Industrial Carbon Emission Distribution and Regional Joint Emission Reduction:A Case Study of Cities in the Pearl River Basin,China

China’s low-carbon development path will make significant contributions to achieving global sustainable development goals.Due to the diverse natural and economic conditions across different regions in China,there exists an imbalance in the distribution of car-bon emissions.Therefore,regional cooperation serves as an effective means to attain low-carbon development.This study examined the pattern of carbon emissions and proposed a potential joint emission reduction strategy by utilizing the industrial carbon emission intens-ity(ICEI)as a crucial factor.We utilized social network analysis and Local Indicators of Spatial Association(LISA)space-time trans-ition matrix to investigate the spatiotemporal connections and discrepancies of ICEI in the cities of the Pearl River Basin(PRB),China from 2010 to 2020.The primary drivers of the ICEI were determined through geographical detectors and multi-scale geographically weighted regression.The results were as follows:1)the overall ICEI in the Pearl River Basin is showing a downward trend,and there is a significant spatial imbalance.2)There are numerous network connections between cities regarding the ICEI,but the network structure is relatively fragile and unstable.3)Economically developed cities such as Guangzhou,Foshan,and Dongguan are in the center of the network while playing an intermediary role.4)Energy consumption,industrialization,per capita GDP,urbanization,science and techno-logy,and productivity are found to be the most influential variables in the spatial differentiation of ICEI,and their combination in-creased the explanatory power of the geographic variation of ICEI.Finally,through the analysis of differences and connections in urban carbon emissions under different economic levels and ICEI,the study suggests joint carbon reduction strategies,which are centered on carbon transfer,financial support,and technological assistance among cities.

In recent years,machine-learning methods have profoundly impacted research in the interdisciplinary fields of physics.However,most machine-learning models lack interpretability,and physicists doubt the credibility of their conclusions because they cannot be combined with prior physical knowledge.Therefore,this review focuses on symbolic regression,which is an interpretable machine-learning method.First,the relevant concepts of machine learning are introduced in conjunction with induction.Next,we provide an overview of symbolic regression methods.Subsequently,the recent directions for the application of symbolic regression methods in different subfields of physics are outlined,and an overview of the ways in which the applications of symbolic regression have evolved in the realm of physics is provided.The major aim of this review is to introduce the basic principles of symbolic regression and explain its applications in the field of physics.

Efficiency improvement by using metal–insulator‑semiconductor structure in InGaN/GaN micro‑light‑emitting diodes

InGaN/GaN micro-light-emitting diodes(micro-LEDs)with a metal–insulator-semiconductor(MIS)structure on the sidewall are proposed to improve efficiency.In this MIS structure,a sidewall electrode is deposited on the insulating layer-coated sidewall of the device mesa between a cathode on the bottom and an anode on the top.Electroluminescence(EL)measurements of fabricated devices with a mesa diameter of 10μm show that the application of negative biases on the sidewall electrode can increase the device external quantum efficiency(EQE).In contrast,the application of positive biases can decrease the EQE.The band structure analysis reveals that the EQE is impacted because the application of sidewall electric fields manipulates the local surface electron density along the mesa sidewall and thus controls surface Shockley–Read–Hall(SRH)recombination.Two suggested strategies,reducing insulator layer thickness and exploring alternative materials,can be implemented to further improve the EQE of MIS micro-LEDs in future fabrication.

Suppressing the formation of amorphous surface carbon and contaminants during the preparation of graphene by chemical vapor deposition remains an ongoing issue.Herein,we analyzed how substrate characteristics affect graphene quality by simulating margin extension,the nucleation process,and defect pegging configurations on mono-crystalline oriented metal substrates with the aim of enhancing graphene cleanliness.Defect formation energy and nucleation potential,which are indirect substrate–graphene interaction features,were found to appropriately evaluate graphene quality.The crystallographic orientation of the metal substrate was discovered to be critical for producing superclean graphene.A low graphene defect density and high nucleation rate on the Cu(100)facet guarantee growth of high-quality graphene,especially in terms of suppressing the formation of amorphous carbon.In addition,rapid kink growth and self-healing on the Cu(100)facet facilitate rapid graphene synthesis,which is also promoted by rapid kink splicing and margin self-repair on this facet.This study provides theoretical insight useful for the synthesis of superclean graphene.

Immunological Exploration of Helicobacter pylori Serotype O_(2) O-Antigen by Using a Synthetic Glycan Library

Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection is a threat to human health.The lipopolysaccharide(LPS)O-antigen holds promise for developing vaccines.It is meaningful to explore the immunological activity of oligosaccharides with different lengths and frameshifts for antigen development.Herein,a glycan library of H.pylori O2 O-antigen containing eight fragments is constructed.After screening with anti-H.pylori O2 LPS sera and patients’sera by glycan microarray,the disaccharide HPO2G-2b and trisaccharide HPO2G-3a show strong antigenicity and then are separately conjugated with carrier protein CRM197.Both glycoconjugates elicit a robust immunoglobulin G(IgG)immune response in rabbits.The anti-HPO2G-3a IgG antibodies possess a much stronger binding affinity with the LPS and bacteria of H.pylori O2 than the anti-HPO2G-2b IgG antibodies.There is no cross-reaction between both sera IgG antibodies with LPS and bacteria of H.pylori O1,O6,and E.coli.The results demonstrate the trisaccharide HPO2G-3a is a promising candidate for H.pylori vaccine development.

