This paper deals with the application of Acousto-ultrasonics,in con- junction with Pattern Recognition and Classification techniques,to the identification of residual impact properties of a class of polymeric material,namely,Polyvinylchlo- ride(PVC).PVC specimens of different low-energy repeated impact damage states are processed by Acousto-ultrasonics(AU)to retrieve AU signals in the form of dig- italized *** AU signals are grouped as distinct classes,each pertaining to a known level of repeated impact *** features of these AU signals are used to build Pattern Recognition(PR)*** classifiers are used to identify unknown damage states in other PVC specimens by classifying the re- trieved AU signals as belonging to one of the *** obtained results indicate that Acousto-ultrasonics in combination with Pattern Recognition and Classification techniques can be used for the quantitative non-destructive identification of damage states in PVC specimens of unknown low-energy repeated impact conditions.

Uncovering the dominant contribution of intermediate volatility compounds in secondary organic aerosol formation from biomass-burning emissions

Organic vapors from biomass burning are a major source of secondary organic aerosols(SOAs). Previous smog chamber studies found that the SOA contributors in biomass-burning emissions are mainly volatile organic compounds(VOCs). While intermediate volatility organic compounds(IVOCs) are efficient SOA precursors and contribute a considerable fraction of biomass-burning emissions, their contribution to SOA formation has not been directly observed. Here, by deploying a newly-developed oxidation flow reactor to study SOA formation from wood burning, we find that IVOCs can contribute ～70% of the formed SOA, i.e.>2 times more than VOCs. This previously missing SOA fraction is interpreted to be due to the high wall losses of semi-volatile oxidation products of IVOCs in smog chambers. The finding in this study reveals that SOA production from biomass burning is much higher than previously thought, and highlights the urgent need for more research on the IVOCs from biomass burning and potentially other emission sources.

Advanced oxidation technologies are a friendly environmental approach for the remediation of industrial wastewaters. Here, one pot synthesis of mesoporous WO3 and WO3-graphene oxide（GO） nanocomposites has been performed through the sol–gel method. Then, platinum（Pt） nanoparticles were deposited onto the WO3 and WO3-GO nanocomposite through photochemical reduction to produce mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites. X-ray diffraction（XRD） findings exhibit a formation of monoclinic and triclinic WO3 phases. Transmission Electron microscope（TEm） images of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited that WO3 nanoparticles are obviously agglomerated and the particle sizes of Pt and WO3 are ~ 10 nm and 20–50 nm, respectively. The mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites were assessed for photocatalytic degradation of methylene Blue（mB） as a probe molecule under visible light *** findings showed that mesoporous Pt/WO3, WO3-GO and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited much higher photocatalytic efficiencies than the pure WO3. The photodegradation rates by mesoporous Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites are 3, 2 and 1.15 times greater than those by mesoporous WO3, WO3-GO, and Pt/WO3, respectively. The key factors of the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites could be explained by the highly freedom electron transfer through the synergetic effect between WO3 and GO sheets, in addition to the Pt nanoparticles that act as active sites for O2 reduction, which suppresses the electron hole pair recombination in the Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites.

In the modeling of microsegregation, the partition coefficient is usually calculated using data from the equilibrium phase diagrams. The aim of this study was to experimentally and theoretically analyze the partition coefficient in binary aluminum--copper alloys. The sam- ples were analyzed by differential thermal analysis （DTA）, which were melted and quenched from different temperatures during solidifica- tion. The mass fraction and composition of phases were measured by image processing and scanning electron microscopy （SEm） equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS） unit. These data were used to calculate as the experimental partition coefficients with four different methods. The experimental and equilibrium partition coefficients were used to model the concentration profile in the primary phase. The modeling results show that the profiles calculated by the experimental partition coefficients are more consistent with the experi- mental profiles, compared to those calculated using the equilibrium partition coefficients.

