Pharmacochemical Aspects of the Evolution from Erythromycin to Neomacrolides, Ketolides and Neoketolides

Antibiotic macrolides are experiencing renewed interest in anti-infective therapy since the advent of ketolides. This therapeutic class was introduced in order to broaden the narrow antibacterial spectrum of macrolides and to cope with the emergence of germs resistant to Erythromycin A and its hemisynthetic derivatives or neomacrolides (Clarithromycin, Roxithromycin, Azithromycin, Dirithromycin). From a pharmacochemical point of view, ketolides were first of all obtained by operating chemical modulations on Erythromycin A to obtain the neomacrolides, then, by replacing the neutral sugar (L-cladinose) in C3 by a ketone function coupled with the creation of an oxazolidinone like heterocycle in C11 and C12 in place of the hydroxyls present in these positions (Telithromycin, Cethromycin, Solithromycin). These modulations have enabled the improvement of the chemical stability of ketolides in gastric acid medium and increase their affinity for the ribosomal target, hence the broadening of their spectrum of action towards Gram positive germs including strains resistant to other macrolides and to neomacrolides. Therefore, the objective of this systematic review is to report the various pharmacochemical aspects undertaken since 1952 in the macrolide series based on the structure of Erythromycin A. These aspects will focus on the pharmacomodulations that have led, year after year, to the optimization of stability, the improvement of the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic profile and that have allowed the development of neomacrolides, ketolides and neoketolides, which are today essential in the management of severe bronchopulmonary infections.

Incorporation of Crop Residues into Soil: A Practice to Improve Soil Chemical Properties

Crop residues have the potential to enhance soil fertility, but this is dependent on their biochemical properties. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition, and nutrients release patterns of selected crop residues (corn stalk, rice straw, millet straw and sorghum stalk). Thus, 20 g of each crop residue were put in litter bags and placed in a plastic pot containing 10 kg of soil with a moisture content of 40% - 60%. Five replications were considered per type of residue and some samples were taken every 4 weeks. Results showed that crop residues got a pH varying between 5.09 and 6.5. The lowest C content (33.11%) and nitrogen (0.27%) were measured in sorghum stalk when the highest C content (47.6%) and nitrogen content (0.55%) were registered in corn stalk. The highest phosphorus content (0.58%) was got in corn stalk. Potassium content was higher in millet straw than in others. The highest calcium content (0.37%) and magnesium (0.29%) were found in rice straw. There was an increase of soil chemical composition after crop residues burial. Significant increase in carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus content was noted in soil at week 4 with the highest at week 16. At the end of the experiment, the highest C content (53.1%) and the highest nitrogen content (0.88%) in the soil were observed after burial of rice straw. The highest phosphorus content (0.82%) registered in the soil was got with millet straw. Nutrient release efficiency of crop residues occurred in the following order: rice straw > millet straw > sorghum stalk > corn stalk. This study has demonstrated that rice straw and millet straw released nutrients faster and this is beneficial for early planted crops, while sorghum stalk and corn stalk released nutrients slowly which is appropriate for long-term availability of plant nutrients.

This paper is concerned with the determination of the thermal energy performances of individual houses built with ＂H＂ shape bricks in hot and dry tropical climate （different cities of Burkina Faso and the city of Bamako in Mali）. The bricks＇ matrices include three void spaces which are filled during construction with either clay-grass mixture or with entirely clay matter. After measuring the diffusivity of the clay matter and cement bricks samples utilizing the Flash method, we determine the ＂H＂ shape bricks＇ thermal equivalent conductivity using the HEAT software. The house, modeled utilizing the TRNSyS software, reveals that, besides their economical and environmental advantages, houses constructed with ＂H＂ shape bricks filled with clay, show approximately the same energy consumption patterns as void cement bricks houses. On the other hand, houses built utilizing ＂H＂ shape bricks filled with clay-grass mixture, which have low thermal conductivity, show a reduced air conditioning load. We also study the influence of the building orientation on the energy consumption.

Enhancing Pneumonia Detection in Pediatric Chest X-Rays Using CGAN-Augmented Datasets and Lightweight Deep Transfer Learning Models

