Effect of Same-dose Single or Dual Field Irradiation on Damage to Miniature Pig Parotid Glands

Aim To evaluate the effect of single or dual field irra- diation （IR） with the same dose on damage to miniature pig parotid glands. Methodology Sixteen miniature pigs were divided into two IR groups （n=6） and a control group （n=4）. The irradi- ation groups were subjected to 20 Gy X-radiation to one parotid gland using single-field or dual-field modality by linear accelerator. The dose-volume distributions between two IR groups were compared. Saliva from parotid glands and blood were collected at 0, 4, 8 and 16 weeks after irradiation. Parotid glands were removed at 16 weeks to evaluate tissue morphology.Results The irradiation dose volume distributions were significantly different between single and dual field irradi- ation groups （t----4.177, P=0.002）, although dose volume histogramin （DVH） indicated the equal maximal dose in parotid glands. Saliva flow rates from IR side decreased dramatically at all time points in IR groups, especially in dual field irradiation group. The radiation caused changes of white blood cell count in blood, lactate dehydrogenase and amylase in serum, calcium, potassium and amylase in saliva. Morphologically, more severe radiation damage was found in irradiated parotid glands from dual field irradi- ation group than that from single field irradiation group. Conclusion Data from this large animal model demons- trated that the radiation damage from the dual field irradiation was more severe than that of the single field irradiation at the same dose, suggesting that dose-volume distribution is an important factor in evaluation of the radiobiology of parotid glands.

Synthesis,Characterization and Non-linear Optical Properties of a New Organic Dye:DEAHAS

Trans-4- (N-2-hydroxyethyl-N-ethyl amino)-4ˊ-(diethyl amino)stilbene (DEAHAS) has been synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR, IR and elemental analysis. Linear absorption, single-photon induced fluorescence and two-photon induced fluorescence are experimentally studied. DEAHAS has an effective two-photon absorption cross-sections ofσ2 = 1.19×10-46 cm4·s/photon at 532 nm by using an open aperture Z-scan technique and exhibits a strong two-photon induced blue fluorescence of 430 nm when pumped with 800 nm laser irradiation.

Coherent Beam Combining of Two Slab Laser Amplifiers and Second-Harmonic Phase Locking Based on a Multi-Dithering Technique

Coherent beam combining(CBC)is an efficient way to scale the brightness of laser *** demonstrate the active phase locking CBC of two slab laser amplifiers based on the multi-dithering *** experimental investigation on the 102 W coherent beam combining of two slab amplifiers shows that the whole system in a closed loop performs well over a long time *** contrast of the coherent combined beam profile is about 87%and the combining efficiency is nearly 85%.In addition,the CBC of two green lasers is realized based on the second-harmonic generation of the phase locking pump *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report about second-harmonic active phase locking,which indicates further potential applications of CBC.

Elevated serum uric acid level as a predictor for cardiovascu-lar and all-cause mortality in Chinese patients with high cardiovascular risk

Objective To assess the predictive value of serum uric acid levels for cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in a large prospective population based *** The study was based on 3648 participants in Shanghai and Beijing,who were inpatients with high cardiovascular(CV) risk at baseLine (2004.7 to 2005.1),and blood was ***-up for death from cardiovascular disease and any cause was complete until January 1,*** The mean follow-up was 1 *** were 303 deaths during follow-up,of which 121 were *** mortality rates were 8.3 % for all patients,6.8% for female patients (116/1715),and 9.7% (187/1933) for male *** men,patients in the lower and higher uric acid groups had increased cardiac and overall mortality risks compared with patients in the normal uric acid *** relation was found in women but not statistically *** adjusting for other conventional risk factors (age,diabetes,hypertension,diuretic use and smoking),baseline uric acid level was still associated with increased risk for death from cardiovascular disease (P=0.005),or death from all causes (P=0.014) Conclusion Our data suggest that abnormal serum uric acid levels are independently and significantly associated with risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2008;5:15-20)

Simulation and detection of the topological properties of a modulated Rice-Mele model in a one-dimensional circuit-QED lattice

Here, we propose a simple scheme to realize a one-dimensional （1D） modulated Rice-Mele model （RMM） and investigate its topological properties with a 1D circuit quantum electrodynamics （QED） lattice. The system can be mapped into a Chern insulator model by introducing a period parameter. Interestingly and surprisingly, we found that the circuit-QED lattice system always exhibits topologically nonttrvial phases if both the nearest-neighbor hopping strength between two resonators and the qubitassisted on-site potentials are alternately changed in the direction of the lattice. The numerical results show that the topological phases can be obtained by introducing an additional modulation parameter and both the edge state and topological invariant can be unambiguously seen with the existence of decay and disorders, even with few resonators in the lattice.

