This paper reviews the theoretical foundations of zonal flow, putting emphasis on the linear response function of plasma to the external flow drive. An extension of the theory is made in order to apply it to helical systems and to study the properties of the zonal flow in the low frequency range. Further refinement of the theory is made incorporating the orbital effects of particles more precisely, and the role of neoclassical polarization current is identified.

This article presents an experimental study that clarifies the relationship between the initial fracture stress and fatigue limit of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin specimens with a laminated structure taken from a pultruded square pipe. Quasi-static bending and tension tests are performed with acoustic emission (AE) measurements to identifying the occurrence of initial fracture during testing. AE and observation results have clarified the occurrence of initial fracture was detected by maximum acoustic energy values and corresponding fiber breakage in the unidirectional (UD) bundles. Moreover, the ratio of initial fracture stress to ultimate strength is 32% in bending and 26% in tension, when comparing stress and strains on the tension side of the UD layer. These values are in good agreement with each other and with the measured tensile fatigue limit when the cyclic stress is at 25% of the tensile strength. Initial fracture stress obtained by static tests is close values to the fatigue limit which will greatly contribute to the prediction of the fatigue limit.

A recent assessment that quantified potential impacts of solar energy development on water resources in the southwestern United States necessitated the development of a methodology to identify locations of mountain front recharge (MFR) in order to guide land development decisions. A spatially explicit, slope-based algorithm was created to delineate MFR zones in 17 arid, mountainous watersheds using elevation and land cover data. Slopes were calculated from elevation data and grouped into 100 classes using iterative self-organizing classification. Candidate MFR zones were identified based on slope classes that were consistent with MFR. Land cover types that were inconsistent with groundwater recharge were excluded from the candidate areas to determine the final MFR zones. No MFR reference maps exist for comparison with the study’s results, so the reliability of the resulting MFR zone maps was evaluated qualitatively using slope, surficial geology, soil, and land cover datasets. MFR zones ranged from 74 km2 to 1547 km2 and accounted for 40% of the total watershed area studied. Slopes and surficial geologic materials that were present in the MFR zones were consistent with conditions at the mountain front, while soils and land cover that were present would generally promote groundwater recharge. Visual inspection of the MFR zone maps also confirmed the presence of well-recognized alluvial fan features in several study watersheds. While qualitative evaluation suggested that the algorithm reliably delineated MFR zones in most watersheds overall, the algorithm was better suited for application in watersheds that had characteristic Basin and Range topography and relatively flat basin floors than areas without these characteristics. Biochar(BC)has gained attention for removal of toxic elements(TEs)from aqueous media;however,pristine biochar often exhibits low adsorption ***,various modification strategies in BC have been developed to improve its removal capability against *** zero-valent iron(nZVI)and iron oxides(FeOx)have been used as sorbents for TE ***,these materials are prone to agglomeration and also expensive,which make their usage limited for large-scale *** nZVI technical demerits could be resolved by the development of BC-based composite sorbents through the loading of nZVI or FeOx onto BC *** zero-valent iron modified BC(nZVIBC),FeOx-modified BC(FeOxBC)have attracted attention for their capability in removing pollutants from the aqueous ***,a potential use of nZVIBC and FeOxBC for TE removal from aqueous environments has not been well-realized or *** such,this article reviews:(i)the preparation and characterization of nZVIBC and FeOxBC;(ii)the capacity of nZVIBC and FeOxBC for TE retention in line with their physicochemical properties,and(iii)TE removal mechanisms by nZVIBC and *** nZVI and FeOx in BC increases its sporptive capability of TEs due to surface modifications in morphology,functional groups,and elemental *** combined effects of BC and nZVI,FeOx or Fe salts on the sorption of TEs are complex because they are very specific to *** review identified significant opportunities for research and technol-ogy advancement of nZVIBC and FeOxBC as novel and effective sorbents for the remediation of TEs contaminated water.

A 50-year-old male was referred to our hospital for the evaluation of *** positron emission tomography revealed high fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in the pancreas,bilateral lacrimal glands,submandibular glands,parotid glands,bilateral pulmonary hilar lymph nodes,and *** data showed an elevation of hepatobiliary enzymes,renal dysfunction,and remarkably high immunoglobulin(Ig) G levels,without elevated serum *** computed tomography revealed swelling of the pancreatic head and bilateral *** retrograde cholangiopancreatography showed an irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct in the pancreatic head and stricture of the lower common bile *** examination by endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration revealed findings of lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis without IgG4-positive plasma *** laboratory values and the swelling of several organs were improved by the treatment with *** patient was diagnosed as having type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP) based on the International Consensus Diagnostic ***,we encountered a case of compatible type 1 AIP without elevated levels of serum IgG4 or IgG4-positive plasma *** case suggests that AIP phenotypes are not always associated with IgG4.

