Porous media have been extensively used for the enhancement of heat transfer,due to their large specific surface area.In many cases,the flow and heat transfer in porous media are also coupled with other flow patterns,such as the channel flow.This work investigates numerically a non-isothermal three-dimensional mixing process from a rectangular channel and a porous medium to reveal the influence of the structural parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics in the coupled system.The detailed heat and momentum transport behavior at the coupled interface are analyzed at the pore-scale.Correlations of the friction factor and the Nusselt number within the porous media are proposed as functions of the Reynolds number,porosity,velocity ratio,and pore size.Results from the pore-scale simulations are also used to improve the less-cost representative-elementary-volume-scale numerical model,which can be further used for the modeling of relevant engineering problems.

Mode Purity Improvement of High-Order Vortex Waves

Vortex electromagnetic waves can carry orbital angular momentum(OAM) modes of different order number, which are mutually orthogonal. Communication technologies multiplexing different OAM topological charges have attracted extensive attention in improving spectrum utilization. In this regard, the efficient generation of OAM modes becomes a key issue. However, it is difficult to generate high-order OAM modes by using a microstrip antenna with a simple structure, and the mode purity is usually not high. Methodologically, the OAM wave of a microstrip antenna is mostly achieved by synthesizing degenerate eigenmodes. In this paper, combined with eigenmode analysis, the construction of high-order and high-purity OAM mode microstrip antennas is carried out from the perspectives of radiating element,ground plane, and structural symmetry. For a regular hexagonal patch antenna of the 4th-order OAM mode,the mode purity is improved from about 40% to over 80%by removing the inner conductor of the patch layer, using a circular ground plane, and adding lug patches on the outside. This method of improving mode purity through the analysis of mode significance and characteristic current distribution also has guiding significance for the design of other high-order OAM mode patch antennas.

The“People’s Films,”when examined from the perspective of classical aesthetics,present a unique visual style that creates artistic conceptions through sparse filming and deliver a scenery-based ideology through background shots,contributing to the overall aesthetic taste dominated by plainness.Chinese national aesthetic tastes,distinguished by implicitness,symbolism,and ethereality,have the magical power to present charming conceptions via plain and simple scenes,thus endowing the“People’s Films”with natural,plain,and harmonious frames that are unique to China.Behind the silent and plain scenes are representations of personal cultivation and essential values cherished by the Chinese people,which are achieved via the momentary presence and entirety of scenes photographed in the films,delivering an internal transcendence of people’s consciousness.

Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infections are a global public health issue.HBV covalently closed circular DNA(cccDNA),the template for the transcription of viral RNAs,is a key factor in the HBV replication cycle.Notably,many host factors involved in HBV cccDNA epigenetic modulation promote the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).The HBV cccDNA minichromosome is a clinical obstacle that cannot be efficiently eliminated.In this review,we provide an update on the advances in research on HBV cccDNA and further discuss factors affecting the modulation of HBV cccDNA.Hepatitis B virus X protein(HBx)contributes to HBV cccDNA transcription and the development of hepatocarcinogenesis through modulating host epigenetic regulatory factors,thus linking the cccDNA to hepatocarcinogenesis.The measurable serological biomarkers of continued transcription of cccDNA,the effects of anti-HBV drugs on cccDNA,and potential therapeutic strategies targeting cccDNA are discussed in detail.Thus,this review describes new insights into HBV cccDNA mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for cleaning cccDNA,which will benefit patients with liver diseases.

Vertical Diffusion Coefficient with Stratification Effect for Silty Sediment Suspension Under Waves

To analyze previous experimental data of suspended sediment concentration for silty sediment with different sediment particle sizes due to waves, a new stratification correction coefficient is presented. The suspended sediment concentration gradient and sediment particle diameter are selected as parameters. Furthermore, a diffusion coefficient model with a stratification effect over the whole water depth for silty sediment suspension under waves is developed. The comparison between the suspended sediment concentration calculated by the presented model and several groups of experimental data shows that the model can reasonably reflect the vertical distribution of silty sediment suspension.The stratification effect calculated by the present model decreases with an increase in the sediment particle diameter,which indicates that the model can be extended to describe the suspended sediment concentration of fine to medium sand when the near-bottom sediment concentration is not very high. Although the original model needs to be iteratively solved, the approximate method without iteration is recommended for applications when the near bottom sediment concentration is between 10 and 20 kg/m~3 due to the small difference between the non-iterative and iterative solution for near bed layer suspended sediment concentration, which plays a major role in sediment transport.

