Phenolic profile， antioxidant properties， and beneficial gut microbiota associated with freeze dried Lycium ruthenicum

Black wolfberry (Lycium ruthenicum) is enriched in phytochemical metabolites which can benefit human health. However， few studies have examined the effects of different fruit drying methods on its polyphenol content， antioxidant activity， and anti-inflammatory activity. In addition， whether and how consuming dried black wolfberry affects gut microbiota has not been reported. Here， we assessed the phytochemical profile and bioactivities of black wolfberry dried through different methods， and subsequently characterized changes in human fecal microbiota associated with freeze-dried black wolfberry in vitro. The results showed that freeze-dried samples retained higher total polyphenols (49.68 ± 1.62) mg GAE/g， tannins (38.64 ± 1.35) mg GAE/g， and proanthocyanidins (3.35 ± 0.30) mg/g compared to sun drying or hot air drying (P < 0.05)， and exhibited higher antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. In bioreactor fermentations of human fecal inoculum， freeze-dried black wolfberry was associated with increased species richness and alpha diversity. At the genus level， fermentations treated with black wolfberry had higher abundance of Lactic Acid Bacteria including Lactococcus， Bifidobacterium， Lactobacillus， Pediococcus and Weissella， as well as butyrate-producing bacteria compared to the untreated samples， suggesting enrichment for taxa associated with a healthy gut microbiome. In addition， the black wolfberry treatment group had higher levels of short-chain fatty acids， which was consistent with PICRUSt2 inference. This study defines an optimal method for black wolfberry preservation to retain the beneficial compounds， and provides a foundation for further exploration of its potential benefits for human gut microbiota.

Biomimetic proton pocket and effective interfacial modulation for zinc metal anodes

Rechargeable aqueous zinc batteries（RAZBs） offer a promising solution for large-scale energy storage due to the abundance,low cost, and safety of Zn. However, practical applications are hindered by Zn anode instability, dendrite growth, and hydrogen evolution reactions（HER）. Chaotropic Zn（ClO4）2electrolytes are favorable for low-temperature operations but exacerbate these issues due to their high acidity, leading to severe Zn corrosion and layered double hydroxide formation. We propose a biomimetic strategy using methylguanidoacetic acid（creatine） as a low-cost, eco-friendly additive to address these challenges. Creatine acts as a proton pocket to finely tune the pH of acidic Zn（ClO4）2electrolytes for suppressing HER and stabilizing the Zn ***, the formed creatinine cations adsorb on the Zn surface, promoting highly controlled Zn deposition with a preferred（002） orientation. This approach significantly enhances battery cycling performance, with Zn||Zn cells demonstrating extended cycling stability at both low and high current densities. Zn||Cu cells exhibited improved Coulombic efficiency over thousands of cycles, indicating highly reversible Zn plating/stripping. Notably, stable cell operations were realized at the temperature as low as-35°C without electrolyte freezing. Our findings highlight the potential of biomimetic proton regulation and interfacial modulation for improving the stability and reversibility of Zn plating/stripping in RAZBs.

Research progress in non-aqueous low-temperature electrolytes for sodium-based batteries

With the increasing demand and striking upsurge in the price of lithium carbonate, sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) have gained significant attentions due to their abundance over lithium-ion batteries(LIBs). Some prototype SIBs have achieved great progress in terms of energy densities. Although SIBs show a relatively higher tolerance at the low temperature than LIBs due to the weaker cation–solvent interaction, the low-temperature performance of SIBs remains a critical challenge restricted by the electrolyte solidification and sluggish interphasial kinetics. In this review, we briefly cover the latest research progress in usable low-temperature electrolytes for SIBs. In the meantime, the mitigating mechanism and low-temperature performance of the electrolytes in different SIB configurations are also discussed. The merits and demerits of ether-based and carbonate-based electrolytes are compared to demonstrate their potential and limitations, thus providing application principles for ether-based and carbonate-based electrolytes at low temperatures to maximize their advantages. Furthermore, mitigation strategies for lowtemperature electrolytes are emphasized to guide the future electrolyte design. Finally, we provide some perspectives on the development of the low-temperature electrolytes for SIBs.

