High sensitivity C-reactive protein and cardfiac resynchronization therapy in patients with advanced heart failure

Background The data on the prognostic values of high sensitivity C-reactive protein （hsCRP） levels in patients with advanced symp-tomatic heart failure （HF） receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy （CRT） are scarce. The aim of present study was to investigate the association of serum hsCRP levels with left ventricle reverse remodeling after six months of CRT as well as long-term outcome. Methods A total of 232 CRT patients were included. The assessment of hsCRP values, clinical status and echocardiographic data were performed at baseline and after six months of CRT. Long-term follow-up included all-cause mortality and hospitalizations for HF. Results During the mean follow-up periods of 31.3 ± 31.5 months, elevated hsCRP （〉3 mg/L） prior to CRT was associated with a significant 2.39-fold increase （P=0.006） in the risk of death or HF hospitalizations. At 6-month follow-up, patients who responded to CRT showed significant reductions or maintained low in hsCRP levels （–0.5 ± 4.1 mg/L reduction） compared with non-responders （1.7 ± 6.1 mg/L increase, P=0.018）. Com-pared with patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were reduced or remained low, patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were increased or maintained high experienced a significantly higher risk of subsequent death or HF hospitalizations （Log-rank P〈0.001）. The echocardio-graphic improvement was also better among patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were reduced or remained low compared to those in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were raised or maintained high. Conclusions Our findings demonstrated that measurement of baseline and follow-up hsCRP levels may be useful as prognostic markers for timely potential risk stratification and subsequent appropriate treatment strategies in patients with advanced HF undergoing CRT.

Effect of cocaine on germ cell apoptosis in rats at different ages

Aim： To investigate the effect of cocaine on apoptosis and caspase-3 activity in germ cells in male rats at different ages. Methods： Cocaine hydrochloride was given （15 mg/kg body weight s.c.） to male Sprague-Dawley rats of 3 weeks （n = 8）, 6 weeks （n = 8） and 12 weeks （n = 8） of age, daily for 28 days. The serum levels of follicle stimulating hormone （FSH）, luteinizing hormone （LH）, prolactin （PRL）, testosterone （T） and estrogen （E2） were assayed, and the DNA fragmentation of germ cells was determined by gel eletronphoresis. The cell cycle, apoptosis and caspase-3 activity of germ cells were tested by flow cytometry. Results： After the 28-day cocaine treatment, testes weight of the 3-week-old rats, the testes and body weights of the 6-week-old rats were decreased significantly compared to those of their corresponding controls （P 〈 0.05）. The serum level of T was decreased significantly in the 3-week-old and 6-week-old rats, and the serum level of PRL was also decreased significantly in 12-week-old rats compared to the controls （P 〈 0.05）, In all the three cocaine-treated groups, the isolated DNA displayed a clear ladder pattern, especially in the 6-week old rats. The number of apoptosic germ cells increased significantly in 3- and 6- week-old rats treated with cocaine （P 〈 0.05）. The caspase-3 activity in all three groups increased significantly compared to the controls （P 〈 0.05）, especially in the 6-week-old rats. Conclusion： Cocaine exposure for 28 days leads to significant damage to male gonad and apoptosis elevation in testes of rats of different ages, especially in those of 6 weeks of age. The increase in caspase-3 activity might be a key pathway related to the early stage of apoptosis as the mechanism of cocaine-induced germ cell loss.

Hydraulic fracturing,as a key technology of deep energy exploitation,accelerates the rapid development of the modern petroleum *** study the mechanisms of hydraulic fracture propagation and rock failure mode of the vertical well hydraulic fracturing,the true triaxial hydraulic fracturing test and numerical simulation are carried out,and the influence of the principal stress difference,water injection displacement,perforation angle and natural fracture on fracture propagation is *** results show that the fracture propagation mode of limestone is mainly divided into two types:the single vertical fracture and the transverse-longitudinal crossed complex *** high displacement,the fracturing pressure is larger,and the secondary fracture is more likely to occur,while variable displacement loading is more likely to induce fracture ***,the amplitude of acoustic emission(AE)waveform of limestone during fracturing is between 0.01 and 0.02 mV,and the main frequency is maintained in the range of 230−300 *** perforation angleθ=45°,it is easy to produce the T-type fracture that connects with the natural fracture,while X-type cracks are generated whenθ=30°.The results can be used as a reference for further study on the mechanism of limestone hydraulic fracturing.

Oligomeric donor with appropriate crystallinity for organic solar cells

Improving the performance of all-small-molecule organic solar cells(ASM-OSCs)largely depends on the design and application of novel donors with appropriate *** molecular conjugation is an effective method for regulating molecular stacking and *** this work,we successfully designed and synthesized two novel acceptor-donor-donor-donor-acceptor(A-D-D-D-A)type oligomeric donors with three dithieno[2,3-d:2′,3′-d′]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene(DTBDT)as the central unit,named as 3DTBDT-Cl and 3DTBDT,depending on with and without chlorine substitution on the thiophene side *** found that the introduction of chlorine atoms makes the blend films display stronger crystallinity but with large-scale phase separation morphology and more defects,which eventually leads to a power conversion efficiency(PCE)of only 10.83%,whereas the blend films based 3DTBDT with appropriate crystallinity achieved 13.74%*** with 3DTBDT-Cl/L8-BO,the 3DTBDT/L8-BO films exhibited a nanoscale bi-continuous interpenetrating network morphology with a smaller domain size and more suitable crystallinity,which guarantees the corresponding devices obtained more efficient exciton dissociation,efficient charge transport,reduced bimolecular recombination,and performed more balanced carrier *** results demonstrated that regulating the crystallinity of oligomeric donors to obtain the desired phase separation morphology in the blend films could facilitate further improving the performance of ASM-OSCs.

