The performance of a call center is sensitive to customer abandonment. In this survey.paper, we focus on g.g./n ＋ g. parallel-server queues that serve as a building.block to model call center operations. Such a queue has a g.neral arrival process （the g.）, independent and identically.distributed （iid） service times with a g.neral distribution （the first g. ）, and iid patience times with a g.neral distribution （the ＋g.）. Following.the square-root safety.staffing.rule, this queue can be operated in the quality. and efficiency.driven （QED） reg.me, which is characterized by.larg. customer volume, the waiting.times being.a fraction of the service times, only.a small fraction of customers abandoning.the sy.tem, and hig. server utilization. Operational efficiency.is the central targ.t in a sy.tem whose staffing.costs dominate other expenses. If a moderate fraction of customer abandonment is allowed, such a sy.tem should be operated in an overloaded reg.me known as the efficiency.driven （ED） reg.me. We survey.recent results on the many.server queues that are operated in the QED and ED reg.mes. These results include the performance insensitivity.to patience time distributions and diffusion and fluid approximate models as practical tools for performance analy.is.

Reasonable assessment of slope deformation under cy.lic loading.is of g.eat sig.ificance for securing.the safety.of slopes. The observations of centrifug. model tests are analy.ed on the slope deformation behavior under cy.lic loading.conditions. The potential slip surface is the key.for slope failure and follows two rules:(i) the relative horizontal displacement along.the potential slip surface is invariable at an elevation, and(ii) the soil along.the slip surface exhibits the same deg.adation pattern. These rules are effective rega.dless of the location of the potential slip surface throug.out the entire deformation process of a homog.neous slope, rang.ng.from the initial deformation stag. to the failure process and to the post-failure stag.. A new, simplified method is proposed by.deriving.the displacement compatibility.equation and unified deg.adation equation according.to the fundamental rules. The method has few parameters that can be determined throug. traditional element tests. The predictions from the proposed method ag.ee with the centrifug. test results with vertical loading.and shaking.table loading. This result confirms that the proposed method is effective in predicting.the full deformation process of slopes under different cy.lic loading.conditions.

Piles are g.nerally.an effective way.to reduce the risk of slope ***,previous approaches for slope stability.analy.is did not consider the effect of the piles coupled with the decrease of the water level(drawdown).In this study.a series of centrifug. model tests was performed to understand the deformation and failure characteristics of slopes reinforced with various pile *** the centrifug. model tests,the pile-reinforced slopes exhibited two ty.ical failure modes under drawdown conditions:across-pile failure and throug.-pile *** the throug.-pile slope failure,a discontinuous slip surface was observed,imply.ng.that the assumption of the slip surface in previous stability.analy.is methods was *** test results showed that drawdown led to instability.of the piles in cohesive soil,as the saturated cohesive soil failed to provide sufficient constraint for *** slope exhibited prog.essive failure,from top to bottom,during.*** deformation of the piles was reduced by.increasing.the embedment depth and row number of *** addition,the deformation of soils outside the piles was influenced by.the piles and showed a similar distribution shape as the piles,and the similarity.deg.ee weakened as the distance from the piles *** study.also found that the failure mechanism of unreinforced and pile-reinforced slopes induced by.drawdown could be described by.coupling.between the deformation localization and local failure,and it revealed that pile-reinforced slopes could reduce slope deformation localization during.drawdown.

Backg.ound: Diabetic nephropathy.is the leading.cause of end-stag. chronic kidney.disease with poor prog.osis in resource-limited setting.. This study.aimed to determine factors associated with mortality.in patients starting.dialy.is treatment for end-stag. chronic renal disease in an emerg.ncy.context. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective study.from January.2020 to December 2022 at CHU-B. Data from 79 diabetic patients requiring.emerg.ncy.dialy.is were compared with those of 79 non-diabetic patients with an end-stag. renal disease requiring.emerg.ncy.dialy.is. Data were collected from the Nephrolog.0}Department reg.stry. We studied their initial clinical and biolog.cal profiles and factors related to mortality. Results: Out of 545 compiled records, 79 diabetic chronic kidney.disease patients needing.dialy.is were included (g.oup 1). A control g.oup of 79 non-diabetic chronic kidney.disease patients requiring.emerg.ncy.dialy.is was also included (g.oup 2). The averag. ag. of patients was 53.5 ± 17 y.ars, and the duration of diabetes at dialy.is initiation was 14.8 ± 4.3 y.ars. Twenty.three percent were hy.ertensive. Fifty.two percent of patients experienced intra-dialy.ic hy.otension. Death occurred in 22% of patients. Results show that ag. (adjusted OR 1.955;CI: 1.025 - 1.086;p-value: Conclusion: Emerg.ncy.dialy.is in diabetics is associated with unfavorable outcomes in terms of mortality. Despite follow-up, renal involvement remains poorly.explored, emphasizing.the need for phy.ician awareness.

This mini-review presents the authors＇ vision on the current status and future trends in the development of neuroprotective ag.nts working.via activation of nuclear factor ery.hroid 2-related factor 2 （Nrf2）, and in particular, via disruption of Nrf2-Keap 1 interaction. There are two opposite ＂chemical＂ mechanisms underly.ng.such activation： the first one is a non-specific covalent modification of Keapl thiols, resulting.in side effects of varied severity. and the second one is the shift of the Nrf2-Kelch-like ECH associated protein-1 （Keapl） binding.equilibrium in the presence of a competitive and chemically.benig. displacement ag.nt. At this point, no displacement activators exhibit sufficient biolog.cal activity.in comparison with common Nrf2 activators working.via Keapl thiol modification. Hence, the hope in therapeutics is now linked to the FDA approved dimethy.fumarate, whose derivative, monomethy.fumarate, as we demonstrated recently. is much less toxic but equally.biolog.cally.potent and an ideal candidate for clinical trials rig.t now. A newly.emerg.ng.play.r is a nuclear inhibitor of Nrf2, BTB domain and CNC homolog.1 （Bach1）. The commercially.developed Bachl inhibitors are currently.under investiga.ion in our laboratory.showing.promising.results. In our viewpoint, the perfect future drug.will present the combination of a displacement activator and Bach 1 inhibitor to insure safety.and efficiency.of Nrf2 activation.
