Four-birds-with-one-stone:A multifunctional Ti-based material for solar-driven water evaporation

Sustainable,environmentally friendly and low-energy desalination materials have important research value for the increasing demand of freshwater year by year.However,it is a huge challenge to maintain high heat energy transfer efficiency without reducing the heat conversion capacity of specific solar photothermal conversion materials.Moreover,their efficiency and durability are greatly limited by the problems of seawater corrosion,oil,and bacteria pollutions.Till now,no related work has been reported to solve all the aforementioned problems via a simple four-birds-with-one-stone strategy.Herein,a class of multifunctional porous photothermal silver(Ag)modified Ti foams(Tf-TA/Ag series materials)is prepared for the development of advanced solar water evaporation devices,and provides alternative materials for alleviating freshwater crisis and treating sewage.The oil contact angle(OCA)changes from 41°to 180°,which significantly reduces the adhesion of oil.In addition,Tf-TA2/Ag sample also shows an excellent and sustained antibacterial effect,which maintains above 99.9%of antibacterial rate after repeated 5 times.The surface temperature of the Tf-TA2/Ag sample reaches 52.5℃ after simulated sun irradiation for 20 min,which is significantly higher than that of the contact groups(water:36.4℃,Ti foam:38.2℃ and Tf-TA2:40.9℃).The capacity of seawater evaporation and salt removal is enhanced due to the excellent photothermal properties,low reflectance,and uniform heat dissipation pores.The water production efficiency of Tf-TA2/Ag sample is 1.41 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1) in artificial seawater and 0.76 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1) in oily sewage under simulated sun irradiation.Furthermore,the hydrophilic and oleophobic properties of Tf-TA2/Ag are critical to extracting water from oil/water mixture in diverse water environments.Ultimately,this four-birds-with-one-stone approach provides a new perspective for the improvement of solar seawater desalination performance.

The cloud computing technology has emerged,developed,and matured in recent years,consequently commercializing remote outsourcing storage services.An increasing number of companies and individuals have chosen the cloud to store their data.However,accidents,such as cloud server downtime,cloud data loss,and accidental deletion,are serious issues for some applications that need to run around the clock.For some mission and business-critical applications,the continuous availability of outsourcing storage services is also necessary to protect users'outsourced data during downtime.Nevertheless,ensuring the continuous availability of data in public cloud data integrity auditing protocols leads to data privacy issues because auditors can obtain the data content of users by a sufficient number of storage proofs.Therefore,protecting data privacy is a burning issue.In addition,existing data integrity auditing schemes that rely on semi-trusted third-party auditors have several security problems,including single points of failure and performance bottlenecks.To deal with these issues,we propose herein a blockchain-based continuous data integrity checking protocol with zero-knowledge privacy protection.We realize a concrete construction by using a verifiable delay function with high efficiency and proof of retrievability,and prove the security of the proposal in a random oracle model.The proposed construction supports dynamic updates for the outsourced data.We also design smart contracts to ensure fairness among the parties involved.Finally,we implement the protocols,and the experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed protocol.

Schisandrin B exerts anticancer effects on human gastric cancer cells through ROS-mediated MAPK,STAT3,and NF-κB pathways

Schisandrin B(Sch B)is a monomer with anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects,which are isolated from the plant Schisandra chinensis(Turcz)Baillon.We investigated the anti-gastric cancer(GC)effects of Sch B and its underlying molecular mechanisms.The Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to determine the effects of Sch B on the viability of GC and normal cell lines.Hoechst/propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry were used to assess the apoptosis induction of Sch B.Western blotting was used to evaluate the effects of Sch B on downstream apoptotic proteins.The DCFH-DA fluorescent probe was used to assess the regulatory effects of Sch B on reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels and related signaling pathways in GC cells.The results showed that Sch B could regulate the phosphorylation level of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)by upregulating ROS accumulation in gastric cancer cells,and then reduce the expression of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)and phosphorylated transcription 3(p-STAT3).In addition,Sch B downregulated the cell cycle proteins cyclin-dependent kinase 2/4/6 and cyclin D1/E,and arrested cells in the G0/G1 phase.Moreover,it also inhibited cell migration,which was reversed with Nacetylcysteine pretreatment.In summary,Sch B has killing effects on GC cells by upregulating the production of intracellular ROS and regulating the MAPK/STAT3/NF-κB signaling pathway,leading to the migration arrest and apoptosis of GC cells.