Melting geodynamics reveals a subduction origin for the Purang ophiolite,Tibet,China

The debate regarding whether the Yarlung-Zangbo ophiolite(YZO)on the south of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,formed in a mid-ocean ridge(MOR)or a supra-subduction zone(SSZ)setting has remained *** we present petrological,mineralogical,and geochemical data associated with modeling melting geodynamics of the mantle peridotites from the Purang ophiolite in the western segment of the Yarlung-Zangbo Suture Zone(YZSZ)to explore its tectonic *** Purang lherzolites are characterized by the protogranular texture and have abyssal-peridotite-like mineral compositions,including low Cr^(#)(20-30)and TiO_(2) contents(<0.1wt%)in spinel,high Al_(2)O_(3)(2.9wt%-4.4wt%)and CaO(1.9wt%-3.7wt%)contents in orthopyroxene and LREE-depletion in *** of these lherzolites can be modeled by~11%dynamic melting of the DMM source with a small fraction of melt(~0.5%)entrapped within the source,a similar melting process to typical abyssal *** Purang harzburgites are characterized by the porphyroclastic texture and exhibit highly refractory mineral compositions such as high spinel Cr^(#)(40-68),low orthopyroxene Al_(2)O_(3)(<2.2wt%)and CaO(<1.1wt%)*** in these harzburgites are enriched in Sr(up to 6.0 ppm)and LREE[(Ce)N=0.02-0.4],but depleted in Ti(200 ppm,on average)and HREE[(Yb)N<2].Importantly,the more depleted samples tend to have higher clinopyroxene Sr and LREE *** observations indicate an open-system hydrous melting with a continuous influx of slab fluid at a subduction *** modeled results show that these harzburgites could be formed by 19%-23%hydrous melting with the supply rate of slab fluid at 0.1%-1%.The lower clinopyroxene V/Sc ratios in harzburgites than those in lherzolites suggest a high oxidation stage of the melting system of harzburgites,which is consistent with a hydrous melting environment for these *** is therefore concluded that the Purang ophiolite has experienced a transformat

Association between tobacco exposure and bladder cancer recurrence:A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND However,the connection between smoking and the prognosis of patients with bladder cancer remains *** To determine whether smoking is linked to the recurrence and progression of bladder *** As of July 20,2022,relevant English-language research was identified by searching PubMed,the Web of Science,and the Cochrane *** pooled the available data from the included studies using a random effects *** analysis and sensitivity analysis were also *** A total of 12 studies were included in this *** combined analysis revealed that tobacco exposure was associated with a significantly greater recurrence rate than nonsmoking status[odd ratios(OR)=1.76,95%CI:1.84-2.93],and the progression of bladder cancer was significantly greater in smokers than in nonsmokers(OR=1.21,95%CI:1.02-1.44).Stratified analysis further revealed that current smokers were more likely to experience relapse than never-smokers were(OR=1.85,95%CI:1.11-3.07).Former smokers also had a greater risk of relapse than did never-smokers(OR=1.73,95%CI:1.09-2.73).Subgroup analysis indicated that non-Caucasians may be more susceptible to bladder cancer recurrence than Caucasians are(OR=2.13,95%CI:1.74-2.61).CONCLUSION This meta-analysis revealed that tobacco exposure may be a significant risk factor for both the recurrence and progression of bladder cancer.

Objective:Heterogeneity of participants in clinical trials distorts intervention ***,factors associated with participant heterogeneity in randomized clinical trials(RCTs)focusing on systemic sclerosis(SSc)are not *** conducted this systematic review to establish normative standards for future research and help develop management ***:Three databases and 4 registries were searched to identify characteristics of SSc RCTs across different *** of bias was assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration’s tool and logistic regression was performed to calculate crude and adjusted odds ***:In total,261 trials met our inclusion *** quality of SSc RCTs worldwide was relatively poor,with no trend of improvement in recent years,and only 12.2%were ranked as having a low risk of *** with a low risk of bias as well as single-center,single-country,or open-label trials tended to have better participant adherence than trials with a high risk of bias and multiple-center,multiple-country,or double-blind ***,trial registration and primary outcome definition contributed to high *** income was also relevant;participant adherence in high-income countries,but not in upper-and lower-middle-income countries,was significantly altered by different ***:Overall,the risk of bias,national income,and trial design may lead to participant heterogeneity of SSc RCTs and ultimately confound the general clinical utility of the *** with a rigorous design and transparent conduction protocol are crucial for obtaining unbiased data that can serve as a reference and for maintaining the fundamental repeatability of SSc RCTs.
