Geochemistry of a paleosol horizon at the base of the Sausar Group,central India： Implications on atmospheric conditions at the Archeane Paleoproterozoic boundary

A paleosol horizon is described from the contact of the Sausar Group（w2400 Ma） and its basement（Tirodi Gneiss; 〉2500 Ma） in Central India. Physical evidence of pedogenesis is marked by the development of stress corrosion cracks, soil peds, corestone weathering and nodular rocks. XRD and SEM-EDX data indicate the presence of siderite, ankerite, uraninite, chlorite, alumino-silicate minerals, ilmenite,rutile and magnetite, in addition to quartz, feldspar and mica. The chemical index of alteration, the plagioclase index of alteration, and the chemical index of weathering show an increasing trend from parent rock to the paleosol and indicate a moderate trend of weathering. The A-CN-k plot indicates loss of feldspars, enrichment in Al2O3 and formation of illite. Different major element ratios indicate baseloss through hydrolysis, clay formation, leaching of some elements, and more precipitation with good surface drainage. The paleosol is depleted in HREE in comparison to the parent rock indicating high fluid-rock interaction during weathering. The paleosol samples show flat Ce and Eu anomalies, low SREE, and high（La/yb）N, indicative of a reducing environment of formation. Reducing condition can also be inferred from the concentration of elements such as V, Co, Cu, Pb, and Zn in the paleosol profile. Although enriched in Fe and Mg, the overall geochemical patterns of the paleosol indicate oxygen deficient conditions in the atmosphere and development by weathering and leaching processes associated with high precipitation and good surface drainage at the time of development of this paleosol during the Archeane Paleoproterozoic transition.

We carried out an ethno-medico-biological investigation in the interior of Bhadrak district, Odisha, India to explore the therapeutic use of traditional plants/animals by local inhabitants. The villagers and rural people used plant and animal species as medicine. We recorded therapeutic use of 18 plant species of 13 families and 12 animal species of seven taxonomic categories. Different plant/animal parts like bark, leaf, flower, seed, stem, root, whole plant, oil, blood, milk, urine and flesh were reported as used in raw or cooked form against 17 specific diseases. Prominent diseases treated by plant/animal remedies were asthma, cardiovascular ailments, diabetes, epilepsy, jaundice, malaria, skin disorder and rheumatism. This study provides a better database for future studies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed sex-based differences in anti-viral responses,with a higher rate of SARS-CoV-2 infections as well as a higher rate of morbidity and mortality in men than in *** and females also show disparate immune responses to COVID-19 infection,which may be important contributors to lower rates of infection,disease severity and deaths in women than in ***,the authors review sex differences in SARS-CoV-2 infections,anti-viral immunity and vaccine responses,putting forth the importance of sex,the underappreciated variables in vaccine response and disease infectivity.

Co-pyrolysis of waste biomass and waste plastics(polystyrene and waste nitrile gloves)into renewable fuel and value-added chemicals

The present study addresses the influence of blending of waste plastics(i.e.,polystyrene,PS and waste nitrile gloves,WNG)with mahua seeds(MH)for co-pyrolytic liquid yield and its fuel *** blends of waste plastics were mixed with biomass(10,20 and 30 wt%)and pyrolyzed in a semi-batch reactor at an optimized environment(550℃ temperature,80℃ min^(-1) heating rate,and 100 mL min^(-1) N_(2) flow rate).Physicochemical results displayed its ability to yield renewable fuel and valuable ***-pyrolysis outcomes showed that blending of waste plastics at 20 wt%,yielded maximum liquid(44.18±1.2 wt%and 45.89±1.4 wt%for MH+WNG and MH+PS respectively)which was higher than thermal pyrolysis of individual MH(39.26±1.2 wt%).Further,characterization results revealed a substantial reduction in viscosity,oxygen content,moisture,and a positive increment in gross heating value,carbon content and *** examination exposed the attendance of mainly aromatics,acids,phenols,water,esters and ***,NMR analysis of pyrolytic oil confirmed an increase in aromaticity by blending of waste plastics(20 wt%)while there was a reduction in paraffinic ***-MS investigation revealed substantial improvement in hydrocarbons and minimization in the oxygen-rich products by blending of waste plastics at 20 wt%.

Ce-substituted Lithium Ferrite:Preparation and Electrical Relaxation Studies

Ce-substituted lithium ferrite, Li0.5CexFe2.5-x04 （x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1 ） compositions were synthesized from metal nitrates and citric acid by the solution combustion process by keeping the oxidizer to fuel ratio at unity. The thermal decomposition process was investigated by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, which showed a stable phase formation above 600 ℃. The phase composition and molecular bonding of Li0.5CexFe2.5_x04 were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, respectively. An extensive study of electrical relaxation process has been represented with impedance and modulus as a function of frequency at different temperatures. The activation energy obtained from both the formalisms was found to be equal within the error. The dc conductivity and hopping frequency were thermally activated and their activation energies were found to be in the range of 0.69-0.64 eV for x = 0.05. The scaling of modulus and impedance were used to understand the electrical relaxation behaviour of the compositions and they suggest the time temperature superposition principle.