Hybrids composed of biocompatible polymers reinforced with inorganic nanomaterials are useful for many biomedical applications including implantation and tissue regeneration and engineering.In this work,we report a new type of hybrid prepared by doping ultrathin nanowires of lanthanide hydroxycarbonates into classical biocompatible poly(citrates-siloxane).The doping of the inorganic nanowires imparts the hybrids with excellent miscibility with the polymeric matrix,producing hybrids with high elasticity and high tensile strength.The hybrids containing Eu(III)and Gd(III)display their respective luminescence and magnetic properties and thus,offer opportunities to monitor the fate of such hybrids when used in vivo.Insignificant degradation and excellent biocompatibility of these hybrids have also been demonstrated.Together,these favorable traits portend useful applications of the newly developed hybrid elastomers.

Marine collagen peptides(MCPs)are natural products prepared by hydrolyzing marine collagen protein through a variety of chemical methods or enzymes.MCPs have a range of structures and biological activities and are widely present in marine species.MCPs also have a small molecular weight,are easily modified,and absorbed by the body.These properties have attracted great interest from researchers studying antioxidant,anti-tumor,and anti-aging activities.MCPs of specific molecular weights have significant anti-tumor activity and no toxic side effects.Thus,MCPs have the potential use as anti-cancer adjuvant drugs.Free radicals produced by oxidation are closely related to human aging,cancer,arteriosclerosis,and other diseases,but their relationship with cancer is not well known.In this review,we focus on the antioxidant properties of MCPs in the treatment of cancer,highlighting their antioxidant molecular structure and potential for clinical practice.

Electro-catazone treatment of an ozone-resistant drug:Effect of sintering temperature on TiO_(2) nanoflower catalyst on porous Ti gas diffuser anodes

Electrochemical heterogeneous catalytic ozonation(E-catazone) is a promising and advanced oxidation technology that uses a titanium dioxide nanoflower(TiO_(2-NF))-coated porous Ti gas diffuser as an anode material.Our previous study has highlighted that the importance of the TiO_(2-NF)coating layer in enhancing*OH production and rapidly degrading O_(3)-resistant drugs.It is well known that the properties of TiO_(2-NF)are closely related to its sintering temperature.However,to date,related research has not been conducted in E-catazone systems.Thus,this study evaluated the effect of the sintering temperature on the degradation of the O_(3)-resistant drug para-chlorobenzoic acid(p-CBA) using both experimental and kinetic modeling and revealed its influence mechanism.The results indicated that the TiO_(2-NF)sintering temperature could influence p-CBA degradation and*OH production.TiO_(2-NF)prepared at 450 C showcased the highest p-CBA removal efficiency(98.5% in 5 min) at a rate of 0.82 min^(-1),and an*OH exposure of 8.41 x 10^(-10) mol L^(-1) s.Kinetic modeling results and interface characterization data revealed that the sintering temperature could alter the TiO_(2) crystallized phase and the content of surfaceadsorbed oxygen,thus affecting the two key limiting reactions in the E-catazone process.That is,≡TiO_(2) surface reacted with H_(2) O to form TiO_(2)-(OH)_(2),which then heterogeneously catalyzed O_(3) to form *OH.Consequently,E-catazone with a TiO_(2-NF)anode prepared at 450°C generated the highest surface reaction rate(5.00 x 10^(-1) s^(-1) and 4.00 x 10^(-3) L mol^(-1) s^(-1),respectively),owing to its higher anatase content and adsorbed oxygen.Thus,a rapid O_(3)-TiO_(2) reaction was achieved,resulting in an enhanced*OH formation and a highly effective p-CBA degradation.Overall,this study provides novel baseline data to improve the application of E-catazone technology.

Madecassoside is a natural active component extracted from Centella asiatica.In recent years,a large number of studies have reported that madecassoside has a variety of biological activities,such as anticancer,anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects,prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases,nerve damage,visceral damage and arthritis,and other pharmacological effects.In this paper,the pharmacological action and mechanism of madecassoside were reviewed to provide a theoretical basis for further research of madecassoside and drug development.
