Broken and cracked eggshells cause major economic losses to the egg production industry. An F2 population of 262 hens obtained by crossing a strong egg shell line with a weak egg shell line of the White Leghorn breed was used for detecting the quantitative trait loci （QTL） affecting eggshell quality. The 2 lines were developed from the same founder population by two-way selection for egg shell strength with nondestructive deformation. Of the 1 014 microsatellite markers tested, 35 were mapped on 10 autosomal linkage groups. There was no informative marker on chromosome Z. The QTLs associated with 7 traits, i.e., body weight, short length of egg, long length of egg, eggshell strength, eggshell thickness （EST）, eggshell weight （ESW）, and egg weight （EW）, were identified. Highly significant （P〈0.01） QTLs associated with EST and ESW and a significant （P〈 0.05） QTL associated with EW were mapped to a region flanking ABR0545 and ABR0362 on chromosome 9. These QTLs are good candidates to be employed in the development of strategies for reducing the number of broken and cracked eggs in commercial layer houses by employing marker assisted selection.

AIM To investigate β-catenin(CTNNB1) signaling in cancer and stem cells, the gene expression and pathway were analyzed using *** The expression of the catenin β 1(CTNNB1) gene, which codes for β-catenin, was analyzed in mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) and gastric cancer(GC) cells. Beta-catenin signaling and the mutation of related proteins were also analyzed using the cB ioP ortal for Cancer Genomics and HOMology modeling of Complex Structure(HOMCOS) *** The expression of the CTNNB1 gene was up-regulated in GC cells compared to MSCs. The expression of EPH receptor A8(EPHA8), synovial sarcoma translocation chromosome 18(SS18), interactor of little elongation complex ELL subunit 1(ICE1), patched 1(PTCH1), mutS homolog 3(MSH3) and caspase recruitment domain family member 11(CARD11) were also shown to be altered in GC cells in the cB ioP ortal for Cancer Genomics analysis. 3D complex structures were reported for E-cadherin 1(CDH1), lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1(LEF1), transcription factor 7 like 2(TCF7L2) and adenomatous polyposis coli protein(APC) with β-catenin. CONCLUSION The results indicate that the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)-related gene CTNNB1 plays an important role in the regulation of stem cell pluripotency and cancer signaling.

Robotic hepatectomy remains controversial to date,despite continuous advances in the technology and more surgeons gaining experience with the *** et al.(1)recently published an interesting article in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition,titled"Selecting incision-dominant cases for robotic liver resection:towards outpatient hepatectomy with rapid recovery."The authors evaluated 97 cases of robotically-assisted liver resection(RLR)arguing that it is difficult to reach the superior-posterior liver segments with the straight instruments used in conventional laparoscopic liver resection(LLR).The articulated instruments of the surgical robot are better suited for hepatectomies in these difficult-to-reach areas of the *** concluded that cases where the incision of an open approach would be large and affect recovery results in the highest likelihood of patients benefitting from a robotic *** think that the authors present an interesting perspective by focusing on the strong points of RLR compared to LLR.

The extracellular matrix of trabecular bone has a large surface exposed to the bone marrow and plays important roles such as hematopoietic stem cell niche formation and *** vitro reproduction of trabecular bone microenvironment would be valuable not only for developing a functional scaffold for bone marrow tissue engineering but also for understanding its biological ***,we analyzed and reproduced the initial stages of trabecular bone formation in mouse femur *** identified that the trabecular bone formation progressed through the following steps:(i)partial rupture of hypertrophic chondrocytes;(ii)calcospherite formation on cell membrane nano fragments(CNFs)derived from the ruptured cells;and(iii)calcospherite growth and fusion to form the initial three-dimensional(3D)structure of trabecular *** reproducing the initial trabecular bone formation in vitro,we collected CNFs from cultured cells and used as nucleation sites for biomimetic calcospherite ***,almost the same 3D structure of the initial trabecular bone could be obtained in vitro by using additional CNFs as a binder to fuse biomimetic calcospherites.

