Effects of tree size and organ age on variations in carbon,nitrogen,and phosphorus stoichiometry in Pinus koraiensis

Carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)are of fundamental importance for growth and nutrient dynamics within plant organs and deserve more attention at regional to global ***,our knowledge of how these nutrients vary with tree size,organ age,or root order at the individual level remains *** determined C,N,and P contents and their stoichiometric ratios(i.e.,nutrient traits)in needles,branches,and fine roots at different organ ages(0-3-year-old needles and branches)and root orders(1st-4th order roots)from 64 Pinus koraiensis of varying size(Diameter at breast height ranged from 0.3 to 100 cm)in northeast *** factors were also *** results show that nutrient traits were regulated by tree size,organ age,or root order rather than soil *** a whole-plant level,nutrient traits decreased in needles and fine roots but increased in branches with tree *** the organ level,age or root order had a negative effect on C,N,and P and a positive effect on stoichiometric *** results demonstrate that nutrient variations are closely related to organ-specific functions and ecophysiological processes at an individual *** is suggested that the nutrient acquisition strategy by younger trees and organ fractions with higher nutrient content is for ***,nutrient storage strategy in older trees and organ fractions are mainly for steady *** results clarified the nutrient utilization strategies during tree and organ ontogeny and suggest that tree size and organ age or root order should be simultaneously considered to understand the complexities of nutrient variations.

Improving cultivated land use eco-efficiency(CLUE)can effectively promote agricultural sustainability,particularly in developing countries where CLUE is generally *** study used provincial-level data from China to evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of CLUE from 2000 to 2020 and identified the influencing factors of CLUE by using a panel Tobit *** addition,given the undesirable outputs of agricultural production,we incorporated carbon emissions and nonpoint source pollution into the global benchmark-undesirable output-super efficiency-slacks-based measure(GB-US-SBM)model,which combines global benchmark technology,undesirable output,super efficiency,and slacks-based *** results indicated that there was an upward trend in CLUE in China from 2000 to 2020,with an increase rate of 2.62%.The temporal evolution of CLUE in China could be classified into three distinct stages:a period of fluctuating decrease(2000-2007),a phase of gradual increase(2008-2014),and a period of rapid growth(2015-2020).The major grain-producing areas(MPAs)had a lower CLUE than their counterparts,namely,non-major grain-production areas(non-MPAs).The spatial agglomeration effect followed a northeast-southwest strip distribution;and the movement path of barycentre revealed a"P"shape,with Luoyang City,Henan Province,as the *** terms of influencing factors of CLUE,investment in science and technology played the most vital role in improving CLUE,while irrigation index had the most negative *** should be noted that these two influencing factors had different impacts on MPAs and ***,relevant departments should formulate policies to enhance the level of science and technology,improve irrigation condition,and promote sustainable utilization of cultivated land.

Hydraulic fracturing is a mainstream technology for unconventional oil and gas reservoirs development all over the world. How to use this technology to achieve high-level oil and gas resource extraction and how to form complex fracture networks as hydrocarbon transportation channels in tight reservoirs, which depends to a large extent on the interaction between hydraulic and pre-existing cracks. For hydraulic fracturing of fractured reservoirs, the impact of natural fractures, perforation direction, stress disturbances, faults and other influencing factors will produce a mixed I&II mode hydraulic fracture. To forecast whether hydraulic fractures cross pre-existing fractures, according to elastic mechanics and fracture mechanics, a stress state of cracks under the combination of tensile(I) and shear(II) is presented. A simple mixed-mode I&II hydraulic fracture's crossing judgment criterion is established, and the propagation of hydraulic fractures after encountering natural fractures is analyzed. The results show that for a given approaching angle there exists a certain range of stress ratio when crossing occurs. Under high approaching angle and large stress ratio, it is likely that hydraulic cracks will go directly through pre-existing cracks. The reinitiated angle is always controlled within the range of approximately 30°among the main direction of penetration.

A new online scheduling algorithm is proposed for photovoltaic(PV)systems with battery-assisted energy storage systems(BESS).The stochastic nature of renewable energy sources necessitates the employment of BESS to balance energy supplies and demands under uncertain weather *** proposed online scheduling algorithm aims at minimizing the overall energy cost by performing actions such as load shifting and peak shaving through carefully scheduled BESS charging/discharging *** scheduling algorithm is developed by using deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG),a deep reinforcement learning(DRL)algorithm that can deal with continuous state and action *** of the main contributions of this work is a new DDPG reward function,which is designed based on the unique behaviors of energy *** new reward function can guide the scheduler to learn the appropriate behaviors of load shifting and peak shaving through a balanced process of exploration and *** new scheduling algorithm is tested through case studies using real world data,and the results indicate that it outperforms existing algorithms such as Deep *** online algorithm can efficiently learn the behaviors of optimum non-casual off-line algorithms.

