Preparation of Self-limiting Heating Cables with Excellent Processability, Mechanical Properties and PTC Effect via Thermal and Electrical Treatments

Polymer/conductive filler composites have been widely used for the preparation of self-limiting heating cables with the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect. The control of conductive filler distribution and network in polymer matrix is the most critical for performance of PTC materials. In order to compensate for the destruction of the filler network structure caused by strong shearing during processing, an excessive conductive filler content is usually added into the polymer matrix, which in turn sacrifices its processability and mechanical properties. In this work, a facile post-treatment of the as-extruded cable, including thermal and electrical treatment to produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/carbon black (CB) cable with excellent PTC effect, is developed. It is found for the as-extruded sample, the strong shearing makes the CB particles disperse uniformly in HDPE matrix, and 25 wt% CB is needed for the formation of conductive paths. For the thermal-treated sample, a gradually aggregated CB filler structure is observed, which leads to the improvement of PTC effect and the notable reduction of CB content to 20 wt%. It is very interesting to see that for the sample with combined thermal and electrical treatment, CB particles are agglomerated and oriented along the electric field direction to create substantial conductive paths, which leads to a further decrease of CB content down to 15 wt%. In this way, self-limiting heating cables with excellent processability, mechanical properties and PTC effect have simultaneously been achieved.

Management of limb fractures in a teaching hospital： comparison between Wenchuan and Yushu earthquakes

Objective： To comparatively analyze the medical records of patients with limb fractures as well as rescue strategy in Wenchuan and Yushu earthquakes so as to provide references for post-earthquake rescue. Methods： We retrospectively investigated 944 patients sustaining limb fractures, including 891 in Wenchuan earthquake and 53 in Yushu earthquake, who were admitted to West China Hospital （WCH） of Sichuan University. Results： In Wenchuan earthquake, WCH met its three peaks of limb fracture patients influx, on post-earthquake day （PED） 2, 8 and 14 respectively. Between PED 3-14, 585 patients were transferred from WCH to other hospitals out- side the Sichuan Province. In Yushu earthquake, the maxi- mum influx of limb fracture patients happened on PED 3, and no one was shifted to other hospitals. Both in Wenchuan and Yushu earthquakes, most limb fractures were caused by blunt strike and crush/burying. In Wenchuan earthquake, there were 396 （396/942, 42.0%） open limb fractures, includ- ing 28 Gustilo I, 201 Gustilo II and 167 Gustilo III injuries. But in Yushu earthquake, the incidence of open limb fracture was much lower （6/61, 9.8%）. The percent of patients with acute complications in Wenchuan earthquake （167/891,18.7%） was much higher than that in Yushu earthquake （5/53, 3.8%）. In Wenchuan earthquake rescue, 1 018 surgeries were done, composed of debridement in 376, internal fixation in 283, external fixation in 119, and vacuum sealing drainage in 117, etc. While among the 64 surgeries in Yushu earthquake rescue, the internal fixation for limb fracture was mostly adopted. All patients received proper treatment and sur- vived except one who died due to multiple organs failure in Wenchuan earthquake. Conclusion： Provision of suitable and sufficient medi- cal care in a catastrophe can only be achieved by construc- tion of sophisticated national disaster medical system, pre- diction of the injury types and number of injuries, and con- flrmation of participating hospit

Pseudomyxoma peritonei(PMP) is an indolent malignant syndrome. The standard treatment for PMP is cytoreductive surgery combined with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy(CRS + HIPEC). However, the high recurrence rate and latent clinical symptoms and signs are major obstacles to further improving clinical outcomes. Moreover, patients in advanced stages receive little benefit from CRS + HIPEC due to widespread intraperitoneal metastases. Another challenge in PMP treatment involves the progressive sclerosis of PMP cell-secreted mucus, which is often increased due to activating mutations in the gene coding for guanine nucleotide-binding protein alpha subunit(GNAS). Consequently, the development of other PMP therapies is urgently needed. Several immune-related therapies have shown promise, including the use of bacterium-derived non-specific immunogenic agents, radioimmunotherapeutic agents, and tumor cell-derived neoantigens, but a well-recognized immunotherapy has not been established. In this review the roles of GNAS mutations in the promotion of mucin secretion and disease development are discussed. In addition, the immunologic features of the PMP microenvironment and immune-associated treatments are discussed to summarize the current understanding of key features of the disease and to facilitate the development of immunotherapies.

Deep learning CNN-APSO-LSSVM hybrid fusion model for feature optimization and gas-bearing prediction

Conventional machine learning(CML) methods have been successfully applied for gas reservoir prediction. Their prediction accuracy largely depends on the quality of the sample data; therefore, feature optimization of the input samples is particularly important. Commonly used feature optimization methods increase the interpretability of gas reservoirs; however, their steps are cumbersome, and the selected features cannot sufficiently guide CML models to mine the intrinsic features of sample data efficiently. In contrast to CML methods, deep learning(DL) methods can directly extract the important features of targets from raw data. Therefore, this study proposes a feature optimization and gas-bearing prediction method based on a hybrid fusion model that combines a convolutional neural network(CNN)and an adaptive particle swarm optimization-least squares support vector machine(APSO-LSSVM). This model adopts an end-to-end algorithm structure to directly extract features from sensitive multicomponent seismic attributes, considerably simplifying the feature optimization. A CNN was used for feature optimization to highlight sensitive gas reservoir information. APSO-LSSVM was used to fully learn the relationship between the features extracted by the CNN to obtain the prediction results. The constructed hybrid fusion model improves gas-bearing prediction accuracy through two processes of feature optimization and intelligent prediction, giving full play to the advantages of DL and CML methods. The prediction results obtained are better than those of a single CNN model or APSO-LSSVM model. In the feature optimization process of multicomponent seismic attribute data, CNN has demonstrated better gas reservoir feature extraction capabilities than commonly used attribute optimization methods. In the prediction process, the APSO-LSSVM model can learn the gas reservoir characteristics better than the LSSVM model and has a higher prediction accuracy. The constructed CNN-APSO-LSSVM mode

