Reduced mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor expression by mutant androgen receptor contributes to neurodegeneration in a model of spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy pathology

Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy is a neurodegenerative disease caused by extended CAG trinucleotide repeats in the androgen receptor gene,which encodes a ligand-dependent transcription facto *** mutant androgen receptor protein,characterized by polyglutamine expansion,is prone to misfolding and forms aggregates in both the nucleus and cytoplasm in the brain in spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy *** aggregates alter protein-protein interactions and compromise transcriptional *** this study,we reported that in both cultured N2a cells and mouse brain,mutant androgen receptor with polyglutamine expansion causes reduced expression of mesencephalic astrocyte-de rived neurotrophic *** n of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor amelio rated the neurotoxicity of mutant androgen receptor through the inhibition of mutant androgen receptor *** down endogenous mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor in the mouse brain exacerbated neuronal damage and mutant androgen receptor *** findings suggest that inhibition of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor expression by mutant androgen receptor is a potential mechanism underlying neurodegeneration in spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy.

This paper demonstrates the design and fabrication of three-dimensional(3 D) hexagonally ordered microbowl arrays(MBAs) decorated with Cu In S2 nanosheets for enhanced photoelectrochemical(PEC) performance. The 3 D MBAs are fabricated by a micro-fabrication technique. The ultrathin CuInS2 nanosheets are grown on the 3 D electrodes by solvothermal transformation of Cu film. The photocurrent density of 3 D photocathode(CuInS2@MBAs) is about two times higher than that of the planar counterpart(CuInS2@Planar). The improved PEC performance can be ascribed to the elevated light trapping ability and the increased surface area for loading photocatalysts. In addition, CdS quantum dots as cocatalysts are modified onto the Cu In S2 nanosheets to further enhance the PEC activity because the formed p-n heterojunction can accelerate the separation of photogenerated carriers. As a result, the 3 D photocathode of CuInS2/CdS@MBAs shows an optimal incident photon to current efficiency of 10% at the wavelength of400 nm. It is believed that this work can be generalized to design other hierarchical 3 D photoelectrodes for improved solar water splitting.

Methods of coating Al_(2)O_(3) on nickel micro-foam were compared and screened,aiming to overcome the capillary force and prepare the micro-foam monolithic catalyst *** surface of micro-foam substrate was pretreated by a chemical etching method to improve the adhesion of the coatings on the *** results showed that the slurry circulation at 162 ml·min^(-1) was evaluated as the optimal *** pore size on the substrate surface can be controlled by changing the pretreatment *** empirical correlation was also proposed,showing an excellent practicality for predicting the pore *** adhesion of the coatings with substrate pretreatment was significantly better than that without substrate *** minimum value of mass loss after ultrasonic vibration was 3.9%.This mainly attributes to the squeezing of Al_(2)O_(3) particles in the pores of substrate *** coatings on nickel micro-foam are hopefully used in micropacked beds for catalytic reactions.

BACKGROUND The induced-membrane technique was initially described by Masquelet as an effective treatment for large bone defects,especially those caused by ***,we report a case of chronic osteomyelitis of the radius associated with a 9 cm bone defect,which was filled with a large allogeneic cortical bone graft from a bone *** bony union was achieved after 14 months of *** studies have used autogenous bone as the primary bone source for the Masquelet technique;in our case,the exclusive use of allografts is as successful as the use of autologous bone *** the advent of bone banks,it is possible to obtain an unlimited amount of allograft,and the Masquelet technique may be further improved based on this new way of bone *** SUMMARY In this study,we reported a case of repair of a long bone defect in a 40-year-old male patient,which was characterized by the utilization of allograft cortical bone combined with the Masquelet technique for the treatment of the patient's long bone defect in the *** patient's results of functional recovery of the forearm were surprising,which further deepens the scope of application of Masquelet technique and helps to strengthen the efficacy of Masquelet technique in the treatment of long bones *** Allograft cortical bone combined with the Masquelet technique provides a new method of treatment to large bone defect.

N-F-codoped TiO2 （NFTO） photocatalysts were synthesized by a simple sol-gel process with tetrabutyl titanate （Ti（OBu）4 ） as the precursor of TiO 2 and ammonium fluoride （NH4 F） as the source of N and *** synthesized photocatalysts were investigated by X- ray diffraction （XRD）,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）,ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy （UV-Vis DRS） and photodegradation reaction tests of 4-chlorophenol under visible light irradiation to understand the relationship between the structure of NFTO catalyst and corresponding photocatalytic *** crystal phase and particle size of catalysts were found to be largely affected by the calcination *** addition,N-F-codoping could inhibit phase transition of TiO2 from anatase to *** presence of N and F atoms in the lattice of TiO2 is responsible for the visible light catalytic *** UV-Vis DRS tests,the spectrum of NFTO exhibited red shift compared with Degussa P25 and the band gap was reduced to around 2.92 *** optimal calcination temperature and dopant concentration conditions,the NFTO photocatalyst exhibited the highest activity in the photodegradation reaction tests of 4-chlorophenol under visible light irradiation with a degradation rate of 75.84%.Besides,the 5-recycle test showed that NFTO photocatalyst could be reused and its activity kept stable under visible light irradiation.

This paper analyzes the system-level state of health(SOH)and its dependence on the SOHs of its component battery *** to stochastic natures of battery aging processes and their dependence on charge/discharge rate and depth,operating temperature,and environment conditions,capacities of battery modules decay unevenly and *** on estimated SOHs of battery modules during battery operation,we analyze how the SOH of the entire system deteriorates when battery modules age and become increasingly diverse in their capacities.A rigorous mathematical analysis of system-level capacity utilization is *** is shown that for large battery strings with uniformly distributed capacities,the average string capacity approaches the minimum,implying an asymptotically near worst-case capacity utility without *** is demonstrated that the overall battery usable capacities can be more efficiently utilized to achieve extended operational ranges by using battery *** optimal regrouping algorithm is *** methods,simulation examples,and a case study using real-world battery data are presented.

Thermite films are typical energetic materials(EMs)and have great value in initiating explosive ***,research in thermite film preparation is far behind that of research in thermite *** deposition(EPD)is an emerging,rapid coating method for film fabrication,including of energetic composite *** this work,a polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)/Al/CuO organic-inorganic hybrid energetic film was successfully obtained using the above method for the first *** addition of lithocholic acid as a surfactant into the electroplating suspension enabled PTFE to be *** combustion and energy release were analyzed by means of a high-speed camera and differential scanning calorimetery(DSC).It was found that the combustion process and energy release of PTFE/Al/CuO were much better than that of Al/*** main reason for the excellent combustion performance of the hybrid PTFE/Al/CuO system was that the oxidability of PTFE accelerated the redox reaction between Al and *** prepared PTFE/Al/CuO film was also employed as ignition material to fire a B-KNO_3 explosive successfully,indicating considerable potential for use as an ignition material in *** study sheds light on the preparation of fluoropolymer-containing organic-inorganic hybrid energetic films by one-step electrophoretic deposition.

This paper studies identification of systems in which the system output is quantized, transmitted through a digital communication channel, and observed afterwards. The concept of the CR Ratio is introduced to characterize impact of communication channels on identification. The relationship between the CR Ratio and Shannon channel capacity is discussed. Identification algorithms are further developed when the channel error probability is unknown.
