A series of emission reduction measures were conducted in Wuhan,Central china,to ensure good air quality during the 7th Military World Games(MWG)in October *** better understand the implications for ozone(O_(3.)pollution control strategies,we applied integrated analysis approaches based on the de-weathered statistical model,parameterization methods,chemical box model,and positive matrix factorization *** the MWG,concentrations of O_(3.,NO_x,and volatile organic compound(VOCs),OFP(O_(3.formation potential),L_(OH)(OH radical loss rate)were 83.g/m^(3.,43.g/m^(3.,2. ppbv,188μg/m^(3.,and 3.9 s^(-1),respectively,which were 2.%,18%,3.,15%,and 13.lower than pre-MWG values and 6%,3.%,3.%,3.%,and 50%lower than post-MWG values,*** removing meteorological influence,O_(3.and its precursors during the MWG decreased largely compared with post-MWG values,and only O_(3.,NO_(2.,and oxygenated VOCs(OVOCs)declined compared with pre-MWG values,which revealed the emission reduction measures during the MWG played an important role for O_(3.*** six VOCs sources,the mass contributions of biomass burning and solvents usage during the MWG decreased largely compared with pre-MWG values.O_(3.production was sensitive to VOCs and the key species were aromatics,OVOCs,and alkenes,which originated mainly from solvents usage,biomass burning,industrial-related combustion,and vehicle *** O_(3.concentration during the strict control was mainly caused by OVOCs reduction due to biomass burning ***,the O_(3.abatement strategies of Wuhan should be focused on the mitigation of high-reactivity VOCs.

Employing the alkaline water electrolysis system to generate hydrogen holds great prospects but still poses significant challenges,particularly for the construction of hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)catalysts operating at ampere-level current ***,the unique Ru and RuP_(2.dual nano-islands are deliberately implanted on N-doped carbon substrate(denoted as Ru-RuP_(2./NC),in which a built-in electric field(BEF)is spontaneously generated between Ru-RuP_(2.dual nano-islands driven by their work function *** and theoretical results unveil that such constructed BEF could serve as the driving force for triggering fast hydrogen spillover process on bridged Ru-RuP_(2.dual nano-islands,which could invalidate the inhibitory effect of high hydrogen coverage at ampere-level current density,and synchronously speed up the water dissociation on Ru nano-islands and hydrogen adsorption/desorption on RuP_(2.nano-islands through hydrogen spillover *** a result,the Ru-RuP_(2./NC affords an ultra-low overpotential of 2.8 mV to achieve 1.0 A·cm^(−2.along with the superior stability over 1000 h,holding the great promising prospect in practical applications at ampere-level current *** importantly,this work is the first to advance the scientific understanding of the relationship between the constructed BEF and hydrogen spillover process,which could be enlightening for the rational design of the cost-effective alkaline HER catalysts at ampere-level current density.

The pan-Arctic is confronted with air pollution transported from lower *** have shown that aerosols help increase plant photosynthesis through the diffuse radiation fertilization effects(DRFEs).While such DRFEs have been explored at low to middle latitudes,the aerosol impacts on pan-Arctic ecosystems and the contributions by anthropogenic and natural emission sources remain less ***,we perform regional simulations at 0.2.×0.2.using a well-validated vegetation model(Yale Interactive terrestrial Biosphere,YIBs)in combination with multi-source of observations to quantify the impacts of aerosol DRFEs on the net primary productivity(NPP)in the pan-Arctic during *** show that aerosol DRFEs increase pan-Arctic NPP by 2.19 Pg C(12.8%)yr^(-1)under clear-sky conditions,in which natural and anthropogenic sources contribute to 8.9% and 3.9%,*** all-sky conditions,such DRFEs are largely dampened by cloud to only 0.2. Pg C(1.2.%)yr^(-1),with contributions of 0.65% by natural and 0.59% by anthropogenic *** aerosols cause a positive NPP trend of 0.02.% yr^(-1)following the increased fire activities in the *** contrast,anthropogenic aerosols induce a negative trend of-0.01% yr^(-1)due to reduced emissions from the middle *** trends in aerosol DRFEs show a turning point in the year of 2.07 with more positive NPP trends by natural aerosols but negative NPP trends by anthropogenic aerosols *** affected by modeling uncertainties,this study suggests a li{2.ly increasing impact of aerosols on terrestrial ecosystems in the pan-Arctic under global warming.

Pd-based metallic nanosheets with advanced physicochemical properties have been widely prepared and employed in various electrocatalytic ***,few concerns were focused on their multiple performances in different ***,highly curved and ultrathin PdNiRu nanosheets(NSs)are developed by facile wet-chemistry strategy and exhibit excellent electrocatalytic performance toward both oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and ethylene glycol oxidation reaction(EGOR).Owing to the synergistically structural(e.g.,ultrathin,curved,defects/steps-rich)and compositional(ternary alloy)advantages,PdNiRu NSs exhibited enhanced ORR and EGOR specific/mass activities and better stability/durability than control *** specific activity(5.52.mA·cm^(−2.)and mass activity(1.13.A·mg_(Pd)^(−1))of the PdNiRu NSs in ORR are 4.8 and 3.4 times as the ones of commercial Pt/C,*** mass activity of PdNiRu NSs(3.86 A·mg_(Pd)^(−1))in EGOR is 2.6 times as commercial Pd/C(1.51 A·mg_(Pd)^(−1)).This study is helpful for the development of desired electrocatalysts with multi-functional application in practical fuel cells.

Critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau

Scientific evidence for the upper limit of farmland is proposed. Shallow gully erosion is one of erosion types distributed extensively on sloping farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau. Field observation and aerial photos interpretation, as well as laboratory experiments show that the shallow gully erosion occurring on the steeper farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau is an important factor leading to intensive erosion on slope, because of its extensive distribution and intensive runoff collection. The data on the formation, development and distribution of shallow gullies on sloping farmland indicate that critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation ranges from 15 to 2. degrees with an average of 18.2.degrees. Therefore, it is suggested that critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau should be kept within the critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation to prevent shallow gully formation in order to control soil loss more effectively. But as the first step, the cultivation on the slopes with slope larger than 2. degrees where the maximum erosion occurs should be strictly forbidden.