Lipase and photodecarboxylase coexpression: A potential strategy for alkane-based biodiesel production from natural triglycerides

Alkane-based biodiesel is considered the next generation of biodiesel owing to its potential environmental benefits and the fact that it exhibits much higher specific caloric values than traditional biodiesel.However,the formidable obstacle impeding the commercialization of this cutting-edge fuel alternative lies in the cost associated with its production.In this study,an engineered strain Escherichia coli(E.coli)showcasing harmonized coexpression of a lipase(from Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase,TLL)and a fatty acid photodecarboxylase(from Chlorella variabilis,CvFAP)was first constructed to transform triglycerides into alkanes.The potential of E.coli BL21(DE3)/pRSFDuet-1-TLL-CvFAP for alkane synthesis was evaluated with tripalmitin as a model substrate under various process conditions.Following a comprehensive examination of the reaction parameters,the scope of the biotransformation was expanded to‘real’substrates(vegetable oils).The results showed that bioderived oils can be transformed into alkanes with high yields(0.80-10.20 mmol·L^(-1))under mild conditions(35℃,pH 8.0,and 36 h)and blue light illumination.The selected processes were performed on an increased lab scale(up to 100 ml)with up to 24.77 mmol·L^(-1) tripalmitin,leading to a yield of 18.89 mmol·L^(-1) pentadecane.With the employment of a method for efficiently producing alkanes under mild conditions and a simple procedure to isolate alkanes from the reaction system,the utilization of sustainable biomass as a fundamental feedstock emerges as the primary solution to lower the cost of alkane-based biodiesel.Thus,this study proposes a readily implementable and highly effective approach for alkane-based biodiesel production.

BACKGROUND Rectus abdominis separation(DRA)affects pelvic stability and body image.No studies have explored the effects of manual massage on early postpartum DRA and postpartum depression.AIM To analyze the curative effect of massage on early postpartum DRA and its impact on postpartum depression and thus its ability promote the overall psychosomatic rehabilitation of postpartum women.METHODS Data were retrospectively collected on 70 primiparous women with postpartum DRA who underwent rehabilitation at the Postpartum Rehabilitation Center of Huzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital from October 2022 to September 2023.The patients were divided into the Group S(35 cases,biomimetic electrical stimulation treatment)and Group L(35 cases,biomimetic electrical stimulation combined with manual massage treatment).Baseline data,the edinburgh postpartum depression scale(EPDS)score,and the visual analog scale(VAS)scores for rectus abdominis distance,waist circumference,and lower back pain before and after treatment were compared.RESULTS No significant differences were found in the baseline data,rectus abdominis distance,waist circumference,and VAS and EPDS scores between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05).After treatment,the distance between rectus abdominis and waist circumference in Group L were significantly smaller than those in Group S(P<0.05).Furthermore,lower back pain(VAS score)and the EPDS score in Group L were significantly lower than those in Group S(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Manual massage can significantly reduce early postpartum DRA,waist circumference,and back pain and improve the patient’s mental state and postpartum depression.

Xenopus GLP-1-based glycopeptides as dual glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor/glucagon receptor agonists with improved in vivo stability for treating diabetes and obesity

Peptide dual agonists toward both glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor(GLP-1R)and glucagon receptor(GCGR)are emerging as novel therapeutics for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients with obesity.Our previous work identified a Xenopus GLP-1-based dual GLP-1R/GCGR agonist termed xGLP/GCG-13,which showed decent hypoglycemic and body weight lowering activity.However,the clinical utility of xGLP/GCG-13 is limited due to its short in vivo half-life.Inspired by the fact that O-GlcNAcylation of intracellular proteins leads to increased stability of secreted proteins,we rationally designed a panel of O-GlcNAcylated xGLP/GCG-13 analogs as potential long-acting GLP-1R/GCGR dual agonists.One of the synthesized glycopeptides 1f was found to be equipotent to xGLP/GCG-13 in cell-based receptor activation assays.As expected,O-GlcNAcylation effectively improved the stability of xGLP/GCG-13 in vivo.Importantly,chronic administration of 1f potently induced body weight loss and hypoglycemic effects,improved glucose tolerance,and normalized lipid metabolism and adiposity in both db/db and diet induced obesity(DIO)mice models.These results supported the hypothesis that glycosylation is a useful strategy for improving the in vivo stability of GLP-1-based peptides and promoted the development of dual GLP-1R/GCGR agonists as antidiabetic/antiobesity drugs.

The ribose and phosphorus contents in Haemophilus influenzae type b(Hib)capsular polysaccharide(CPS)are two important chemical indexes for the development and quality control of Hib conjugate vaccine.A quantitative ^(1)H-and ^(31)P-NMR method using a single internal standard was developed for simultaneous determination of ribose and phosphorus contents in Hib CPS.Hexamethylphosphoramide(HMPA)was successfully utilized as an internal standard in quantitative ^(1)H-NMR method for ribose content determination.The ribose and phosphorus contents were found to be affected by the concentration of polysaccharide solution.Thus,15–20 mg·L^(−1) was the optimal concentration range of Hib CPS in D_(2)O solution for determination of ribose and phosphorus contents by this method.The ribose and phosphorus contents obtained by the quantitative NMR were consistent with those obtained by traditional chemical methods.In conclusion,this quantitative ^(1)H-and ^(31)P-NMR method using a single internal standard shows good specificity,accuracy and precision,providing a valuable approach for the quality control of Hib glycoconjugate vaccines.