Micro-gyroscopes using micro-electro-mechanical system(MEMS)and micro-optoelectro-mechanical system(MOEMS)are the new-generation and recently well-developed gyroscopes produced by the combinations of the traditional gyroscope technology and MEMS/MOEMS *** to the working principle and used materials,the newly-reported micro-gyroscopes in recent years include the silicon-based micromechanical vibratory gyroscope,hemispherical resonant gyroscope,piezoelectric vibratory gyroscope,suspended rotor gyroscope,microfluidic gyroscope,optical gyroscope,and atomic *** to different sensitive structures,the silicon-based micromechanical vibratory gyroscope can also be divided into double frame type,tuning fork type,vibrating ring type,and nested ring *** those micro-gyroscopes,in recent years,many emerging techniques are proposed and developed to enhance different aspects of performances,such as the sensitivity,angle random walk(ARW),bias instability(BI),and ***,this paper will firstly review the main performances and applications of those newly-developed MEMS/MOEMS gyroscopes,then comprehensively summarize and analyze the latest research progress of the micro-gyroscopes mentioned above,and finally discuss the future development trends of MEMS/MOEMS gyroscopes.

Biological Cycles of Mineral Elements in a Young Mixed Stand in Abandoned Mining Soils

Phytoremediation as a sustainable and inexpensive technology based on the removal of pollutants from the environment by plants is becoming an increasingly important objective in plant research. In this study, biological cycles of five nutrient elements （N, P, K, Ca, and Mg） and eight heavy metal elements （Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and Co） were examined in young paniculed goldraintree （Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm） and common elaeocarpus （Elaeocarpus decipens） mixed stands in an abandoned mining area. We found that after vegetation restoration in abandoned mining areas, the organic matter and concentrations of nutrient elements were significantly increased and the heavy metal elements were significantly decreased, the annual retention, uptake and return were 75.0, 115.4, and 40.3 kg/hm^2 for nutrient elements, and 1 878.0, 3 231.0 and 1 353.0 g/hm^2 for heavy metal elements, respectively, with the utilization coefficient, cycling coefficient and turnover rate of 0.92, 0.35 and 0.32 for nutrient elements, and 1.24, 0.42 and 1.92 for heavy metal elements, respectively. Our results suggested that the vegetation restoration in abandoned mining areas had significant effects in improving environmental conditions, enhancing soil available nutrients, and ensuring human health.

The tin atom in the structure of tile complex exists in a dis tored octahedral geomelry defined by three CI atoms, the C and O atoms of a chelating methoxycarbonylethyl group as well as an O atom derived from the Schiff base ligand.

Phase-matching enhanced quantum phase and amplitude estimation of a two-level system in a squeezed reservoir

Squeezed reservoir engineering is a powerful technique in quantum information that combines the features of squeezing and reservoir engineering to create and stabilize non-classical quantum states. In this paper, we focus on the previously neglected aspect of the impact of the squeezing phase on the precision of quantum phase and amplitude estimation based on a simple model of a two-level system(TLS) interacting with a squeezed reservoir. We derive the optimal squeezed phase-matching conditions for phase φ and amplitude θ parameters, which are crucial for enhancing the precision of quantum parameter estimation. The robustness of the squeezing-enhanced quantum Fisher information against departures from these conditions is examined, demonstrating that minor deviations from phase-matching can still result in remarkable precision of estimation. Additionally, we provide a geometric interpretation of the squeezed phase-matching conditions from the classical motion of a TLS on the Bloch sphere. Our research contributes to a deeper understanding of the operational requirements for employing squeezed reservoir engineering to advance quantum parameter estimation.

Comparative study of the clinical efficacy of all-inside and traditional techniques in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

BACKGROUND Many studies have focused on the femoral tunnel technique and fixation method,but few studies have involved the tibial tunnel technique and fixation *** all-inside technique is one of the new techniques that has been described in recent ***-inside anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)reconstruction is based on a tibial socket instead of a full *** method has many potential *** To compare clinical outcomes of knee ACL autograft reconstruction using allinside quadrupled semitendinosus(AIST)and traditional hamstring tendon(TBT)*** From January 2017 to October 2019,the clinical data of 80 patients with ACL reconstruction were retrospectively analyzed,including 67 males and 13 *** patients had an average age of 24.3±3.1 years(age range:18-33 years).The AIST technique was used in 42 patients and the TBT technique was used in 38 *** time between operation and injury,operative duration,postoperative visual analogue scale(VAS)score and knee functional recovery were recorded and compared between the two *** International Knee Documentation Committee(IKDC)and Lysholm scoring system were used to comprehensively evaluate clinical *** Eighty patients were followed for 24-36 mo,with an average follow-up duration of 27.5±1.8 *** were no significant differences in the time between surgery and injury,operative duration,IKDC and Lysholm scores of the affected knee at the last follow-up evaluation between the two *** were significant differences in VAS scores 1 d,3 d,7 d,2 wk and 1 mo after surgery(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in VAS score at 3 mo,6 mo and 1 year after *** The efficacy of the AIST ACL reconstruction technique was comparable to the TBT technique,but the postoperative pain was less with the AIST ***,the AIST technique is an ideal treatment choice for ACL reconstruction.
