Spatial variation in bigeye tuna Thunnus obesus size at sexual maturity in the eastern Pacific Ocean

Understanding the reproductive characteristics of a species is of crucial for accurate stock assessment and management plans to ensure sustainable fisheries.In this study,the size at 50%sexual maturity(L50)parameters in different bio-ecological provinces were estimated for bigeye tuna,Thunnus obesus,sampled from the Eastern Pacific Ocean tuna fisheries-dependent survey from 2013 to 2019.The overall sex ratio of the catch during the sampling differed significantly from 1:1.Bigeye tuna exhibit sexual dimorphism in the growth of males and females,with a clear shift in predominance from female to male with increasing sizes.In the North Pacific Sub-tropical Gyre(east)(NPST-east),North Pacific Tropical Gyre(NPTG),Pacific North Equatorial Countercurrent(PNEC),and Pacific Equatorial Divergence(PEQD),females(meals)reached sexual maturity round 102 cm(106 cm),106 cm(100 cm),125 cm(110 cm),and 113 cm(110 cm),respectively,the estimated L50 of bigeye tuna was 124.08 cm,121.97 cm,139.92 cm and 132.45 cm,respectively.The degree of populations mixing between equatorial(PNEC and PEQD)and high-latitude regions(NPST-east and NPTG)is extremely small,but it is reasonably high between the NPST-east and NPTG or PNEC and PEQD.These parameters were significantly different,suggesting the occurrence of a spatial difference in the size-at-maturity of bigeye tuna between these bio-ecological provinces.The findings of this study provide the key information for understanding the life history of bigeye tuna in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and will contribute to the conservation and sustainable yield of this species.

Comparison of nominal and standardized catch per unit effort data in quantifying habitat suitability of skipjack tuna in the equatorial Pacific Ocean

In the western and central Pacific Ocean,upper strata waters exhibit highly dynamic oceanographic features under ENSO variability.This has been proved to be responsible for the dynamic change of both abundance and zonal distribution of skipjack tuna(Katsuwonus pelamis).Although causality has been suggested by researchers using physical-biological interaction models,cumulative evidence needs to be obtained and the tenability of assertion needs to be tested from an ecological habitat perspective,based on fisheries data.For purse seine fishery,the use of catch per unit effort(CPUE)as an indication of the abundance is confusing because of technical improvements over the whole exploitation history and unbalanced individual fishing characteristic of vessels.It is particularly interesting to discriminate between habitat characteristics in comparative scenarios of CPUE application.This study identified habitat traits based on a series of oceanographic factors from a global ocean reanalysis model.A comparison was conducted between two habitat models based on unprocessed purse seine CPUE and standardized CPUE considering fishing characteristics.The results suggest that standardized CPUE could model the regular zonal shift of habitat compatible with the observed fishing efforts transfer,and achieved better prediction capacity than unprocessed CPUE.Furthermore,the habitat of skipjack tuna was also characterized and linked with surface and subsurface thermal environment,ocean current,dissolved oxygen,biotic environment,and ENSO variability.The monthly-averaged habitat suitable index,derived from the optimal habitat model prediction,showed a significant linear relationship with the southern oscillation index,which suggested that El Ni?o episodes eventually provide more preferable habitat for skipjack tuna under ENSO variability.

Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide inhibits LPS-induced inflammatory injury to mammary epithelial cells

This study sought to investigate whether Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide(GLP)has a protective effect on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced inflammatory injury to mammary epithelial HC-11 cells and to characterize the mechanism involved.Cell viability was assessed using the cell counting kit 8(CCK-8)method,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6)and IL-1βlevels were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and IκBa,p65 NF-κB and STAT3 mRNA were determined using quantitative reverse transcription PCR(qRT-PCR),p65 and STAT3 protein expression were determined using Western blotting,respectively.GLP was shown to inhibit LPS-induced TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1βproduction(P<0.01 or P<0.05),GLP was also shown to increase IκBαmRNA expression(P<0.01),decrease p65 and STAT3 mRNA expression(P<0.01 or P<0.05),and decrease p-p65,p65,p-STAT3,and STAT3 protein expression in breast epithelial cells(P<0.01 or P<0.05).The findings suggest that GLP inhibits nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB)and signal transducers and activators of transcription(STAT)signaling by preventing IκBαdegradation and p65 and STAT3 phosphorylation.This results in lower LPS-induced TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1βproduction and prevents inflammatory cell injury.