This study investigated the hot corrosion performance of a dissimilar weldment of Ni-based superalloy and stainless steel joined by CO2-laser welding and improved by high-velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF)coating in a Na2SO4-60wt%V2O5 environment at 900℃.A dissimilar butt joint of AISI 321 and alloy 825 was fabricated by CO2-laser welding with low heat input after obtaining the optimum welding parameters by bead-on-plate *** metallurgical and mechanical properties of the laser weldment were *** tensile test results indicated the occurrence of fracture in the base metal AISI 321 *** HVOF process was employed to coat Ni-20wt%Cr on the *** evaluate the surface morphology of the corrosion products formed on the uncoated and Ni-20wt%Cr-coated weldments,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis was ***-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)was used to determine the different elements present on the surface *** existence of oxide phases on the weldments was determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The cross sections of the weldments were characterized by SEM with EDS line mapping *** results indicated that the Ni-20wt%Cr-coated weldment exhibited superior hot corrosion resistance due to the development of Cr2O3 and NiCr2O4 protective oxide scales.

Effect of recombinant and native buffalo OVGP1 on sperm functions and in vitro embryo development: a comparative study

Background： An oviduct-specific glycoprotein, OVGP1, is synthesized and secreted by non-ciliated epithelial cells of the mammalian oviduct which provides an essential milieu for reproductive functions. The present study reports the effects of recombinant buffalo OVGP1 that lacks post-translational modifications, and native Buffalo OVGP1 isolated from oviductal tissue, on frozen-thawed sperm functions and in vitro embryo ***： The proportion of viable sperms was greater（P 〈 0.05） in the recombinant OVGP1-treated group compared to the native OVGP1-treated group at 2 h, 3 h, and 4 h of incubation. The proportion of motile sperms at3 h and 4 h of incubation; and membrane-intact sperms at 4 h was greater（P 〈 0.05） in the native OVGP1-treated group compared to the control and recombinant OVGP1-treated groups. The proportion of capacitated and acrosome-reacted sperms was greater（P 〈 0.05） in the native OVGP1-treated group compared to the recombinant OVGP1 group at 4 h. The rates of cleavage of embryos and their development to the blastocyst stage were greater（P 〈 0.05） in the presence of either native or recombinant OVGP1 in comparison to control at 10 μg/mL concentration as compared to 5 or 20 μg/***： The study suggests that both native and recombinant OVGP1 impart a positive effect on various sperm features and in vitro embryo development. However, native OVGP1 was found to have a more pronounced effect in comparison to recombinant non-glycosylated OVGP1 on various sperm functions except viability. Hence,our current findings infer that glycosylation of OVGP1 might be essential in sustaining the sperm functions but not the in vitro embryo development.

In silico methods for linking genomic space to chemical space have played a crucial role in genomics driven discovery of new natural products as well as biosynthesis of altered natural products by engineering of biosynthetic *** we give an overview of available computational tools and then briefly describe a novel computational framework,namely retro-biosynthetic enumeration of biosynthetic reactions,which can add to the repertoire of computational tools available for connecting natural products to their biosynthetic gene *** of the currently available bioinformatics tools for analysis of secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters utilize the“Genes to Metabolites”*** contrast to the“Genes to Metabolites”approach,the“Metabolites to Genes”or retro-biosynthetic approach would involve enumerating the various biochemical transformations or enzymatic reactions which would generate the given chemical moiety starting from a set of precursor molecules and identifying enzymatic domains which can potentially catalyze the enumerated biochemical *** this article,we first give a brief overview of the presently available in silico tools and approaches for analysis of secondary metabolite biosynthetic *** also discuss our preliminary work on development of algorithms for retro-biosynthetic enumeration of biochemical transformations to formulate a novel computational method for identifying genes associated with biosynthesis of a given polyketide or nonribosomal peptide.

Population I Cepheids and understanding star formation history of the Small Magellanic Cloud

In this paper, we study the age and spatial distributions of Cepheids in the Small Magellanic Cloud （SMC） as a function of their ages using data from the OGLE III photometric catalogue. A period - age relation derived for Classical Cepheids in the Large Magellanic Cloud （LMC） has been used to find the ages of Cepheids. The age distribution of the SMC Classical Cepheids is found to have a peak at log（Age）： 8.40 ± 0.10 which suggests that a major star formation event might have occurred in the SMC about 250 4- 50 Myr ago. It is believed that this star forming burst had been triggered by close interactions of the SMC with the LMC and/or the Milky Way. A comparison of the observed spatial distributions of the Cepheids and open star clusters has also been carried out to study the star formation scenario in the SMC.
