Recent data suggest that cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR)gene alterations negatively impact male fertility beyond *** sought to compare gene alterations,sperm retrieval rates,and intracytoplasmic sperm injection(iCSi)outcomes among men with cystic fibrosis(CF)disease and congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens(CBAVD)*** retrospectively evaluated all men who underwent surgical sperm retrieval at two academic,high-volume andrology centers from 2010 to *** men with documented CFTR alterations and obstructive azoospermia from either CBAVD or CF were *** between groups for CFTR abnormality,sperm retrieval,and iCSi outcomes were statistically ***,39 patients were included with 10 in the CF and 29 in the CBAVD *** sperm retrieval rates were significantly lower in the CF group for sperm concentration(14.8×10^(6)ml^(-1)vs 61.4×10^(6)ml^(−1),P=0.02)and total motile sperm count(2.9 million vs 11.4 million,P=0.01).This difference was only predicted by homozygous delta F508 CFTR mutations(Pignificantly higher rate of rescue testicular sperm extraction(70.0%vs 27.6%,Pilization rate with iCSi(32.5%vs 68.9%,Pin conclusion,those with CF demonstrated lower sperm quality,greater difficulty with sperm retrieval,and worse iCSi outcomes compared with CBAVD-only *** delta F508 CFTR mutations appear to significantly impair spermatogenesis and sperm function.

The ternary magnesium hydride NaMgH 3 has been synthesised via reactive milling *** method employed neither a reactive H2 atmosphere nor high pressure sintering or other post-treatment *** formation of the ternary hydride was studied as a function of milling time and ball:powder *** purity NaMgH 3 powder(orthorhombic space group Pnma,a 5.437(2),b 7.705(5),c 5.477(2) ;Z 4) was prepared in 5 h at high ball:powder ratios and characterised by powder X-ray diffraction(PXD),Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM/EDX).The products formed sub-micron scale(typically 200-400 nm in size) crystallites that were approximately isotropic in *** dehydrogenation behaviour of the ternary hydride was investigated by temperature programmed desorption(TPD).The nanostructured hydride releases hydrogen in two steps with an onset temperature for the first step of 513 K.

A new concept of the global magnetospheric resonator is suggested for fast magnetosonic waves in which the role of the resonator is played by the near part of the plasma sheet. it is shown that the magnetosonic wave is confined in this region of the magnetosphere throughout its boundaries. The representative value of the resonator's eigenfrequency estimated at f ≈ 1 mHz is in good agreement with observational data on ultraThe theory explains the ground-based localization of the oscillations observed in the midnight-morning sector of the high-latitude magnetosphere.

Strain engineering as one of the most powerful techniques for tuning optical and electronic properties of iii-nitrides requires reliable methods for strain *** this work,we reveal,that the linear model based on the experimental data limited to within a small range of biaxial strains(ich is widely used for the non-destructive Raman study of strain with nanometer-scale spatial resolution is not valid for the binary wurtzite-structure group-iii nitrides GaN and ***,we found that the discrepancy between the experimental values of strain and those calculated via Raman spectroscopy increases as the strain in both GaN and AlN ***,a new model has been developed to describe the strain-induced Raman frequency shift in GaN and AlN for a wide range of biaxial strains(up to 2.5%).Finally,we proposed a new approach to correlate the Raman frequency shift and strain,which is based on the lattice coherency in the epitaxial layers of superlattice structures and can be used for a wide range of materials.

Retrorectal cysts are rare benign lesions in the presacral space which are frequently diagnosed in middle-aged females. We report here our experience with two symptomatic female patients who were diagnosed as having a retrorectal cyst and managed using a laparoscopic approach. The two patients were misdiagnosed as having an ovarian cystic lesion after abdominal ultrasonography. Computer tomograghy (CT) scan was mandatory to establish the diagnosis. The trocar port site was the same in both patients. An additional left oophorectomy was done for a coexisting ovarian cystic lesion in one patient in the same setting. There was no postoperative morbidity or mortality and the two patients were discharged on the 5th and 6th post operative days, respectively. Our cases show that laparoscopic management of retrorectal cysts is a safe approach. it reduces surgical trauma and offers an excellent tool for perfect visualization of the deep structures in the presacral space.

Adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of frail hypertensive patients

Objective To investigate the relationship between frailty syndrome （FS） and adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment for hypertension. Methods The study included 100 patients diagnosed with hypertension and treated with one or more hypotensive drugs. Results Frail patients obtained low scores （4.1 ± 2.0） for adherence to pharmaceutical treatment of hypertension, while non-frail patients obtained moderate scores （6.1 ± 2.1）. Non-frail patients had higher scores in two out of four domains of the Health Behavior inventory （HBi）： positive mental attitudes （3.6 ± 0.4 vs. 3.2 ± 0.5; P = 0.006） and health practices （3.6 ± 0.5 vs. 3.2 ± 0.5; P 〈 0.03）; as well as higher global scores （HBi raw score）： 83.3 ±10.6 vs. 77.3 ± 9.5; P 〈 0.03. Multiple regression analysis showed that frailty syndrome （FS） was a statistically significant independent determinant of worse adherence to pharmacological treatment （β= -0.27; P 〈 0.001） and health behaviors （β = -0.10; P = 0.036）. Education was a statistically significant independent determinant of better adherence to pharmacological treatment （β = 0.82; P = 0.012）, while net income positively affected health behaviors as measured by the HBi （β = 0.39; P = 0.046）. Conclusions FS is a significant independent factor contributing to worse adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension. Better education significantly improves patients＇ adherence to the prescribed pharmacological treatment, while a good financial standing evidenced by high net income is a determinant of better adherence to health-related behaviors recommended in hypertension treatment.