针对地质聚合物固化Se(Ⅵ)、Cr(Ⅵ)等含氧阴离子效率低的问题,研究了Ca、Mg、Fe(Ⅱ)盐对地质聚合物固化Se(Ⅵ)、Cr(Ⅵ)的作用机制。结果表明:无添加剂作用的地质聚合物固化体Se或Cr浸出量可高达60%以上,CaO或Fe(Ⅱ)盐对Se或Cr浸出有一定的抑制作用,但浸出量仍高达40%以上,效果均有限,而Mg O作用下Se或Cr浸出量可降至10%以下。LCF分析结果显示Cr(Ⅵ)与Se(Ⅵ)在地质聚合物三维网状结构中均以静电力的结合方式存在。此外,Mg O或CaO的水化过程可促使Fe(Ⅱ)还原性的释放,约15%的Cr(Ⅵ)可被还原为Cr(Ⅲ);而针对Se(Ⅵ),Ca与Se(Ⅵ)可发生键合作用,Fe(Ⅱ)并没有起到还原性的作用;Mg O、CaO、Fe(Ⅱ)盐对固化体中Se(Ⅵ)或Cr(Ⅵ)的浸出起着一定的协同效应。此外,Mg O、CaO、Fe(Ⅱ)盐作用的地质聚合物固化体强度均满足工业填埋最低要求。

An 87-year-old,Japanese woman was shown to have a submucosal tumor-like lesion with a deep,central ulceration covered with thick,whitish exudate in the *** showed Candida tropicalis but not Helicobacter pylori(***).She had no predisposing factors or history of peptic ulcers nor had taken non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),diagnosed with Candida-associated gastric *** cured of the lesion,she developed another ulcer in a different position,in which Candida was demonstrated but *** was *** is the first case of recurrent Candida-associated gastric ulcer in the *** in both the original and recurrent lesions in an ***-negative patient with no antecedent ulcers who had not taken NSAIDs,Candida is considered,contrary to the prevailing opinion,to play an etiologic role in ulcer formation.

The present study investigated the wax deposition tendencies of a light Malaysian crude oil（42.4° API）, and the wax inhibiting potential of some surfactants and their blends with nanoparticles. With the knowledge that the majority of the wax inhibition research revolved around polymeric wax inhibitors, which cause environmental issues, we highlighted the potential of surfactants and their blend with SiO2 nanoparticles as wax deposition inhibitors. Different surfactants including oil-based, silane-based, Gemini and bio-surfactants were considered as primary surfactants. The primary surfactants and their respective blends at a concentration of 400 ppm were screened as wax inhibitor candidates using cold finger apparatus. The screening results showed a significant influence on the paraffin inhibition efficiency on wax deposition by using 400 ppm of silane-based surfactant, which decreased the wax deposition up to 53.9% as compared to that of the untreated crude oil. The inhibition efficiency among the silane-based surfactant（highest） and bio-surfactant（lowest）revealed an appreciable difference up to 36.5%. Furthermore, the wax from the treated sample was found to deposit in a thin gel-like form, which adhered inadequately to the surface of the cold finger. A further investigation by blending the 400 ppm silane-based surfactant with a 400 ppm SiO2 nanoparticle suspension in a load ratio of 3：1 found that the wax inhibition decreased up to 81% as compared to the scenario when they were not added. However, we have shown that the synergy between the silane-based surfactant and the nanoparticles is influenced by the concentration and load ratio of surfactant and nanoparticles, residence time, differential temperature and rotation rate.

Enargite is typically associated with *** to the similarity in the flotation behaviors of these minerals,both minerals are reported to concentrate in the conventional flotation ***,inorganic arsenic in enargite can decrease the copper concentrate quality and increase the operating cost of processing this *** these minerals is important for cleaner copper production to avoid these *** this context,this study investigated the effect of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))treatment on the flotation behavior of chalcocite and *** tests of pure and mixed minerals indicated that H_(2)O_(2)treatment reduced the floatability of chalcocite and enargite by forming sulfate and copper hydroxide on their *** the detrimental effect of the H_(2)O_(2)treatment,there was a narrow window of H_(2)O_(2)concentration for separating both minerals,in which enargite floated and chalcocite was *** selective flotation behavior was caused by the rapid adsorption of potassium amyl xanthate(KAX)and lower surface oxidation of enargite compared with that of chalcocite.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), a class of anionic clays consisting of brucite-like host layers and interlayer anions, have been widely investigated in the last decade due to their promising applications in many areas such as catalysis, ion separation and adsorption. Owing to the highly tunable compositi on and uniform distribution of metal cations in the brucite-like layers, as well as the facile exchangeability of intercalated anions, LDHs can be modified and functionalized to form various nanostructures/composites through versatile processes such as anion intercalation and exfoliation, decoration of nanoparticles, selfassembly with other two-dimensional (2D) materials, and controlled growth on conductive supports (e.g., nanowire arrays, nano tubes, 3D foams). In this article, we briefly review the recent advances on both the LDH nano structures and functionalized composites toward the applications in energy conversion, especially for water oxidation.
