Serum positive cagA in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia and peptic ulcer disease from two centers in different regions of Turkey

AIm: To investigate and compare frequencies of serum positive cagA in patients from two separate regions of Turkey who were grouped according to the presence of peptic ulcer disease or non-ulcer ***: One hundred and eighty Helicobacter pyloripositive patients with peptic ulcer disease or non-ulcer dyspepsia were included in the study. One hundred and fourteen patients had non-ulcer dyspepsia and 66 had peptic ulcer disease (32 with gastric ulcers and/or erosions and 34with duodenal ulcers). Each patient was tested for serum antibody to H. pylori cagA protein by enzyme ***: The total frequency of serum positive cagA in the study group was 97.2 %. The rates in the patients with peptic ulcers and in those with non-ulcer dyspepsia were 100% and 95.6%, respectively. These results were similar to those reported in Asian studies, but higher than those that have been noted in other studies from Turkey and Western ***: The high rates of serum positive cagA in these patients with peptic ulcer disease and non-ulcer dyspepsia were similar to results reported in Asia. The fact that there was high seroum prevalence regardless of ulcer status suggests that factors other than cagA might be responsible for ulceration or other types of severe pathology in H. pylori-positive individuals.

Hepatic fibrosis in biliary-obstructed rats is prevented by ginkgo biloba treatment

AIm： To assess the antioxidant and antifibrotic effects of long-term ginkgo biloba administration on liver fibrosis induced by biliary obstruction in rats. mETHODS： liver fibrosis was induced in male Wistar albino rats by bile duct ligation and scission （BDl）. ginkgo biloba extract （Egb 761, 50 mg/*** d） or saline was administered for 28 d. At the end of the treatment period, all rats were killed. Serum aspartate aminotransferase （AST）, alanine aminotransferase （AlT）, and lactate dehydrogenase （lDH） levels were determined to assess liver functions and tissue damage, respectively. Tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） was also assayed in serum samples. liver tissues were taken for determination of the hepatic malondialdehyde （mDA） and glutathione （gSH） levels, myeloperoxidase （mPO） activity and collagen content. Production of reactive oxidants was monitored by chemiluminescence （Cl） assay. Serum AST, AlT, lDH, and TNF-α levels were elevated in the BDl group as compared to control group and were significantly decreased by Egb treatment. RESUlTS： Hepatic gSH level, depressed by BDl, was elevated back to control level in Egb-treated BDl group. Increase in tissue mDA level, mPO activity and collagen content due to BDl were also attenuated by Egb treatment. Furthermore, luminol and lucigenin Cl values in BDl group increased dramatically compared to control and reduced by Egb treatment. CONClUSION： Our results suggest that ginkgo biloba protects the liver from oxidative damage following BDl in rats. This effect possibly involves the inhibition of neutrophil infiltration and lipid peroxidation; thus, restoration of oxidant and antioxidant status in the tissue.

microstructural analysis of EN-gJS-450-10 ductile cast iron via vibrational casting

EN-gJS-450-10 ductile cast iron was produced with and without vibration to evaluate microstructural features. To investigate the effect of vibration, a reference, and two different castings having amplitudes of 0.9 mm and 1.8 mm were cast with a fixed vibration frequency of 50 Hz. The nodule count (density), form (type), size distribution, nodularity, and the fraction of graphite, percentages of both ferrite and pearlite phases, length of ferrite shell, and pore, were evaluated via optical microscopy using an image analysis software. It is observed that the microstructure of the cast iron is more uniform by vibrational casting than that by non-vibrational casting. Additionally, mechanical vibration enhances nodule count and nodularity, also, more ferritic matrix could be obtained after the application of vibration. Nodule count and nodularity of vibrational casting with 1.8 mm amplitude increased from 226 nodule per mm2 and 80% to 311 nodule per mm2 and 86.5% of non-vibrational casting. Percentages of ferrite and graphite area dramatically improved from 24% and 16.5% for non-vibrational casting to 57% and 22.3% for vibrational casting with 1.8 mm amplitude, whereas the percentages of pearlite and pores decreased significantly from 56.1% and 5% to 20% and 1%, respectively.

