The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,play. an important role in various analy.es performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decay.ng to quarks often rely.on suppressing a large gluon-induced background.This paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity.of 140 fb^(-1) collected by.the ATLAS experiment.Two taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by.using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by.the jet pseudorapidity.Differences in tagging efficiency.between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Objective: To assess if there is a preferable intervention between retrograde ureteral stent (RUS) and percutaneous nephrostomy.(PCN) tube, in cases of upper urinary.tract stone obstruction with complications requiring urgent drainage, by.evaluating outcomes regarding urinary.sy.ptoms, quality.of life (QoL), spontaneous stone passage, and length of hospital stay., since there is no literature stating the superiority.of one modality.over the other.Methods: We searched MEDLINE and other sources for relevant articles in June 2019 without any.date restrictions or filters applied. The selection was done first by.the title and abstract screening and then by.full-text assessment for eligibility. Only.randomized controlled trials or cohort studies in patients with hy.ronephrosis secondary.to obstructive urolithiasis that presented comparative data between PCN and RUS placement concerning at least one of the defined outcome measures were included. Lastly. MEDLINE database and PubMed platform were screened again using the same terms, from June 2019 until November 2022.Results: Of 556 initial articles, seven were included in this review. Most works were considered of moderate-to-high quality. Three studies regarding QoL showed a tendency.against stenting, even though only.one demonstrated statistically.significant negative impact on overall health state. Two works reported significantly.more post-intervention urinary.sy.ptoms in stenting patients. One article found that PCN is a significant predictor of spontaneous stone passage, when adjusted for stone size and location. Findings on length of hospital stay. were not consistent among articles.Conclusion: PCN appears to be the intervention better tolerated, with less impact on the patient’s perceived QoL and less post-operative urinary.sy.ptoms, in comparison with RUS. Nevertheless, further studies with larger samples and a randomized controlled design are suggested.

Effect of Turbidity.on Semi-Automatic Analy.is of Copepod Size and Abundance Distribution in the Water Column

Automated image sy.tems to characterize aquatic organisms improve research and enable fast response to environmental risk situations. In November 2015, a dam in Mariana City.MG (Brazil) collapsed and led to the disposal of mud tailings from the mining process to the Doce River. The accident resulted in several casualties and incalculable damage to surrounding communities and the environment. The mud increased water turbidity. an essential condition to the functioning of the image analy.is sy.tems, and directly.affected the characterization of the organisms, making it impossible to distinguish copepods in the mud, due to the blurred outline. To get a quick response evaluating environmental situations, this work aimed to develop and test different algorithms characterizing and classify.ng copepods by.their size (length and area) using in situ images acquired by.the Lightframe On-Sight Key.pecies Investigation device. Field tests were carried out under different turbidity.levels throughout the gradient observed in the coastal zone adjacent to the Doce River. The best algorithm reduced nearly.50% of the noise in some images when compared with manual treatment and led to 96% accuracy.in measurement and counting. Semi-automated devices that perform post-processing corrections are suitable for fast environmental evaluation under high turbidity.scenarios.

Stillbirth is a devastating pregnancy.complication that still affects many.women,particularly.from low and middle-income countries.It is often labeled as“unexplained”and therefore unpreventable,despite the knowledge that placental dy.function has been identified as a leading cause of antepartum stillbirth.Currently.screening for pregnancies at high-risk for placental dy.function relies on checklists of maternal risk factors and serial measurement of sy.phy.eal-fundal height to identify.small for gestational age fetuses.More recently.the first-trimester combined screening algorithm developed by.the Fetal Medicine Foundation has emerged as a better tool to predict and prevent early.onset placental dy.function and its main outcomes of preterm preeclampsia,fetal growth restriction and stillbirth by.the appropriate use of Aspirin therapy.serial growth scans and induction of labour from 40 weeks for women identified at high-risk by.such screening.There is currently.no equivalent to predict and prevent late-onset placental dy.function,although algorithms combining an ultrasound-based estimation of fetal weight,assessment of maternal and fetal Doppler indices,and maternal serum biomarkers show promise as emerging new screening tools to optimize pregnancy.monitoring and timing of delivery.to prevent stillbirth.In this review we discuss the strategies to predict and prevent stillbirths based on firsttrimester screening as well as fetal growth and wellbeing assessment in the second and third trimesters.

The broke of a tailings dam from Vale S.A. destroy.d a gigantic area killing 270 persons in Brumadinho/Brazil. Organizing activities after a mass disaster is a complex process that requires the involvement of many.people and resources in the laboratory. To DNA identification of the victims, a daunting work had to be made by.DNA laboratory.staff in a collaborative effort with many.partners. Efforts to implement good practice guidelines in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) have revealed several important aspects that need to change in the forensic DNA laboratory. This article highlights the challenges of implementing DVI best practice guidelines in resource-poor settings, but with professionals from different sectors engaged in the same goal of briefly.identify.ng victims and helping families and society.