Background. Interest in tuberculosis has recently been revived, espec ially in association with the onset of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). In Jap an, the incidence of tuberculosis has declined since the 1950s, but has shown a tendency to increase in the past 10 years. Meth ods. To determine the patterns of prevalence of cutaneous tuberculosis in Jap an, data for cutaneous tuberculosis cases recorded between 1906 and 2002 were ob tained from the dermatologic clinic of Kyushu University Hospital. The populatio n of tuberculosis-infected patients was stratified into groups encompassing 10 -year periods. Each patient group was then classified as having true tuberculo sis or tuberculid, as well as being classified by gender. The total number of pa tients with cutaneous tuberculosis analyzed was 1324. Results. The incidence of cutaneous tuberculosis, both true tuberculosis and tuberculid, decreased between 1906 and 1935, increased between 1936 and 1955, and decreased again from 1955. The incidence of true tuberculosis was higher than that of tuberculid between 19 06 and 1925. The incidence rates of true tuberculosis and tuberculid were equal from 1926 to 1945, and since 1946 the incidence of tuberculid has been higher th an that of true tuberculosis. The incidence of tuberculid decreased between 1986 and 1995, but showed a dramatic increase between 1996 and 2000. The frequency o f cutaneous tuberculosis was highest in the 10- 49 year age group before 1980, but since 1981 has been highest in groups over 40 years of age. Conclusions. The incidence of cutaneous tuberculosis in Japan is decreasing and shows a shift to wards older generations. However, there is an increase in the incidence of tuber culid, especially in elderly female patients.

Pancreatic duct drainage using EUS-guided rendezvous technique for stenotic pancreaticojejunostomy

The patient was a 30-year-old female who had undergone excision of the extrahepatic bile duct and Rouxen-y hepaticojejunostomy for congenital biliary dilatation at the age of ***,she suffered from recurrent acute pancreatitis due to pancreaticobiliary maljunction and received subtotal stomach-preserving *** developed a pancreatic fistula and an intra-abdominal abscess after the *** complications were improved by percutaneous abscess drainage and antibiotic *** ever,upper abdominal discomfort and the elevation of serum pancreatic enzymes persisted due to stenosis from the *** we could not accomplish dilation of the stenosis by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography,we tried an endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) guided rendezvous technique for pancreatic duct *** transgastric puncture of the pancreatic duct using an EUS-fine needle aspiration needle,the guidewire was inserted into the pancreatic duct and finally reached to the jejunum through the stenotic *** changed the echoendoscope to an oblique-viewing endoscope,then grasped the guidewire and withdrew it through the *** stenosis of the pancreaticojejunostomy was dilated up to 4 mm,and a pancreatic stent was put in *** the pancreatic stent was removed after three months,the patient remained *** duct drainage using an EUS-guided rendezvous technique was useful for the treatment of a stenotic pancreaticojejunostomy after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Additive Manufacturing of Ceramics from Liquid Feedstocks

Although there are many reports on the clinical use of the MIB-1 labeling index（LI）,which is a measure of proliferative activity in astrocytomas;its significance varies between *** are no known molecules that are directly linked to the MIB-1 LI in *** evaluated the clinical value of the MIB-1 LI in our human glioblastoma cases and determined the molecules that possibly influenced the MIB-1 *** immunohistochemical study of the MIB-1 protein was performed and MIB-1 LIs of 38 glioblastomas were *** the same cases,epidermal growth factor receptor（EGFR）,plateletderived growth factor receptor-a（PDGFRA）,and sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor type 1（S1P1）,which are known regulators of glioma cell proliferation,were detected and quantified by quantitative real-time-PCR or western ***-Meier survival curves for 38 patients with glioblastomas showed that a high MIB-1 LI correlated with poor survival（P ＜ 0.05）.Among the molecules tested,only the low expression of S1P1 was significantly correlated with the high MIB-1 LI in glioblastomas（P ＜ 0.05）.Multivariate analysis revealed that the S1P1 expression level was a significant prognostic *** results indicate that the MIB-1 LI is an important prognostic factor in human ***,downregulation of S1P1 expression increases proliferative activity,and thus enhances the malignancy of glioblastomas,resulting in a poor survival.

In this review,we summarize the research activities carried out by our research group at the University of Padova on the additive manufacturing of ceramics from liquid ***,we evaluate the use of preceramic polymers,geopolymers,and sol-gel *** mainly focus on processing with liquid feedstocks because they have some advantages with respect to slurry-based feedstocks in which powders are ***,lower viscosity,enhanced transparency,and lack of scattering and sedimentation are advantageous features for vat photopolymerization processes,whereas the absence of particulates reduces clogging problems at the nozzle for extrusion-based ***,preceramic polymers and geopolymers have some limitations in terms of the range of ceramic compositions that can be obtained;sol-gel solutions are intrinsically unstable,whereas printed objects suffer from drying ***,we successfully produced high-quality parts using a variety of additive manufacturing techniques,some of which(e.g.,volumetric additive manufacturing)have been proposed for the fabrication of ceramic components for the first time.