Pneumonia ranks as a leading cause of mortality, particularly in children aged five and under. Detecting this disease typically requires radiologists to examine chest X-rays and report their findings to physicians, a task susceptible to human error. The application of Deep Transfer Learning (DTL) for the identification of pneumonia through chest X-rays is hindered by a shortage of available images, which has led to less than optimal DTL performance and issues with overfitting. Overfitting is characterized by a model’s learning that is too closely fitted to the training data, reducing its effectiveness on unseen data. The problem of overfitting is especially prevalent in medical image processing due to the high costs and extensive time required for image annotation, as well as the challenge of collecting substantial datasets that also respect patient privacy concerning infectious diseases such as pneumonia. To mitigate these challenges, this paper introduces the use of conditional generative adversarial networks (CGAN) to enrich the pneumonia dataset with 2690 synthesized X-ray images of the minority class, aiming to even out the dataset distribution for improved diagnostic performance. Subsequently, we applied four modified lightweight deep transfer learning models such as Xception, MobileNetV2, MobileNet, and EfficientNetB0. These models have been fine-tuned and evaluated, demonstrating remarkable detection accuracies of 99.26%, 98.23%, 97.06%, and 94.55%, respectively, across fifty epochs. The experimental results validate that the models we have proposed achieve high detection accuracy rates, with the best model reaching up to 99.26% effectiveness, outperforming other models in the diagnosis of pneumonia from X-ray images.

Impact of the Association of a High Fructose Diet and Chronic Mild Stress on Metabolic and Affective Disorders in Male Rat

An early unbalanced nutritional diet can induce affective disorders in adulthood. As well as stress in adolescence can accentuate these disorders. Both human and rat structural changes have been demonstrated in the hippocampus, likewise, oxidative stress may be involved in these disturbances. The objective of this study is to see the impact of a high-fructose diet (PN21) associated with chronic mild stress (CMS) at the end of adolescence (PN55) on metabolic and affective disorders in rats Wistar. This study was performed on four groups of male rats: control group, CMS for five weeks (PN55), fructose for ten weeks (PN21) and fructose for ten weeks (PN21) associated with CMS for five weeks (PN55). These animals underwent behavioral tests to evaluate their affective states (open field test, Sucrose preference test). After sacrifice, the dosage of glucose, triglycerides and total cholesterol was performed at the prefrontal cortex (CPF) and also at the hippocampus;the dosage of nitric oxide (NO) was performed, too. The bulk of our results show that fructose induces metabolic disturbances;the CMS induces a state of depression-like, while the association potentiated metabolic disturbances, depression-like state and also inducing anxiety. This study has shown that fructose and CMS can disrupt the various functions of the body and their association can potentiate these disturbances.

Influence of highway space alignment continuous degradation in 3- dimensional space on autonomous vehicle trajectory deviation based on PreScan simulation

The advent of autonomous vehicles(AVs)is expected to transform the current transportation system into a safe and reliable *** existing infrastructures,operational criteria,and design method were developed to meet the requirements of human ***,previous studies have shown that in the traditional horizontal and vertical combined design methods,where the two-dimensional alignment elements change,there are varying changes in curvature and torsion,which cause the continuous degradation of the spatial curve and *** continuous degradation will inevitably cause changes in the trajectory of Autonomous Vehicles(AVs),thereby affecting driving ***,studying the characteristics of autonomous vehicles trajectory deviation has theoretical significance for optimizing highway alignment safety *** simulation tests were performed by using PreScan and Simulink to calibrate the lateral deviation.A machine learning approach called the Gradient Boosting Decision Tree(GBDT)algorithm was implemented to build a model and express the relationship between space alignment parameters and lane *** results showed that the AV’s driving trajectory is significantly affected by the space alignment factors when the vehicle is driving in the inner lane,the downhill section,and the left-turn *** findings will provide a novel perspective for road safety research based on autonomous vehicle driving trajectories.

Acceptable glycemic control when examining the effects of meals was yle="font-family:"">achieved when combining basal insulin therapy and high concentration insulin injection before a meal, when using a PID controller (Proportionality, Integrity and Derivative actions) alone, when using a PID controller with basal insulin therapy and when combining the three methods of insulin delivery. Naturally, a type 1 diabetic must inject himself with insulin in well-measured doses. Thus, the management and control of diabetes become a complex task when one must be considered the disturbance due to nutrition and sports activity. This concern has been at the center of much research through different approaches through mathematical methods and Artificial Intelligence methods. This article simulates a physiological model of glycemic control in type 1 diabetics by a PID regulatory mechanism, in the context of disturbances caused by the patient’s meals and athletic activity.

Optimal Operating Conditions of an Organic Rankine Cycle under Steady Heat Input

In the frame of a small scale concentrating solar power plant design and construction in Ouagadougou, an ORC （organic rankine cycle） machine is used to operate as a power block. In order to characterize the system and further optimize its operating conditions, a model is developed in this paper to describe the operating process of the thermodynamic cycle. The so-called model is obtained by interconnecting the mathematical models of its components. Then, simulations are conducted to determine the parameters that impact mostly the efficiency of the system. Furthermore, authors conducted an exergy analysis of the system to evaluate the exergy destruction of every component for a chosen operating condition.
