Highly selective adsorption of rhenium by amyloid-like protein material

Rhenium separation from molybdenum in molybdenite minerals and waste leachate has become an emerging challenge.Addressing this challenge,we prepared a set of protein-based alkylamine/alkylammonium salts complexes as extractants for selective uptake of rhenium from molybdenum,where the protein component turned into the insoluble amyloid-like structure when its internal disulfide bonds were reduced,namely phase-transition process.Among them,the phase-transited lysozyme and methyletrioctyleammonium chloride complex(PTL-N263)exhibited the most efficient adsorption at the alkaline condition for the electrostatic interaction between negatively charged metal ions with positively charged center(R_(4)N^(+))in N263,where negatively charged protein residues hindered the ion exchange of Cl^(-)in N263 for larger size Mo species(Mo_(7)O_(24)^(6-))than smaller size Re species(ReO^(4-)).The adsorption follows the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetics,which exhibits toplevel adsorption performance with a maximum adsorption capacity of 124 mg/g and a separation factor(β_(Re/Mo))of 2.78×10^(3)for Re.The adsorption capacity per unit area(57.2 mg/(g m^(2)))is 1.6–41 times higher than previously reported adsorbents,and the cost for adsorbing 1 g of Re(VII)is$1.07,indicating its industrial capability.This adsorption strategy can be applied to separating Re from Mo in binary solutions and industrial wastewater with other competing ions.

Assembly of two-dimensional(2D)metal–organic layers(MOLs)based on the hard and soft acid–base theorem represents an exquisite strategy for the construction of photocatalytic platforms in virtue of the highly exposed active sites,much improved mass transport,and greatly elevated stability.Herein,nanocages composed of MOLs are produced for the first time through a cosolvent approach utilizing zirconium-based UiO-66-(OH)2 as the structural precursor.To endow the catalytic activity for CO_(2) conversion,single atomic Co^(2+)sites are appended to the Zr-oxo nodes of the MOL cages,demonstrating a remarkable CO yield of 7.74 mmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1) and operational stability of 97.1%product retention after five repeated cycles.Such an outstanding photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed to the unique nanocage morphology comprising enormous 2D nanosheets for augmented Co^(2+)exposure and the abundant surface hydroxyl groups for local CO_(2) enrichment.This work underlines the tailoring of both metal–organic framework(MOF)morphology and functionality to boost the turnover rate of photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR).

Cuprotosis,a new type of cell death,provides great opportunities for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma,as nanocarriers of copper ions can induce cuprotosis and immunogenic death.Here,we studied an editor that enables production of a nanoparticle“storm”in oral squamous cell carcinoma,maximizing the toxic effect of these particles and reprogramming the tumor microenvironment;as a result,T cells and natural killer(NK)cells can infiltrate the tumor microenvironment to activate an antitumor immune response.On this basis,the editor can be combined with optical therapy to improve patient prognosis.In this study,the metal ratio was regulated in response to the nanocarrier of acid response type.Thus,in the presence of a specific copper ion content,the nanocarrier could change the permeability of the tumor cell membrane.Based on these results,the nanoparticles were cracked in an acidic environment and then released copper ions.Finally,the nanoparticles contributed to cuprotosis and immunogenic death.In addition,the editor could inhibit murine oral cancer 1(MOC1)tumors in C57BL/6 without toxicity.The rate of tumor growth inhibition was as high as approximately 80%.This strategy provides a new idea for immunotherapy.Moreover,it can improve the interaction between immunotherapy and the copper-induced death of oral squamous cell carcinoma.Above all,this study will provide a new opportunity for the effective treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Effectiveness of the A3 robot on lower extremity motor function in stroke patients:A prospective,randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND The results of existing lower extremity robotics studies are conflicting,and few relevant clinical trials have examined short-term efficacy.In addition,most of the outcome indicators in existing studies are scales,which are not objective enough.We used the combination of objective instrument measurement and scale to explore the short-term efficacy of the lower limb A3 robot,to provide a clinical reference.AIM To investigate the improvement of lower limb walking ability and balance in stroke treated by A3 lower limb robot.METHODS Sixty stroke patients were recruited prospectively in a hospital and randomized into the A3 group and the control group.They received 30 min of A3 robotics training and 30 min of floor walking training in addition to 30 min of regular rehabilitation training.The training was performed five times a week,once a day,for 2 wk.The t-test or non-parametric test was used to compare the threedimensional gait parameters and balance between the two groups before and after treatment.RESULTS The scores of basic activities of daily living,Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale,FM balance meter,Fugl-Meyer Assessment scores,Rivermead Mobility Index,Stride speed,Stride length,and Time Up and Go test in the two groups were significantly better than before treatment(19.29±12.15 vs 3.52±4.34;22.57±17.99 vs 4.07±2.51;1.21±0.83 vs 0.18±0.40;3.50±3.80 vs 0.96±2.08;2.07±1.21 vs 0.41±0.57;0.89±0.63 vs 0.11±0.32;12.38±9.00 vs 2.80±3.43;18.84±11.24 vs 3.80±10.83;45.12±69.41 vs 8.41±10.20;29.45±16.62 vs 8.68±10.74;P<0.05).All outcome indicators were significantly better in the A3 group than in the control group,except the area of the balance parameter.CONCLUSION For the short-term treatment of patients with subacute stroke,the addition of A3 robotic walking training to conventional physiotherapy appears to be more effective than the addition of ground-based walking training.