Comparative advantages of chemical compositions of specific edible vegetable oils

As important supplementary to major edible oils, comparative chemical advantages of minor edible oils decidetheir development and usage. In this study, chemical composition of 13 kinds of specific edible vegetable oilswere investigated. The comparative advantages of chemical compositions of these edible oils were obtained asfollows: (1) camellia, tiger nut and almond oil were rich in oleic acid, the contents of which accounted for79.43%, 69.16% and 66.26%, respectively;(2) safflower oil contained the highest content of linoleic acid(76.69%), followed by grape seed (66.85%) and walnut oil (57.30%);(3) perilla seed, siritch, peony seed andherbaceous peony seed oil were rich in α-linolenic acid (59.61%, 43.74%, 40.83% and 30.84%, respectively);(4)the total phytosterol contents of these oils ranged from 91.46 mg/100 g (camellia oil) to 506.46 mg/100 g (siritchoil);and (5) The best source of tocopherols was sacha inchi oil (122.74 mg/100 g), followed by perilla seed oil(55.89 mg/100 g), peony seed oil (53.73 mg/100 g) and herbaceous peony seed oil (47.17 mg/100 g). Thecomparative advantages of these specific edible oils indicated that they possess the high potential nutritionalvalues and health care functions.

Chemical composition of walnuts from three regions in China

To reveal the characteristic chemicals of walnuts from different origins, we analyzed fatty acid composition,tocopherols, phytosterols and total phenolic content (TPC) of walnuts from three main producing regions inChina. The results showed that walnuts were rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, and the ratio of ω-6 to ω-3 fattyacids was close to the recommendation of Chinese Nutrition Society. Moreover, walnuts contain high contents oftocopherols (331.20–414.71 mg/kg), phytosterols (97.17–110.35 mg/100 g) and phenols (38.51–48.08 mg GAE/kg). Significant chemical differences exist among walnuts from three production regions. The highest content ofpolyunsaturated fatty acids was found in walnuts from the northern China, the highest content of tocopherols inwalnuts from southwest China, and the highest contents of phytosterol and TPC in walnuts from northwest China.However, there was no significant difference in the tocopherol, phytosterol and TPC content of walnuts betweenthe Northern China and Northwest China. The above results provide important references for manufacturers andconsumers to select suitable walnut scientifically and reasonably.

鲜有文献基于中国的微观数据探讨儒家文化如何影响家庭社会捐赠与共同富裕这一极具现实意义的话题。基于2010—2020年中国家庭追踪调查(CFPS)微观数据,采用各城市孔庙数量、清代进士人数和儒家书院数量等指标互为补充地衡量当地儒家文化浓厚程度,系统探究了儒家文化对家庭社会捐赠与共同富裕的影响作用。研究发现:(1)儒家文化对家庭社会捐赠具有显著的促进作用,具体表现为提升了家庭社会捐赠倾向并扩大了家庭社会捐赠规模。(2)潜在的影响机制分析发现,儒家文化通过提升主观幸福感、生活满意度和家国情怀促进了家庭社会捐赠。(3)异质性检验结果显示,儒家文化对家庭社会捐赠的影响作用在不同地区、不同家庭之间存在一定差异。(4)调节效应检验结果表明,贫富差距大会强化儒家文化对家庭社会捐赠的促进作用,而邻里效应和对外开放程度弱化了这一促进作用。(5)进一步研究发现,儒家文化通过促进家庭社会捐赠支出缓解了收入不平等程度、促进了共同富裕。因此,应当大力弘扬儒家文化、积极提升普惠金融发展质效、积极孵化培育慈善组织和不断提升医疗保险覆盖率。