Weibull analysis of fluidity and hardness of ultrasonical y degassed secondary Al7Si0.3mg aluminum alloy

The influence of ultrasonic degassing process on fluidity and hardness of secondary Al7Si0.3mg alloy castings was studied by Weibull analysis. This work makes a contribution about fluidity and hardness distribution of secondary aluminum alloys with ultrasonic degassing phenomena using a two-parameter form of Weibull analysis. Results show that both hardness and fluidity of alloy are improved after the ultrasonic degassing process. Average efficiency of ultrasonic degassing on fluidity measurements is 31.71%, whereas on hardness values is 8.48%. The Brinell hardness of 45.7 and fluidity of 19.5 of Weibull modulus were achieved as the most reliable and reproducible after 45 s ultrasonic degassing process against 15 s and 30 s ultrasonic degassing processes. The value of 70.08 HB is obtained from ultrosonic degassing, which is equivalent to sand casting of primary Al7Si0.3mg aluminum alloy, and the highest value of 56.4 cm for 45 s after ultrasonic degassing of fluidity was measured.

Thermochemical heat storage(THS)systems have recently attracted a lot of attention in research and *** this study,an anodic aluminum oxide(AAO)template,fabricated by a two-step anodization method,was used for the first time as the matrix material for a THS *** salts were studied as thermochemical materials for their suitability in low-grade heat storage application driven by solar energy for an open *** were prepared by absorbing CaCl2,mgCl2,liCl,liNO3 and mixtures of these salts under a vacuum in an AAO *** Emission Scanning Electron microscopy was used to examine the morphology of the produced AAO *** energy storage capacities of the composites were characterized using a differential scanning *** analysis showed that anodized Al plates were suitable matrix materials for THS systems,and composite sorbent prepared with a 1:1 ratio liCl/liNO3 salt mixture had the highest energy value among all composites,with an energy density of 468.1 k J·kg-1.

AIm:To investigate tomographic features of late corneal ectasia after keratoplasty for keratoconus and compare penetrating keratoplasty(PK)and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DAlK)in terms of incidence,time of onset and risk factors of corneal ***:Sixty eyes with PK and 30 eyes with DAlK operated between 1999 and 2021 were *** Pentacam scans were evaluated together with vision and previous *** outcome measures were vision,K values,apparent thinning on graft-host cornea and the difference between opposing quadrants in the thinnest point *** segment optic coherence tomography was performed for further ***:mean follow-up was 127.2mo(24–282mo)in PK,and 64.3mo(24–144mo)in DAlK.K max was higher in DAlK(60.6 vs 56.7 D,P=0.012).Inferior recipient was thinner(595.9μm)in PK than DAlK(662.2μm,P=0.021),due to longer *** corneal ectasia rate was 20.0% within *** rate was the same(6.7%)in DAlK 2/30 and in PK 4/60 in 10y and 13.3%in 12y(4/30 and 8/60,respectively).It increased to 23.3%(14/60)in PK over *** ectasia was not seen before 7y in PK,it could be seen in DAlK starting from the 5^(th) *** intervals between keratoplasty and ectasia were 144.5mo in PK and 99mo in *** recipient was significantly thinner in 18 eyes with ectasia(502.7μm)compared to 76 non-ectasia(649.1μm,P=0.000).Inferior graft was thinner(561.0 vs 620.4μm,P=0.006),K max(63.3 vs 56.5 D,P=0.000),and anterior elevation was higher in ectasia(89.1 vs 48.6μm,P=0.002).Accelerated crosslinking was performed on 5 ***:Inferior-superior recipient and inferior graft thinning on tomography,with high K max and anterior elevation emerge as the most reliable criteria for the diagnosis of late *** incidence of corneal ectasia increases with the time.

methodology for determination of correction factors in direct gamma spectrometric measurement of radionuclides in sediments

In this study, the practical methodologies are described for the determination of the factors for the selfabsorption effect（Fs）, spectral interferences(Fcsi), and true coincidence summing effects(Fcoi), which are used in direct gamma-spectrometric measurement of radionuclides such as210Pb,238U,234Th,226Ra,214Pb,228Ac,208Tl,214Bi,137Cs and40K in samples. To validate the applied methods, certified reference materials（CRms） of lake and stream sediments were measured with an n-type germanium（ge）detector-calibrated using a multinuclide reference source. The highest self-absorption correction factors ranged from Fs= 1.44-2.10 for 46.5 keV peak（210 Pb） and Fs= 1.25-1.60 for 63.3 keV peak(234Th) lying in the low energy region of the spectrum. The systematic influence was observed for 186.2 keV（226 Ra）peak due to spectral interferences with the 235 U contribution. For this peak, Fcsiis changed from 0.921 to0.955. Additionally, the present study suggests that true coincidence summing（TCS） effects are not dominant, except for 208 T1 and 214 Bi for which Fcoiranged from 1.179 to 1.192 an ranged from 1.140 to1.151, respectively.