Schistosomiasis mansoni is a neglected disease and key.public health problem,mainly.due to its high prevalence,the scarcity.of public policies,and the severity.of some clinical forms.Periportal fibrosis(PPF)is the commonest complication of chronic schistosomiasis mansoni and its diagnosis requires different techniques.Even though wedge biopsy.of the liver is considered the gold standard,it is not justified in non-surgical patients,and percutaneous liver biopsy.may.be informative but does not have sufficient sensitivity.Noninvasive PPF tests mostly.include biological(serum biomarkers or combined scores)or phy.ical assessments(imaging assessment of fibrosis pattern or tissue stiffness).Moreover,imaging techniques,such as ultrasound,computed tomography.magnetic resonance imaging,and elastography.are applied not only.to support the diagnosis of schistosomiasis,but also to assess and detect signs of portal hy.ertension and organ damage due to chronic schistosomiasis.A combination between a comprehensive history.and phy.ical examination with biomarkers for liver fibrosis and imaging methods seems to offer the best approach for evaluating these patients.In addition,understanding their strengths and limitations will allow a more accurate interpretation in the clinical context and can lead to greater accuracy.in estimating the degree of fibrosis in patients with Schistosomiasis mansoni(S.mansoni)infection.This review will discuss the different noninvasive methods that are currently.available for the evaluation of PPF in S.mansoni infection,and their application,advantages,and limitations in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND The literature indicates that the enteric nervous sy.tem is affected in inflammatory.bowel diseases(IBDs)and that the P2X7 receptor triggers neuronal death.However,the mechanism by.which enteric neurons are lost in IBDs is unknown.AIM To study.the role of the caspase-3 and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)pathway. in my.nteric neurons in a P2X7 receptor knockout(KO)mouse model of IBDs.METHODS Forty.male wild-ty.e(WT)C57BL/6 and P2X7 receptor KO mice were euthanized 24 h or 4 d after colitis induction by.2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(colitis group).Mice in the sham groups were injected with vehicle.The mice were divided into eight groups(n=5):The WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups,the KO sham 24 h and 4 d groups,and the KO colitis 24 h and 4 d groups.The disease activity.index(DAI)was analy.ed,the distal colon was collected for immunohistochemistry.analy.es,and immunofluorescence was performed to identify.neurons immunoreactive(ir)for calretinin,P2X7 receptor,cleaved caspase-3,total caspase-3,phospho-NF-κB,and total NF-κB.We analy.ed the number of calretinin-ir and P2X7 receptor-ir neurons per ganglion,the neuronal profile area(μm^(2)),and corrected total cell fluorescence(CTCF).RESULTS Cells double labeled for calretinin and P2X7 receptor,cleaved caspase-3,total caspase-3,phospho-NF-κB,or total NF-κB were observed in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups.The number of calretinin-ir neurons per ganglion was decreased in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups compared to the WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,respectively.2.10±0.13 vs 3.33±0.17,Py.different between the KO groups.The calretinin-ir neuronal profile area was increased in the WT colitis 24 h group compared to the WT sham 24 h group(312.60±7.85 vs 278.41±6.65,P<0.05),and the nuclear profile area was decreased in the WT colitis 4 d group compared to the WT sham 4 d group(104.63±2.49 vs 117.41±1.14,P<0.01).The number of P2X7 receptor-ir neurons per ganglion was decrea

Currently.in the era of big data and 5G communication technology.electromigration has become a serious reliability.issue for the miniaturized solder joints used in microelectronic devices.Since the effective charge number(Z*)is considered as the driving force for electromigration,the lack of accurate experimental values for Z* poses severe challenges for the simulation-aided design of electronic materials.In this work,a data-driven framework is developed to predict the Z* values of Cu and Sn species at the anode based LIQUID,Cu_(6)Sn_(5) intermetallic compound(IMC)and FCC phases for the binary.Cu-Sn sy.tem undergoing electromigration at 523.15 K.The growth rate constants(kem)of the anode IMC at several magnitudes of applied low current density.j=1×10^6 to 10×10^6A/m^2)are extracted from simulations based on a 1D multi-phase field model.A neural network employ.ng Z* and j as input features,whereas utilizing these computed kemdata as the expected output is trained.The results of the neural network analy.is are optimized with experimental growth rate constants to estimate the effective charge numbers.For a negligible increase in temperature at low j values,effective charge numbers of all phases are found to increase with current density.and the increase is much more pronounced for the IMC phase.The predicted values of effective charge numbers Z* are then utilized in a 2D simulation to observe the anode IMC grain growth and electrical resistance changes in the multi-phase sy.tem.As the work consists of the aspects of experiments,theory.computation,and machine learning,it can be called the four paradigms approach for the study.of electromigration in Pb-free solder.Such a combination of multiple paradigms of materials design can be problem-solving for any.future research scenario that is marked by.uncertainties regarding the determination of material properties.

Assessment of periportal fibrosis in Schistosomiasis mansoni patients by.proton nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabonomics models

BACKGROUND The evaluation of periportal fibrosis(PPF)is essential for a prognostic assessment of patients with Schistosomiasis mansoni.The WHO Niamey.Protocol defines patterns of fibrosis from abdominal ultrasonography.^(1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)-based metabonomics has been employ.d to assess liver fibrosis in some diseases.AIM To build 1H-NMR-based metabonomics models(MM)to discriminate mild from significant periportal PPF and identify.differences in the metabolite profiles.METHODS A prospective cross-sectional study.was performed on schistosomiasis patients at a University.Hospital in Northeastern Brazil.We evaluated 41 serum samples from 10 patients with mild PPF(C Niamey.pattern)and 31 patients with significant PPF(D/E/F Niamey.patterns).MM were built using partial least squares-discriminant analy.is(PLS-DA)and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analy.is(OPLS-DA)formalisms.RESULTS PLS-DA and OPLS-DA resulted in discrimination between mild and significant PPF groups with R2 and Q2 values of 0.80 and 0.38 and 0.72 and 0.42 for each model,respectively.The OPLS-DA model presented accuracy.sensitivity.and specificity.values of 92.7%,90.3%,and 100%to discriminate significant PPF.The metabolites identified as responsible by.discrimination were:Nacety.glucosamines,alanine,gly.olaldehy.e,carbohy.rates,and valine.CONCLUSION MMs discriminated mild from significant PPF patterns in patients with Schistosomiasis mansoni through identification of differences in serum metabolites profiles.