Histone acetyltransferase 1 serves as a succinyl transferase in tumors Protein post-translational modification(PTM)as an important research field has attracted increasing attention.Recently,our group has reported that histone acetyltransferase 1(HAT1)succinylated histones and non-histones and promoted tumorigenesis1.HAT1 plays a role in different biological processes,including cell cycle progression,glucose metabolism,histone production,and DNA damage repair2.We found that HAT1 succinylated histone H3 on K122.For a non-histone,HAT1 catalyzed the succinylation of phosphoglycerate mutase 1(PGAM1)on K99 to increase its enzyme activity,promoting glycolysis in cancer cells.Functionally,HAT1-mediated succinylation contributed to tumorigenesis.Our finding provided new insight into the mechanism of how a histone acetyltransferase HAT1 modulated succinylation during cancer development.

In order to clarify the effect of a buoyancy force on conduction–convection coupled heat transfer in a hollow cylinder, the flow and thermal characteristics were analyzed using an RNG k-ε turbulence model. The Reynolds number was fixed at 1.014 × 10^(6), and the Rayleigh number varied from 1.122 × 10^(10)to 1.088 × 10^(11). Results have shown that, when considering the effect of an opposed buoyancy force, increasing the Rayleigh number has a positive impact on the rate of change and uniformity of the cylinder temperature. The temperature distributions along the axial and circumferential directions are similar for different Rayleigh numbers, but extreme values differ.Along the axial direction, the maximum temperature is obtained at the interface between the variable-diameter part and the constant-diameter part. The maximum dimensionless temperature value decreases to 0.12 when the Rayleigh number increases to 1.088 × 10^(11). Along the circumferential direction, the temperature distribution is affected by the buoyancy force, which results in the temperature of the upper part being higher than that of the lower part. After nondimensionalization of the temperature and time, a correlation was proposed to illustrate the transient heat transfer process quantitatively. The standard deviation of the maximum relative temperature, representing the temperature uniformity, was also calculated. It was found that the difference in the direction of the buoyancy force made a huge difference. Compared with the opposed buoyancy force, the maximum dimensionless temperature is almost two times higher with an assisted buoyancy force. Similarly, the heat transfer coefficient with an assisted buoyancy force is half of that with an opposed buoyancy force. Overall, an assisted buoyancy force plays a negative role in terms of thermal characteristics. The flow field around the hollow cylinder was also illustrated to reveal the mechanism of the buoyancy force on magnitude and direction aspects.

Drug delivery to the brain is crucial in the treatment for central nervous system disorders.While significant progress has been made in recent years,there are still major challenges in achieving controllable drug delivery to the brain.Unmet clinical needs arise from various factors,including controlled drug transport,handling large drug doses,methods for crossing biological barriers,the use of imaging guidance,and effective models for analyzing drug delivery.Recent advances in micro/nanosystems have shown promise in addressing some of these challenges.These include the utilization of microfluidic platforms to test and validate the drug delivery process in a controlled and biomimetic setting,the development of novel micro/nanocarriers for large drug loads across the blood-brain barrier,and the implementation of micro-intervention systems for delivering drugs through intraparenchymal or peripheral routes.In this article,we present a review of the latest developments in micro/nanosystems for controllable drug delivery to the brain.We also delve into the relevant diseases,biological barriers,and conventional methods.In addition,we discuss future prospects and the development of emerging robotic micro/nanosystems equipped with directed transportation,real-time image guidance,and closed-loop control.
