasing the intensity of the secondary flow and weakening the *** study thus provides a new technology for the active control of the flow-field characteristics in an S-duct and has significance for guiding the application of synthetic jet technology in S-ducts.

Environmental factors regulating cyanobacteria dominance and microcystin production in a subtropical lake within the Taihu watershed,China

Understanding the pattern ofphytoplankton and their dependence on water quality variables, can help the management of eutrophic lakes. The aim of this study was to determine water quality and environmental factors associated with cyanobacteria dominance and microcystin production in Qingshan Lake, a subtropical lake located in the headwater of the Taihu watershed, China. Water samples collected monthly from 10 study sites in Qingshan Lake were analyzed for the species distributions of freshwater algae and physico-chemical parameters including total nitrogen （TN）, ammonia （NH4＋-N）, nitrate （NO3--N）, total phosphorus （TP）, and chlorophyll a （Chl-a） from June, 2008 to May, 2009. Qingshan Lake was found to be eutrophic, based on the calculated trophic state index （TSI）. The average TN of 4.33 mg/L during the study period exceeded the Surface Water Quality Standards of China. TP was significantly correlated with relative abundance of cyanobacteria and Microeystis biovolume, indi- cating its important role in regulating cyanobacteria. Microcystis, Anabaena, and Oscillatoria were dominant cyanobacteria in Qingshan Lake from June to November, 2008. Cyanobacteria dominance was regulated by water temperature and TE Principal component analysis further indicated that microcystin production was most affected by water temperature, TP, and cyanobacteria biomass. Results suggest that the control of TP in summer can mitigate cyanobacteria dominance and microcystin production in Qingshan Lake, and close monitoring should be undertaken in summer.

OBJECTIVE： To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for optic atrophy. DATA SOURCES： A computer-based online search was conducted in Medline （1966-2008）, Embase （1986-2008）, the Cochrane Library （up to 2008）, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database （1975-2008）, China National Knowledge Infrastructure （1994-2008）, VIP Database （1989-2008）, Wanfang Database （1980-2008） and the National Research Register for ongoing trials. DATA SELECTION： Randomized, controlled trials addressing acupuncture treatment for patients with optic atrophy were included in this review. Inclusion criteria evaluated all forms of acupuncture therapy, such as filiform needle, electro-acupuncture, laser-acupuncture, acupressure, and auricular-acupuncture. Comparisons between acupuncture therapy and no treatment （blank） or placebo or Chinese medicine or Western medicine, as well as between acupuncture as an adjuvant and other treatments, were included. Exclusion criteria included studies comparing different forms of acupuncture therapy, different manipulations of acupuncture, and different acupuncture prescriptions, as well as non-randomized, controlled trials and animal studies. The domain-based evaluation criteria recommended by the guidelines in Chapter 8 of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions 5.0.1 was used to assess quality of the included studies. According to the type of outcome index, measurement data as assessed by weighted mean difference or standardized mean difference and 95% confidence interval; numeration data was estimated by relative risk and 95% confidence interval. Heterogeneity was analyzed by Meta-analysis using RevMan 5.0 software. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Improved visual acuity and visual field was sought between treatment and control groups in the included articles.