气-固界面和嵌件-环氧界面的电场强度集中效应被认为是导致直流三支柱绝缘子发生沿面闪络和支腿炸裂的重要原因,传统的结构优化难以同时有效调控两个界面的电场分布,迫切需要更合理的调控手段。通过电-热-流多物理场仿真,研究直流三支柱绝缘子界面电场分布特性,指出电荷积聚是造成界面处场强集中的主要原因。据此提出基于“类U型”梯度电导的绝缘子双界面电场联合调控策略,通过嵌件-环氧界面高电导涂层和气-固界面非线性电导涂层的协同使用,使得三支柱绝缘子体电导和表面电导呈“类U型”梯度分布,可降低绝缘子内部及表面电荷积聚程度,从而优化界面电场分布。进一步研究双界面涂层对直流三支柱绝缘子界面电场的调控作用,并针对电场调节与损耗控制目标,实现对涂层电导参数的优化。研究结果表明:当嵌件-环氧界面涂覆材料电导率不小于10^(-12)S/m、气-固界面非线性电导材料参数处于“临界饱和线”上时,支柱绝缘子嵌件-环氧界面最大电场强度可从4.48kV/mm降至0.04kV/mm,气-固界面最大切向电场强度从2.47kV/mm降至1.73kV/mm。参数优化后的双界面梯度电导涂层,可使界面电场集中效应得到有效抑制,同时将绝缘子最大电场与功率损耗控制在允许范围内,为高压直流三支柱绝缘子的优化设计提供了基础依据。

A Dvali–Gabadadze–Porrati(DGP)brane-world model with perfect fluid brane matter including a Brans-Dicke(BD)scalar field on brane was utilized to investigate the problem of the quark-hadron phase(QHP)transition in early evolution of the *** presence of the BD scalar field arises with several modified terms in the Friedmann *** the behavior of the phase transition strongly depends on the basic evolution equations,even a small change in these relations might lead to interesting results about the time of *** phase transition is investigated in two scenarios,namely the first-order phase transition and smooth crossover phase *** the first-order scenario,which is used for the intermediate temperature regime,the evolution of the physical quantities,such as temperature and scale factor,are investigated before,during,and after the phase *** results show that the transition occurs in about a *** the following part,the phenomenon is studied by assuming a smooth crossover transition,where the lattice QCD data is utilized to obtain a realistic equation for the state of the *** investigation for this part is performed in the high and low-temperature *** the trace anomaly in the high-temperature regime specifies a simple equation of state,which states that the quark-gluon behaves like ***,in the low-temperature regime,the trace anomaly is affected by discretization effects,and the hadron resonance gas model is utilized *** this model,a more realistic equation of state is found in the low-temperature *** crossover phase transition in both regimes is *** results determine that the transition lasts around a few ***,the transition in the low-temperature regime occurs after the transition in the high-temperature regime.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

AIm:To compare the efficacy of the proton-pump inhibitor,rabeprazole,with that of the H 2-receptor antagonist,ranitidine,as on-demand therapy for relieving symptoms associated with non-erosive reflux disease(NERD).mETHODS:This is a single center,prospective,randomized,open-label trial of on-demand therapy with rabeprazole(group A) vs ranitidine(group B) for 4 ***-three patients who presented to the American University of Beirut medical Center with persistent gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) symptoms and a normal upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were eligible for the *** in group A(n = 44) were allowed a maximum rabeprazole dose of 20 mg twice daily,while those in group B(n = 39) were allowed a maximum ranitidine dose of 300 mg twice *** was assessed by patient evaluation of global symptom relief,scores of the SF-36 quality of life(QoL) questionnaires,total number of pills used,and number of medication-free ***:Among the 83 patients who were enrolled in the study,76 patients(40 in the rabeprazole group and 36 in the ranitidine group) completed the 4-wk *** characteristics were comparable between both *** 4 wk,there was no significant difference in the subjective global symptom relief between the rabeprazole and the ranitidine groups(71.4% vs 65.4%,respectively;P = 0.9).There were no statistically significant differences between mean cumulative scores of the SF-36 QoL questionnaire for the two study groups(rabeprazole 22.40 ± 27.53 vs ranitidine 17.28 ± 37.06;P = 0.582).There was no significant difference in the mean number of pills used(rabeprazole 35.70 ± 29.75 vs ranitidine 32.86 ± 26.98;P = 0.66).There was also no statistically significant difference in the mean number of medication-free days between both ***:Rabeprazole has a comparable efficacy compared to ranitidine when given on-demand for the treatment of *** medications were associated with improved quality of life.