Comparing different spatial interpolation methods to predict the distribution of fishes:A case study of Coilia nasus in the Changjiang River Estuary

Spatial-temporal distribution of marine fishes is strongly influenced by environmental factors.To obtain a more continuous distribution of these variables usually measured by stationary sampling designs,spatial interpolation methods(SIMs)is usually used.However,different SIMs may obtain varied estimation values with significant differences,thus affecting the prediction of fish spatial distribution.In this study,different SIMs were used to obtain continuous environmental variables(water depth,water temperature,salinity,dissolved oxygen(DO),p H,chlorophyll a and chemical oxygen demand(COD))in the Changjiang River Estuary(CRE),including inverse distance weighted(IDW)interpolation,ordinary Kriging(OK)(semivariogram model:exponential(OKE),Gaussian(OKG)and spherical(OKS))and radial basis function(RBF)(regularized spline function(RS)and tension spline function(TS)).The accuracy and effect of SIMs were cross-validated,and two-stage generalized additive model(GAM)was used to predict the distribution of Coilia nasus from 2012 to 2014 in CRE.DO and COD were removed before model prediction due to their autocorrelation coefficient based on variance inflation factors analysis.Results showed that the estimated values of environmental variables obtained by the different SIMs differed(i.e.,mean values,range etc.).Cross-validation revealed that the most suitable SIMs of water depth and chlorophyll a was IDW,water temperature and salinity was RS,and p H was OKG.Further,different interpolation results affected the predicted spatial distribution of Coilia nasus in the CRE.The mean values of the predicted abundance were similar,but the differences between and among the maximum value were large.Studies showed that different SIMs can affect estimated values of the environmental variables in the CRE(especially salinity).These variations further suggest that the most applicable SIMs to each variable will also differ.Thus,it is necessary to take these potential impacts into consideration when studying the relationship between the spatial d

为利用具有潜在活性的固体废弃物电炉镍渣,制备单组分电炉镍渣基地聚物修补砂浆.基于正交实验和极差分析,通过掺入掺合料并改变碱模数和碱当量等关键影响因素,对地聚物砂浆各项修补性能进行调控,获取满足修补性能的最优配合比,确定各因素对修补性能的影响主次.结果表明,最优配比是矿渣掺量为30%,粉煤灰掺量为30%,碱模数为1.2,碱当量为6.5%,其28 d抗压、抗折强度分别为90.29、9.23 MPa,干燥收缩率为0.56×10-3,14 d拉伸粘结强度为3.64 MPa,满足修补砂浆规范要求.经比较,矿渣掺量对修补砂浆性能调控影响最为显著.

Degradability evaluation for natural material fibre used on fish aggregation devices(FADs)in tuna purse seine fishery

Purse seiners deploy large amounts of drifting fish aggregation devices(FADs)in all tropical oceans to catch tunas.These FADs are constructed with porous synthetic fibre netting,which are responsible for incidental mortality of sea turtles and sharks through entanglement,and can engage in ghost fishing if they are lost and abandoned.The use of natural or biodegradable materials to build FADs can effectively mitigate marine pollution and bycatch issues,and as such they are currently promoted by fisheries management organizations.This study evaluated the degradability of ropes made of common natural fibres;cotton rope(3-strand,96-thread,twisted,S-lay),jute rope(3-strand,13-thread,twisted,Z-lay)and sisal rope(3-strand,8-thread,twisted,Z-lay).Degradability was evaluated by measuring the breaking strength(cN/dtex)and retention ratio of rupture elongation.Results showed that jute rope and sisal rope experienced rapid reduction of strength which over the first month soaking in the sea fell by 66.8%and 46.9%,respectively.Cotton rope exhibited the most inert degradation behavior,with breaking strength maintained at half of the initial value at 10 months.The retention ratio of rupture elongation for jute ropes and sisal ropes fluctuated considerably in the following months after deployment,compared to the relatively stable change for cotton rope.Results suggested that among these congeners,cotton rope would be most preferable component for Bio-FADs with a 10-month minimum durability that matches the required lifetime of FAD fishing strategies.