Timing of internal fixation and effect on Schatzker IV-VI tibial plateau fractures

Objective： To study the effect of internal fixation performed at different times on therapeutic outcomes of Schatzker IV-VI tibial plateau fractureS. Methods： The clinical data of 42 cases ofSehatzker IV- VI tibial plateau fractures treated in our department were analyzed retrospectively. Among these 42 patients, 21 re- ceived surgical treatment within 12 h after injury, （Group I）, the other 2 [ were first treated by traction or piaster fixation followed by a delayed internal fixation after soft tissue swell- i ing subsided （Group II）. The surgical time, comPlications, length of hospital stay, cost of hospitalization, and time for i fracture union, as well as functional recovery were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results： After 10-28 months follow-up （mean 16.5 months）, except 5 cases who lost to follow-upl no differ-ences were found between the two groups regarding surgi- cal time, preoperative and postoperative complications, heal- ing time or the Hospital for Special Surgery （HSS） score at the end of follow-up, but significant differences were found in the length of hospital stay, cost of hospitalization and HSS score at 3 months after operation （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： Under certain conditions, early internal fixation for Schatzker IV-VI tibial plateau fracture is feasible, which can shorten the length of hospital stay, decrease the cost of hospitalization and promote early functional rehabilitation.

Coordinated responses of leaf and nodule traits contribute to the accumulation of N in relay intercropped soybean

Maize(Zea mays L.)-soybean(Glycine max ***.)relay intercropping provides a way to enhance land ***,the late-planted soybean suffers from shading by the *** maize harvest,how the recovery growth influences the leaf and nodule traits remains unclear.A three-year field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of genotypes,i.e.,supernodulating(nts1007),Nandou 12(ND12),and Guixia 3(GX3),and crop configurations,i.e.,the interspecific row spacing of 45(I45),60(I60),75 cm(I75),and sole soybean(SS),on soybean recovery growth and N *** results showed that intercropping reduced the soybean total leaf area(LA)by reducing both the leaf number(LN)and unit leaflet area(LUA),and it reduced the nodule dry weight(NW)by reducing both the nodule number(NN)and nodule diameter(ND)compared with the *** correlation and principal component analysis(PCA)indicated a co-variability of the leaf and nodule traits in response to the genotype and crop configuration *** the recovery growth stages,the compensatory growth promoted soybean growth to reduce the gaps of leaf and nodule traits between intercropping and *** relative growth rates of ureide(RGR_U)and nitrogen(RGR_N)accumulation were higher in intercropping than in *** achieved more significant sucrose and starch contents compared with ***12 and GX3 showed more robust compensatory growth than nts1007 in *** the recovery growth of relay intercropping soybean improved biomass and nitrogen accumulation,ND12 gained a more significant partial land equivalent ratio(pLER)than *** I60 treatment achieved more robust compensation effects on biomass and N accumulation than the other ***,I60 showed a higher nodule sucrose content and greater shoot ureide and N accumulation than ***,intercropping ND12 with maize using an interspecific row spacing of 60 cm was optimal for both yield advantage and N accumulation.

X-ray excited photodynamic therapy(X-PDT)is the bravo answer of photodynamic therapy(PDT)for deep-seated tumors,as it employs X-ray as the irradiation source to overcome the limitation of light penetration ***,high X-ray irradiation dose caused organ lesions and side effects became the major barrier to X-PDT *** address this issue,this work employed a classic-al co-precipitation reaction to synthesize NaLuF_(4):15%Tb^(3+)(NLF)with an average particle size of(23.48±0.91)nm,which was then coupled with the photosensitizer merocyanine 540(MC540)to form the X-PDT system NLF-MC540 with high production of singlet *** system could induce antitumor efficacy to about 24%in relative low dose X-ray irradiation range(0.1-0.3 Gy).In vivo,when NLF-MC540 irradiated by 0.1 Gy X-ray,the tumor inhibition percentage reached 89.5%±5.7%.The therapeutic mechanism of low dose X-PDT was found.A significant increase of neutrophils in serum was found on the third day after *** immunohistochemical staining of tumor sections,the Ly6G^(+),CD8^(+),and CD11c^(+)cells infiltrated in the tumor microenvironment were *** the bilat-eral tumor model,the NLF-MC540 with 0.1 Gy X-ray irradiation could inhibit both the primary tumor and the distant tumor ***-tected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),two cytokines IFN-γand TNF-αin serum were upregulated 7 and 6 times than negative control,*** by enzyme linked immune spot assay(ELISPOT),the number of immune cells attributable to the IFN-γand TNF-αlevels in the group of low dose X-PDT were 14 and 6 times greater than that in the negative control group,***,it conclude that low dose X-PDT system could successfully upregulate the levels of immune cells,stimulate the secretion of cy-tokines(especially IFN-γand TNF-α),activate antitumor immunity,and finally inhibit colon tumor growth.