Inhibiting the agglomeration of molten aluminum particles packed in the binder network is a promising scheme to achieve efficient combustion of solid *** this investigation,the hydroxyl-terminated structured fluorinated alcohol compound(PFD)was introduced to modify the traditional polyethylene glycol/polytetrahydrofuran block copolymerization(HTPE)binder;that is,a unique fluorinated polyether(FTPE)binder was synthesized by embedding fluorinated organic segments into the HTPE binder via crosslinking *** FTPE was applied in aluminum-based propellants for the first *** to the complete release of fluorinated organic active segments in the range of 300℃to 400℃,the burning rate of FTPEbased propellant increased from 4.07(0%PFD)to 6.36 mm/s(5%PFD),increased by 56.27%under 1 *** reaction heat of FTPE propellants increased from 5.95(0%PFD)to 7.18 MJ/kg(5%PFD)under 3.0 MPa,indicating that HTPE binder modified with PFD would be conducive to inhibiting the D90 of condensed combustion products(CCPs)dropped by 81.84%from 75.46(0%PFD)to 13.71μm(5%PFD)under 3.0 MPa,in consistent with the significant reduction of aluminum agglomerates observed on the quenched burning surface of the *** results demonstrated that a novel FTPE binder with PFD can release fluorinated organic active segments,which motivate preignition reaction with the alumina shell in the early stage of aluminum combustion,and then enhance the melting diffusion effect of aluminum to inhibit the agglomeration.

Background： Currently available evaluation criteria lbr penile tumescence and rigidity have been fraught with controversy. In tiffs study, we sought to establish normative Chinese evaluation criteria lbr penile tumescence and rigidity by utilizing audiovisual sexual stimulation and RigiScanTM test （AVSS-Rigiscan test） with the administration of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor. Methods： A total of 1169 patients （aged 18-67 years） complained of erectile dysfunction （ED） underwent AVSS-RigiScan test with the administration of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor. A total of 1078 patients whose final etiological diagnosis was accurate by means of history, endocrine, vascular, and neurological diagnosis, International Index of Erectile Function 5 questionnaire, and erection hardness score were included in the research. Logistic regression model and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were performed to determine the cutoffvalue of the RigiScanTM data. Then, the multivariable logistic analysis was used in the selected variables. Results： A normal restllt is defined as one erection with basal rigidity over 60% sustained for at least 8.75 rain, average event rigidity of tip at least 43.5% and base at least 50.5%, average maximum rigidity of tip at least 62.5% and base at least 67.5%, △tumescence （increase of tumescence or maxinaum-mininaum tumescence） of tip at least 1.75 cm and base at least 1.95 cm, total tumescence time at least 29.75 rain, and times of total tumescence at least once. Most importantly, basal rigidity over 60% sustained for at least 8.75 min, average event rigidity of tip at least 43.5%, and base at least 50.5% would be the new normative Chinese evaluation criteria for penile tumescence and rigidity. Vasculogenic mimicry formation in hepatocellular carcinoma

Objective： To explore possibility of vasculogenic mimicry （VM） in hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） by constructing tumor cell three-dimensional culture system and liver cancer tissues. Methods： Based on three-dimensional cell culture system developed by matrigel, liver cancer cell lines HepG2 were tested for evidence of VM. Fifteen HCC simples were collected. Potential formation of tumor channels and their characterization of network were observed by immunohistochemical and histological double staining of CD31 and PAS, or Ferritin and PAS. Results： Three-dimensional culture model of HCC cell line proved the liver cancer cells stretch out thin and long tubers at the second day, and the cells linked each other to form wreath and network structure at the seventh day. In fifteen HCC simples, endothelial cells were all stained by CD31, and tumor cells were all stained by Ferritin. The immunohistochemical and histological double staining also exhibited evidence of VM in seven simples of HCC, CD31-negative and Ferritin-positive tumor cells were observed to form tubal structure. Tumor cells were separated by PAS-positive matter like basement membrane from the tube. Red blood cells could be seen in the tube. In well-differentiated simples, VM was less than that in poorly differentiated ones, and several CD31-positive tumor cells could be observed in poorly differentiated simples. Conclusion： HepG2 cells have the capacity of self-metamorphose and vascularized trend. The tumor cells can obtain oxygen and nutrition through this structure.

A new evaluation method for site selection of large underground water-sealed petroleum storage depots

Scientific site selection is the first step in constructing underground water-sealed petroleum storage depots, but no uniform standard and code for such activity has been established. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to propose an evaluation method for the site selection of an underground water-sealed petroleum storage depot. The first large underground water-sealed petroleum storage depot being built in China served as the background of this study. The following 12 indexes were used as evaluation factors based on comprehensive evaluation criteria and specifications for key project site selection: geographic structure development feature, topographic feature, lithostratic formation feature, crustal stress, strength of rock mass, joint development feature, hydrogeological conditions, long-term water sealing conditions, environmental/ecological vulnerability, regional stability, technical and economic conditions, and meteorological and hydrological conditions. The weight back analysis and power coefficient methods were also used to evaluate the site selected for the first underground water-sealed petroleum storage depot project. Petroleum site classification models based on the two aforementioned methods were established and used to verify the feasibility of the evaluation criteria and methods, and the evaluation results show the grade of the site selected for the underground water-sealed petroleum storage depot in Huangdao, China is good. The study results may be used as a reference for the site selection of future underground water-sealed petroleum storage depots.
