The Comparison of Thick and Thin Intermediate Wafer in Maxillary Le Fort I Osteotomies

Background: Osteotomy wafers were routinely used in orthognathic surgery for repositioning the mobilized maxilla to achieve the planned final occlusion. Objectives: The aim of the current study was to determine comparison of thick and thin intermediate wafer in maxillary Le Fort I osteotomies. Methods: This study was done in 9 patients who had maxillary prognathism or retrognathism abnormality. The maxillary cast was oriented using articulator after facebow transfer. Then photographic and cephalometric data was used to determine proper dental arch segments. All 9 patients had Le Fort I combined with mandibular sagittal split osteotomies. The Le Fort I surgery was done on lateral, septum and medial sinus of nasal and trigomaxillary. The cast was removed from the base articulator and think and thick wafers were fabricated for each. Then the wafers were fixed in 1, 2 and 3 mm anterior (A1, A2 and A3, respectively). After mobilization of the maxilla and adequate bone removal, the jaws were held in occlusion with the thin intermediate wafer. The maxilla was then located against the stable part of the facial skeleton above using the yet unoperated mandible as an autorotated guide. Then the superior reposition >1 or Results: According to the results, the superior reposition was higher in thin wafers fixed in A3 > A2 compared to A1. Also, the same result was detected in thick wafers fixed in A3 > A2 compared to A1, respectively. However, there was no significant difference in both thin and thick wafers in each fixed locations. Conclusion: These results suggest thick wafers have acceptable results in maxillary Le Fort I osteotomies.

Studying the landslide and rockfall in Yemen still in its preliminary stage. Al Gayah rockfall site is a chronic problem as many other areas in the Republic of Yemen. The present authors have tried to highlight, and find best solution for this problem for the first time. Field work, collecting data and laboratory test for many rock samples such physical properties, chemical for major elements and thin section have been carried out. The physical properties performed according to ASTM, and then the result have been gotten and discussed.

Sheytoor Iron Ore deposit is located in Yazd province of Iran (Bafq). The most abundant ore is magnetite, which can be seen in the form of mass and granular tissue in various forms of self-shaped, semi-self-shaped and amorphous. The main purpose of this study is to identify the geochemical relationship of phosphorus and sulfur elements and also three-dimensional modeling of mineralization of these elements in iron ore. In order to achieve the research goal, methods such as k-mean clustering technique, concentration-volume fractal as well as block modeling with kriging estimator and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolator were used. The model of geochemical behavior of phosphorus and sulfur elements compared to iron is of great importance because these two elements are known as deleterious elements in mineral processing and steelmaking processes, which are the post-mining stages. Existence of geochemical model and identification of elements’ behavior towards each other play a key role in optimizing mining operations in order to achieve geometallurgical goals. The results of this study are the three-dimensional model of mineralization of iron, phosphorus and sulfur elements, separation of phosphorus and sulfur mineralization communities and also presenting the model of enrichment community of these two elements. All the results are in line with geometallurgical studies and can optimize the next steps by optimizing the mining process.

We consider a capacitated location-allocation problem in the presence of k connections on the horizontal line barrier. The objective is to locate a set of new facilities among a set of existing facilities and to allocate an optimal number of existing facilities to each new facility in order to satisfy their demands such that the summation of the weighted rectilinear barrier distances from new facilities to existing facilities is minimized. The proposed problem is designed as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model. To show the efficiency of the model, a numerical example is provided. It is worth noting that the global optimal solution is obtained.

Biodegradable elastomers are important emerging biomaterials for biomedical applications,particularly in the area of soft-tissue engineering in which scaffolds need to match the physicochemical properties of native ***,we report novel fast photocurable elastomers with readily tunable mechanical properties,surface wettability,and *** elastomers are prepared by a 5-min UV-irradiation of thiol-ene reaction systems of glycerol tripentenoate(GTP;a triene)or the combination of GTP and 4-pentenyl 4-pentenoate(PP;a diene)with a carefully chosen series of di-or *** the subsequent application study,these elastomers were found to be capable of overcoming delamination of myotubes,a technical bottleneck limiting the in vitro growth of mature functional *** glycerol-based elastomers supported the proliferation of mouse and human myoblasts,as well as myogenic differentiation into contractile *** notably,while beating mouse myotubes detached from conventional tissue culture plates,they remain adherent on the elastomer *** results suggest that these elastomers as novel biomaterials may provide a promising platform for engineering functional soft tissues with potential applications in regenerative medicine or pharmacological testing.

Smoking is one of the preventable leading causes of death worldwide. Most of the studies focused on the association between smoking and cardiovascular disease, pulmonary diseases, malignancy and death. However, the direct effect of smoking on the renal system was undermind. There are emerging evidence correlating tobacco use with pathological changes in the normal kidneys. The effect is more obvious on the renal allograft most probably due to the chronic immune suppression status and the metabolic effect of the drugs. Several studies have documented a deleterious effect of smoking on the renal transplant recipients. Smoking was associated with lowering patient and graft survival. Smoking cessation proved to improve graft survival and to a lesser extent recipient survival. Even receiving a renal transplant from a smoker donor increases the risk of death for the recipient and carries a poorer graft survival compared to non-smoking donors. Most of the studies investigating the effect of smoking were based on self-reporting questioners, which may be misleading due to poor recall or the desire to give socially acceptable answers. This made the need of a reliable biomarker of ultimate importance. Cotinine was proposed as a promising biomarker that may help to provide objective evidence regarding the status of smoking and the dose of nicotine exposure, yet there are still some limitations of its use. The aim of this work is to review the current evidence to improve our understanding of this critical topic. Indeed, this will help to guide better-designed studies in the future.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by the deficiency of specific symptoms in the early stages of the disease and a poor prognosis. Biomarkers that have the diagnostic ability to distinguish between inflammation, cirrhosis, and HCC are needed for early case detection. MidKine (MK) is overexpressed in many malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric carcinoma, colon carcinoma, lung carcinoma, urinary bladder carcinoma and prostate carcinoma. Objective: The objective is to evaluate serum MidKine as a marker of HCC in HCV-related liver cirrhosis. Patients and Methods: This study included 50 patients with HCC (on top of hepatitis C virus-related cirrhosis), 20 cirrhotic patients due to chronic HCV infection, and 10 normal subjects as a control group. History, examination, and laboratory investigations were performed on all subjects in the three groups including MK and Alpha fetoprotein (AFP) serum levels. Results: Serum levels of AFP and MK were higher in the HCC group than in the other study groups (P Conclusion: MidKine is a novel sensitive biomarker that could be used for early detection of HCC and has a high significance in differentiation between cirrhosis and HCC cases. MidKine levels are correlated with HCC stages and sizes.