With increasing population and changing demographics,food consumption has experienced a significant transition in quantity and ***,a dearth of knowledge remains regarding its environmental impacts and how it responds to demographic dynamics,particularly in emerging economies like *** the two-stage Quadratic Almost Demand System(QUAIDS)model,this study empirically examines the impact of demographic dynamics on food consumption and its environmental outcomes based on the provincial data from 2000 to 2020 in *** various scenarios,according to changes in demographics,we extend our analysis to project the long-term trend of food consumption and its environmental impacts,including greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,water footprint(WF),and land appropriation(LA).The results reveal that an increase in the proportion of senior people significantly decreases the consumption of grain and livestock meat and increases the consumption of poultry,egg,and aquatic products,particularly for urban ***,an increase in the proportion of males in the population leads to higher consumption of poultry and aquatic ***,in the current scenario of an increased aging population and sex ratio,it is anticipated that GHG emissions,WF,and LA are likely to decrease by 1.37,2.52,and 3.56%,*** importantly,in the scenario adhering to the standards of nutritional intake according to the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents in 2022,GHG emissions,WF,and LA in urban areas would increase by 12.78,20.94,and 18.32%,*** findings suggest that changing demographics should be considered when designing policies to mitigate the diet-environment-health trilemma and achieve sustainable food consumption.

The mechanism involved in the phase transformation process of pyrolusite (MnO_(2)) during roasting in a reducing atmosphere was systematically elucidated in this study,with the aim of effectively using low-grade complex manganese ore *** to single-factor experiment results,the roasted product with a divalent manganese (Mn^(2+)) distribution rate of 95.30% was obtained at a roasting time of 25 min,a roasting temperature of 700℃,a CO concentration of 20at%,and a total gas volume of 500 mL·min^(-1),in which the manganese was mainly in the form of manganosite (MnO).Scanning electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller theory demonstrated the microstructural evolution of the roasted product and the gradual reduction in the pyrolusite ore from the surface to the core Thermodynamic calculations,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and X-ray diffractometry analyses determined that the phase transformation of pyrolusite followed the order of MnO_(2)→Mn_(2)O_(3)→Mn_(3)O_(4)→MnO phase by phase,and the reduction of manganese oxides in each valence state proceeded simultaneously.

The stability margin is a vital indicator for assessing the safety level of aircraft control *** should maintain sufficient stability margin to ensure safety during flight,especially in the process of large maneuver *** stability margin is generally quantified by the Bode diagram,which strictly depends on the system parameters and the open-loop transfer ***,due to the uncertain flight environments,transmission delays of sensors and mode switchings,etc.,there exist large parameter and structure uncertainties in the aircraft control systems,which make it difficult to precisely configure the stability margin to the desired value by the usual control *** address this problem,an indirect adaptive control strategy is proposed in this paper,where an adaptive PI control law with the capability of self-configuration of stability margin is *** developed control law not only achieves stable time-varying command tracking in the time domain,but also is able to automatically configure the phase margin and gain margin in the frequency ***,the simulation of the one-degree-of-freedom roll rate control model of the air vehicle verifies the validity of the proposed control method.

This paper presents a new study on modeling and optimization of trajectory and posture for the super-giant(SG)slalom of alpine *** is the first time that a Three-Rigid-Body-Particle model based on rigorous derivations and stability analysis is established to represent skiers trajectory and posture characteristics,as it is more accurate than the single-rigid-body model which is commonly used in existing *** addition,the Radau pseudospectral method is applied to solve the trajectory and posture optimization problem in order to obtain better skiing trajectory,skiing posture,and some key kinematic parameters of ***,this paper analyzes the effects of different body types,minimum turning radii,and flexor and extensor strength of knees and hip joint on skiing ***,based on the findings of the study,some advice about how to improve the performance of the SG slalom in view of science and technology is given to skiers and coaches for reference.

Urban shrinkage has attracted the attention of many geographers and urban planners in recent ***,there are fewer studies on vacant housing in shrinking ***,this study combines multi-source remote sensing images and urban building data to assess the spatiotemporal variation patterns of housing vacancy in a typical shrinking city in *** following points were obtained:(1)We developed an evaluation model to identify vacant residential buildings in shrinking cities by removing the contribution of nighttime lights from roads and non-residential buildings;(2)The residential building vacancy rate in Fushun city significantly increased from 2013 to 2020,resulting in a significant high-value clustering *** impact of urban shrinkage on vacant residential buildings was higher than that on vacant non-residential buildings;(3)The World Pop population data demonstrated consistent spatial distribution and trend of population change in Fushun with the residential building vacancy rate results,suggesting good reliability of the constructed evaluation model in this *** housing vacancies can help the local government to raise awareness of the housing vacancy problem in shrinking cities and to propose reasonable renewal strategies.
