BACKGROUND Bone marrow transplantation(BMT)is a breakthrough procedure for patients with hematological and oncological conditions,particularly when all other treat-ments *** indications vary between patients and settings,and its outcomes depend on the donor type,transplantation facility,and center *** coun-tries where transplantation facilities are lacking,sending patients abroad for transplantation might be a safe and effective alternative to leaving the patient to face eventual disease morbidity or even mortality if the procedure is not per-formed ***,studies evaluating BMT abroad are *** To assess the clinical characteristics of patients who underwent BMT overseas and analyze the factors affecting their survival *** We conducted a retrospective cohort study of all Bahraini pediatric patients who underwent BMT between 2013 and *** records from Salmaniya Medical Complex and Overseas Treatment Office were *** demographics,RESULTS Of the 75 listed patients,62(82.7%)underwent BMT and were included,10(13.3%)did not,and 3(4.0%)were awaiting *** patients were male(n=33,53.2%).The mean age at transplantation was 7.8±4.9 *** main indication for treatment was acute myeloid leukemia(AML)(n=15,36.6%).Six patients(9.7%)required *** the 68 transplants,60(88.2%)involved conditioning,mostly a combination of fludarabine and total body irradiation(n=7,11.7%).Most patients underwent allogeneic transplantation(n=48,77.4%),primarily from related donors(n=47/48,97.9%).The most common complication was infection(n=51,79.7%).Follow-up averaged 3.3±2.5 *** overall survival rate was 77.4%.Survival odds were better for non-AML patients and Middle Eastern centers(P=0.015 and P=0.032,respectively).CONCLUSION Bahraini males with AML primarily underwent allogeneic ***-AML patients and those transplanted in the Middle East had better survival rates,despite high complication rates

This paper presents a molecular dynamics simulation of the behaviours of non-polar droplets merging and also the fluid molecules interacting with a hydrophobic surface. Such behaviours and transport phenomena are popular in general microchannel flow boiling and two-phase flow. The droplets are assumed to be composed of Lennards-Jones type molecules. Periodic boundary conditions are applied in three coordinate directions of a 3-D system, where there exist two liquid droplets and their vapour. The two droplets merge when they come within the prescribed small distance. The merging of two droplets apart from each other at different initial distances is tested and the possible larger （or critical） non-dimensional distance, in which droplets merging can occur, is discussed. The evolution of the merging process is simulated numerically by employing the Molecular Dynamics （MD） method. For interactions with hydrophobic solid wall, a system with fluid confined between two walls is used to study the wetting phenomena of fluid and solid wall. The results are compared with those of hydrophilic wall to show the unique characteristics of hydrophobic interactions by microscopic methods.

A semi-implicit elastic/crystalline viscoplastic finite element（FE） method based on a ＂crystallographic homogenization＂ approach is formulated for a multi-scale analysis. In the formulation, the asymptotic series expansion is introduced to define the displacement in the micro-continuum. This homogenization FE analysis is aimed at predicting the plastic deformation induced texture evolution of polycrystalline materials, the constituent microstructure of which is represented by an assembly of single crystal grains. The rate dependent crystal plasticity model is adopted for the description of microstructures. Their displacements are decomposed into two parts： the homogenized deformation defined in the macrocontinuum and the perturbed one in the micro-continuum. This multi-scale formulation makes it possible to carry out an alternative transition from a representative micro-structure to the macro-continuum. This homogenization procedure satisfies both the compatibility and the equilibrium in the micro-structure. This developed code is applied to predict the texture evolution, and its performance is demonstrated by the numerical examples of texture evolution of FCC polycrystalline metals.

“斑马纹”指的是存在于内辐射带高能电子(几十到几百千keV)的能量-空间(L shell)谱中的一种规则条纹状结构.这些结构呈现出漂移周期性,通常起源于亚暴起始附近发生的大尺度电场扰动.本文引入了一个复合电场模型,利用弹跳平均的测试粒子模拟方法复现了斑马纹在电场模型下的形成、结构与演化.使用范艾伦探测器和近期发射的澳门科学卫星一号获取的高能电子的高分辨率观测结果作为初始条件,并用于验证该模拟方法.观测数据与模拟之间的对比分析表明,本文测试粒子方法能够有效地描述斑马纹的一般行为.此外,复合电场模型能够在一定程度上复现内辐射带中电场的实际变化.然而,由于电场模型和初始条件的限制,模拟结果与观测数据仍存在细微的差异,主要体现在通量强度和条纹位置上.这表明尽管模型代表了平均情况,但在实际中可能会存在偏离平均值的情况,从而导致模拟与观测的偏差.

Recent Advances in Computational Simulation of Macro-,Meso-,and Micro-Scale Biomimetics Related Fluid Flow Problems

Over the last decade, computational methods have been intensively applied to a variety of scientific researches and engineering designs. Although the computational fluid dynamics （CFD） method has played a dominant role in studying and simulating transport phenomena involving fluid flow and heat and mass transfers, in recent years, other numerical methods for the simulations at meso- and micro-scales have also been actively applied to solve the physics of complex flow and fluid-interface interactions. This paper presents a review of recent advances in multi-scale computational simulation of biomimetics related fluid flow problems. The state-of-the-art numerical techniques, such as lattice Boltzmann method （LBM）, molecular dynamics （MD）, and conventional CFD, applied to different problems such as fish flow, electro-osmosis effect of earthworm motion, and self-cleaning hydrophobic surface, and the numerical approaches are introduced. The new challenging of modelling biomimetics problems in developing the physical conditions of self-clean hydrophobic surfaces is discussed.

It was tried to prepare composite particles made of polymer and two kinds of solid powders by forming Pickeringemulsion followed by the drying-in-liquid method and to investigate how the stepwise addition of solid powders affected the contained ratio and adhesion ratio of solid powders and the structure of composite particles. Limonene oil dissolving expanded polystyrene and ethylene glycol were adopted as the dispersed phase and the continuous phase, respectively. Magnetite and titanium dioxide were used as solid powders. Magnetite was added before or after formation of the (O/W) dispersion. Titanium dioxide was added at the various elapsed times from addition of magnetite. Titanium dioxide adhered only on the surface of composite particles irrespective of addition time. At the earlier addition of both solid powders, the surface-covering type composite particles were prepared. At the latter addition of titanium dioxide, a part of magnetite adhered on the surface and the remainder was dispersed into composite particle.
