The rocks of the Obudu Plateau range from high-grade metagrey.acke-pelite sequence to metaigneous (granitic to tholeiitic) and poly.agmatic (calc-alkaline granitic to olivine tholeiitic) igneous rocks. Several co-variance diagrams and other parameters indicate that the trace elements of rocks in southern Obudu Plateau exhibit sy.tematic variations and suggest highly.heterogeneous protoliths. The tectonic setting of the rocks indicates rifting and collisional to non-orogenic emplacements in oceanic to ensialic environments. The calc-alkaline and tholeiitic nature of the magmatism as well as the grey.acke-pelite sequence is suggestive of an Andean-ty.e continental environment.

Scale Effects of Geographical Soil Datasets on Soil Carb.n Estimation in Louisiana,USA:A Comparison of STATSGO and SSURGO

Estimation of soil organic carb.n （SOC） pools and fluxes bears large uncertainties because SOC stocks vary.greatly.over geographical space and through time. Although development of the U.S. Soil Survey.Geographic Database （SSURGO）, currently.the most detailed level with a map scale ranging from 1：12 000 to 1：63 360, has involved substantial government funds and coordinated network efforts, very.few studies have utilized it for soil carb.n assessment at the large landscape scale. The objectives of this study.were to 1） compare estimates in soil organic matter among SSURGO, the State Soil Geographic Database （STATSGO）, and referenced field measurements at the soil map unit; 2） examine the influence of missing data on SOC estimation by.SSURGO and STATSGO; 3） quantify.spatial differences in SOC estimation between SSURGO and STATSCO, specifically.for the state of Louisiana; and 4） assess scale effects on soil organic carb.n density.（SOCD） estimates from a soil map unit to a watershed and a river basin scale. SOC was estimated using soil attributes of SSURGO and STATSGO including soil organic matter （SOM） content, soil lay.r depth, and bulk density. Paired t-test, correlation, and regression analy.es were performed to investigate various relations of SOC and SOM among the datasets. There were positive relations of SOC estimates between SSURGO and STATSGO at the soil map unit （R2 = 0.56, n = 86, t = 1.65, P = 0.102; depth： 30 cm）. However, the SOC estimated by.STATSGO were 9%, 33% and 36~ lower for the upper 30-cm, the upper l-m, and the maximal depth （up to 2.75 m） soils, respectively. than those from SSURGO. The difference tended to increase as the spatial scale changes from the soil map unit to the watershed and river basin scales. Compared with the referenced field measurements, the estimates in SOM by.SSURGO showed a closer match than those of STATSCO, indicating that the former was more accurate than the latter in SOC estimation, both in spatial and temporal resoluti

This study.evaluates trends in quality.of nanotechnology.and nanoscience papers produced by.au- thors from the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The metric used to gauge quality.is ratio of highly.cited nanotechnology.papers to total nanotechnology.papers produced in sequential time frames. The USA is both the most prolific nanotechnology.publishing country.and most represented country.on highly.cited nanotechnology.papers (both in absolute numbers of highly.cited papers and highly.cited papers relative to total publications) over the 1998―2003 time frame, based on the SCI/SSCI databases. Some of the smaller hi-tech countries have relatively.high ratios (~2) of highly.cited papers to total publications (e.g. Denmark, netherlands, Switzerland). Countries that have exhibited rapid growth in SCI/SSCI nanotechnology.paper production in recent y.ars (e.g. PRC, South Korea) had ratios an order of magnitude less than that of the USA for 1998, but by.2003 had increased to about 20% that of the USA (~2.5). PRC and South Korea have climbed in the publications rankings from 6th and 9th in 1998, re- spectively. to 2nd and 6th in 2005, respectively. PRC’s ratio monotonically.increased from 0.16 to 0.45 over the 1998―2003 period, and South Korea’s ratio increased from 0.11 to about 0.6 over that same period, indicating their papers are getting more and more citations proportionately. Thus, under rapid growth conditions, PRC and South Korea have been able to increase their share of participation in highly.cited papers. As of 2003, PRC and South Korea have ratios comparable to nations like Japan, France, Italy. and Australia but not y.t approaching those of the highly.cited countries. none of the top ten publications producing institutions are from the USA, while all of the top ten highly.cited publica- tions producers are from the USA. The zincblende ternary.alloy. Tl_xGa_（1-x） As（0 〈 x 〈 1） are studied by.numerical analy.is based on the plane wave pseudopotential method within the density.functional theory.and the local density.approximation. To model the alloy.,16-atom supercells with the 2 × 2 × 2 dimensions are used and the dependency.of the lattice parameter, bulk modulus,electronic structure, energy.b.nd gap, and optical bowing on the concentration x are analy.ed. The results indicate that the ternary.Tl_xGa_（1-x） As alloy. have an average b.nd gap bowing parameter of 4.48 eV for semiconductor alloy. and 2.412 eV for semimetals. It is found that the b.nd gap bowing strongly.depends on composition and alloy.ng a small Tl content with GaAs produces important modifications in the b.nd structures of the alloy..

We have studied the structural and atomic transport properties of liquid f-shell y. in the temperature range 1123 K–1473 K. Pair interactions between atoms are derived using a local pseudopotential. The potential parameters are fitted to the phonon dispersion curve at room temperature. The local pseudopotential used in the present study.is computationally.more efficient with only.three parameters, and it is found to be transferable to the liquid phase without changing the *** the various computed properties agree with reported theoretical and experimental findings, the adopted fitting scheme is justified. As a significant outcome of the study. we find that(i) the melting in y. is governed by.the Lindemann's law,(ii)the mass transport mechanism obey. the Arrhenius law,(iii) the role of the three-particle correlation function in deriving the velocity.autocorrelation function is small,(iv) the mean-square atomic displacement is more sensitive to the choice of interaction potential than the other bulk properties, and(v) liquid y. does not show liquid–liquid phase transition within the studied temperature range. Further, due to the good description of the structural and mass transport properties, we propose that y. remains divalent at reduced density.

Resistivity. magnetoresistivity.and Hall effect measurements in n-ty.e Te-doped GaSb grown by.the liquid encapsuled Czochralski technique are carried out as functions of temperature （35-350 K） and magnetic field （0-1.35 T）. The power law model is used to explain the temperature-dependent resistivity. The magnetic-field-dependent data are analy.ed using the quantitative mobility.spectrum analy.is technique. The effect of individual b.nd parameters （nL, nr, μL, μr, p and μp） on both the electron and magneto transports have been discussed. The EL - Er energy.separation between the L and conduction b.nd edges is also derived.
