Studies on insects have contributed significantly to a better understanding of learning and memory,which is a necessary cognitive capability for all *** the formation of memory has been studied in some model insects,more evidence is required to clarify the characteristics of memory formation,especially long-term memory(LTM),which is important for reliably storing ***,we explored this question by examining Bactrocera dorsalis,an agricultural pest with excellent learning *** the classical conditioning paradigm of the olfactory proboscis extension reflex(PER),we found that paired conditioning with multiple trials(>3)spaced with an intertrial interval(≥10 min)resulted in stable memory that lasted for at least 3 ***,even a single conditioning trial was sufficient for the formation of a 2-d *** the injection of protein inhibitors,protein-synthesis-dependent memory was confirmed to start 4 h after training,and its dependence on translation and transcription ***,the results revealed that the dependence of memory on protein translation exhibited a time-window effect(4-6 h).Our findings provide an integrated view of LTM in insects,suggesting common mechanisms in LTM formation that play a key role in the biological basis of memory.

A three-dimensional fluid model is developed to investigate the radio-frequency inductively coupled H2 plasma in a reactor with a rectangular expansion chamber and a cylindrical driver chamber,for neutral beam injection system in *** this model,the electron effective collision frequency and the ion mobility at high E-fields are employed,for accurate simulation of discharges at low pressures(0.3 Pa-2 Pa)and high powers(40 kW-100 kW).The results indicate that when the high E-field ion mobility is taken into account,the electron density is about four times higher than the value in the low E-field *** addition,the influences of the magnetic field,pressure and power on the electron density and electron temperature are *** is found that the electron density and electron temperature in the xz-plane along permanent magnet side become much more asymmetric when magnetic field ***,the plasma parameters in the yz-plane without permanent magnet side are symmetric no matter the magnetic field is applied or ***,the maximum of the electron density first increases and then decreases with magnetic field,while the electron temperature at the bottom of the expansion region first decreases and then almost keeps *** the pressure increases from 0.3 Pa to 2 Pa,the electron density becomes higher,with the maximum moving upwards to the driver region,and the symmetry of the electron temperature in the xz-plane becomes much *** power increases,the electron density rises,whereas the spatial distribution is *** can be summarized that the magnetic field and gas pressure have great influence on the symmetry of the plasma parameters,while the power only has little effect.

The nanostructured Au/AgxO/Ag sandwich multilayer films on quartz substrates are prepared by the magnetron sputtering method. The morphology, plasmon resonance and surface enhanced Raman scattering （SERS） activi- ties of the multilayer films are studied. The resonant absorption wavelength of localized surface plasmon is tuned in a wide range from 618nm to 993nm by controlling the density of nanoparticles of Au and Ag. The SERS activity of the Au/AgxO/Ag multilayer films are enhanced over -10 times compared with those of bare Ag and bare Au films. These properties may find a potential application in biosensor and bioimaging.

The harvested loquat fruits are prone to browning,leading to a decline in fruit *** activity of polyphenol oxidase(PPO)is an important way to prevent *** this study,we evaluated the inhibitory impact of oligomeric procyanidins(OPC)on hydroxylation of monophenol and oxidation of o-diphenol catalyzed by PPO and effect of OPC on loquat fruits *** obtained results revealed that OPC could attenuate the activity of monophenolase and *** monophenolase activity,the inhibition rate was observed to be dose-dependent with an IC50 of 11.6±3.4μg/mL for the steady-state *** diphenolase activity,OPC inhibited PPO activity(IC50=15.75±2.1μg/mL)with a reversible and competitive mechanism and quenched fluorescence of PPO by forming OPC-PPO complex with one binding site in a static *** addition,the data obtained from storage assays revealed that OPC could enhance the quality of harvested loquat fruits by attenuating the PPO activity,augmenting the content of total phenolics and flavonoids,and simultaneously delaying the browning of *** this research,we identified a potent PPO inhibitor and expanded its potential as a food preservative.

BACKGROUND:Readmission to intensive care unit(ICU)after discharge to ward has been reported to be associated with increased hospital mortality and longer length of stay(LOS).The objective of this study was to investigate whether ICU readmission are preventable in critically ill cancer ***:Data of patients who readmitted to intensive care unit(ICU)at National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences(CAMS)and Peking Union Medical College(PUMC)between January 2013 and November 2016 were retrospectively collected and ***:A total of 39 patients were included in the final analysis,and the overall readmission rate between 2013 and 2016 was 1.32%(39/2,961).Of 39 patients,32(82.1%)patients were judged as unpreventable and 7(17.9%)patients were *** were no significant differences in duration of mechanical ventilation,ICU LOS,hospital LOS,ICU mortality and in-hospital mortality between patients who were unpreventable and *** 24 early readmission patients,7(29.2%)patients were preventable and 17(70.8%)patients were *** who were late readmission were all *** was a trend that patients who were preventable had longer 1-year survival compared with patients who were unpreventable(100%vs.66.8%,log rank=1.668,P=0.196).CONCluSION:Most readmission patients were unpreventable,and all preventable readmissions occurred in early period after discharge to *** were no significant differences in short term outcomes and 1-year survival in critically ill cancer patients whose readmissions were preventable or not.

We analyze the spectral line broadening of those magneto-sensitive lines in solar magnetized atmospheres. The broadening at the line wings is due to the increase of the effective width of energy levels involved in Zeeman splitting,and the broadening at the line core also originated in Zeeman splitting under the condition that the Zeeman components are mixed. Therefore, the magneto-induced or Zeeman broadening take effects on the whole line. The observed Stokes parameter data in a sunspot and outside it acquired by Solar Stokes Spectrum Telescope （S^3T） are analyzed for the demonstration of this mechanism, and the Zeeman broadening rates are calculated for Fe16302.5 under some *** result shows that the broadening is increased as the magnetic field strength becomes stronger, but the rate of increase at the line core is decreased as the field strength increases, while the rate at the wing does not show such an obvious regularity. The broadening is more effective in the line core than in the wings.

BACKGROUND:Esophagectomy is a very important method for the treatment of resectable esophageal cancer,which carries a high rate of morbidity and *** study was undertaken to assess the predictive score proposed by Ferguson et al for pulmonary complications after esophagectomy for patients with ***:The data of patients who admitted to the intensive care unit after transthoracic esophagectomy at Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College between September 2008 and October 2010 were retrospectively ***:Two hundred and seventeen patients were analyzed and 129(59.4%)of them had postoperative pulmonary *** scores varied from 0 to 12 in all *** risk scores of patients with postoperative pulmonary complications were higher than those of patients without postoperative pulmonary complications(7.27±2.50 vs.6.82±2.67;P=0.203).There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications as well as in the increase of risk scores(χ2=5.477,P=0.242).The area under the curve of predictive score was0.539±0.040(95%CI 0.461 to 0.618;P=0.324)in predicting the risk of pulmonary complications in patients after ***:In this study,the predictive power of the risk score proposed by Ferguson et al was poor in discriminating whether there were postoperative pulmonary complications after esophagectomy for cancer patients.