Reducing idleness in financial cloud services via multi-objective evolutionary reinforcement learning based load balancer

In recent years, various companies have started to shift their data services from traditional data centers to the cloud. One of the major motivations is to save on operational costs with the aid of cloud elasticity. This paper discusses an emerging need from financial services to reduce the incidence of idle servers retaining very few user connections, without disconnecting them from the server side. This paper considers this need as a bi-objective online load balancing problem. A neural network based scalable policy is designed to route user requests to varied numbers of servers for the required elasticity. An evolutionary multi-objective training framework is proposed to optimize the weights of the policy. Not only is the new objective of idleness reduced by over 130% more than traditional industrial solutions, but the original load balancing objective itself is also slightly improved. Extensive simulations with both synthetic and real-world data help reveal the detailed applicability of the proposed method to the emergent problem of reducing idleness in financial services.

Mucosal immune responses to Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in the ocular mucosa of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss,Walbaum),an ancient teleost fish

The eye,as a specialized visual organ,is directly exposed to the external environment,and,therefore,it faces constant chal-lenges from external pathogenic organisms and toxins.In the ocular mucosa(OM)of mammals,mucosal-associated lymphoid tissues(MALTs)constitute the primary line of defense.However,the immune defense role of the OM remains unknown in aquatic vertebrates.To gain insights into the immune processes within the OM of teleost fish,we developed an infection model of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)OM using a parasite,Ichthyophthirius multifiliis(Ich).Immunofluorescence,qPCR,and H&E staining revealed that Ich successfully infiltrates the OM of rainbow trout,leading to pathological struc-tural changes,as evidenced by A&B staining.Importantly,the qPCR results indicate an up-regulation of immune-related genes following Ich infection in the OM.Moreover,transcriptome analyses were conducted to detect immune responses and impairments in eye function within the OM of rainbow trout with Ich infection.The results of the transcriptome analysis that Ich infection can cause an extensive immune response in the OM,ultimately affecting ocular function.To the best of our knowledge,our findings represent for the first time that the teleost OM could act as an invasion site for parasites and trigger a strong mucosal immune response to parasitic infection.

We investigate the behavior of the extension dimension of subcategories of abelian categories under recollements.LetΛ',Λ,Λ"be art in algebras such that(modΛ',mod A,modΛ")is a recollement,and let D'and D"be subcategories of modΛand modΛ"respectively.For any n,m≥0,under some conditions,we get dimΩ^(k)(D)≤dimΩ^(n)(D')+dimΩ^(m)(D")+1,where k=max{m,n}and D is the subcategory of modΛglued by D'and D";moreover,we give a sufficient condition such that the converse inequality holds true.As applications,some results for Igusa-Todorov subcategories and syzygy finite sub categories are obtained.

Text generation is an essential research area in artificial intelligence(AI)technology and natural language processing and provides key technical support for the rapid development of AI-generated content(AIGC).It is based on technologies such as natural language processing,machine learning,and deep learning,which enable learning language rules through training models to automatically generate text that meets grammatical and semantic requirements.In this paper,we sort and systematically summarize the main research progress in text generation and review recent text generation papers,focusing on presenting a detailed understanding of the technical models.In addition,several typical text generation application systems are presented.Finally,we address some challenges and future directions in AI text generation.We conclude that improving the quality,quantity,interactivity,and adaptability of generated text can help fundamentally advance AI text generation development.

A Comparative Study of the Power-law Relationship between the Pulse width and Energy of Precursor and Main Burst

In gamma-ray burst prompt emission,there is still no consistent conclusion if the precursor and main burst share the same origin.In this paper,we try to study this issue based on the relationship between pulse width and energy of the precursor and main burst.We systematically search the light curve data observed by Swift/BAT and Fermi/GBM,and find 13 long bursts with well-structured precursors and main bursts.After fitting the precursor light curve of each different energy channel with the Norris function,we find that there is not only a power-law relationship between precursor width and energy,but also a power-law relationship between the ratio of the rising width to the decaying width and energy.By comparing the relationship between the precursors and the main burst pulses,we find that the distribution of the precursors and the relationship between the power-law indices are roughly the same as those of the main burst.In addition,it is found that the precursor width distribution as well as the upper limit of the pulse width ratio does not exceed 1 and both are asymmetric,which are also consistent with the main burst.These indicate that the precursor and the main burst are indistinguishable,and the precursor and the main burst may have the same physical origin.

Composite ceramic phosphor(CCP)is a candidate light-conversion material to obtain the high-quality laser lighting source.Phosphors based on the transmissive configuration model could not simultaneously meet the requirements of angular color uniformity and high thermal stability.In this study,a novel composite structure ceramic was designed,including Al_(2)O_(3)-YAG:Ce/YAG layered ceramic with a size of 1 mm×1 mm for lighting,and Al_(2)O_(3) ceramic(φ=16.0 mm)was used as the wrapping material due to its outstanding thermal stability.The prepared ceramics exhibited excellent thermal performance and no yellow ring phenomenon.Through this design,we achieved the match of the intensity distribution of the blue and yellow lights,resulting in a high angular color uniformity of 0.9 with a view angle of±80°.All ceramics showed no luminous saturation phenomenon,even the laser power density was increased up to 47.51 W/mm^(2).A high-brightness white-light source with a luminous flux of 618 lm,a luminous efficiency of 126 lm/W,a CCT of 6615 K,and a CRI of 69.9 was obtained in the transmissive configuration.In particular,the surface temperature of the ceramic was as low as 74.1℃ under a high laser radiation(47.51 W/mm^(2)).These results indicate that Al_(2)O_(3)/Al_(2)O_(3)-YAG:Ce/YAG composite structure ceramic is a promising luminescent material in the high-power laser lighting applications.
