It was proposed that a new class of alloys based on platinum group metals (PGMs) were called refractory superalloys. These refractory superalloys have an fcc and L12 coherent two-phase structure (similar to that of Ni-based superalloys), high melting temperatures and good potential as structural materials used at temperatures up to 1800 ℃. Our recent results on the microstruc-ture evolution, deformation and fracture behavior of some of these refracotry superalloys, especial Ir- and Rh-base refractory superalloys were reported.

The reaction between diphenylmethanols and substituted benzenes is useful to yield triarylmethane derivatives which are important skeletons in various functional materials and biologically relevant substances. The Reactions were carried out under microwave irradiation as environmentally-friendly method. In cyclohexane, the reaction was accelerated under microwave irradiation as compared to under conventional heating. Also, when more than 0.8 equivalents of iron(III) chloride were used, the acceleration was observed. Notably, when iron(III) chloride and arenes were combined, the temperature of the reaction solution rose to 40°C. It is considered that a chemical species was formed upon coordination of iron(III) chloride to the diphenylmethanols or arenes.

Nutritional management and suitable weight control during pregnancy are very important. However, in clinical practice, it is difficult to determine in detail precisely what pregnant women are eating. We investigated nutritional balance and nutritional requirements in pregnant women and their relationship to the course of pregnancy. A Food Frequency Questionnaire Based on Food Groups (FFQg) was distributed to 223 women at 12 weeks gestation attending one obstetrics clinic. We observed the women’s statuses until delivery and obtained information on pregnancy, delivery, and newborn from their medical records. One hundred and forty-seven (65.9%) of the subjects had problem-free pregnancies. Only 2 (0.9%) subjects developed pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome. Participants were classified by pre-pregnancy BMI (body mass index;kg/m2) as follows: 44 (19.7%) were underweight (BMI the three groups. However, the underweight group consumed significantly more fat than the normal group and gained significantly more weight before delivery than the others. Blood pressure was significantly higher in the overweight group than in the other groups at some points of gestation, although it remained within the normal range. Fat intake overall was more than the recommended value, especially in the underweight group. The relationship between course of pregnancy and nutritional intake was unclear. However, pre-pregnancy BMI may influence the course of pregnancy in terms of infant weight, gestational weight gain, and blood pressure.

During the Mw9 Tohoku-Oki earthquake, gradual increases in both ionosphere total electron content (TEC) and geomagnetic declination signals were observed, starting from ~40 minutes before the mainshock, followed by impulsive enhancements ~10 minutes after the mainshock. There have been many studies on pre-seismic TEC enhancements, including their characteristics, debates regarding whether TEC anomalies are real signals or artefacts, and the explainable models, and many studies have reported that the impulsive TEC enhancement was caused by a tsunami-induced neutral atmospheric gravity wave. Since TEC and geomagnetic declination anomalies were synchronized so that their origin should be attributed to the same seismic activities, any models must explain both anomalous phenomena, but not the case considered herein. Compared with the corresponding TEC anomalies, we re-examined the characteristics of geomagnetic variation just before and after the mainshock, focusing on the generation process of the impulsive enhancement immediately after the mainshock. We showed that the observed anomaly could be explained if there are quasi-static electric currents of 20 - 30 kA generated near the epicentre area. The possible mechanism of the current generation is discussed in terms of the ionization process in the atmosphere near the sea surface.

Background: Few investigations have focused on nursing students from a developing country in relation to a developed country like Japan. Objective: This study explored differences between the nursing students in Madagascar and Japan. Subjects and Methods: This is a prospective analytical study of 63 nursing students—32 Japanese and 31 Malagasy. Questionnaires were distributed to students in Madagascar and Japan in 2010 and collected for statistical analysis. Results: Malagasy students tended to think that nursing plays a psychological role, and they have positive view for this function. In contrast, Japanese students tended to think that nursing is physical work and they make a point of its outcome and the need for social and economic guarantees. Conclusion: The nursing students in Madagascar and Japan expressed different views and goals. While several factors may be involved in these differences, their distinct medical situations are most likely the major contributor.
