Transmissive reconfigurable metasurface enabling independent control of active and passive modules through weak coupling

Metasurfaces have demonstrated rich electromagnetic control capabilities and degrees of freedom in past years. As is well known, for passive metasurfaces, their functionalities cannot be further expanded accordingly once prototypes are established. Therefore, reconfigurable metasurfaces, utilizing active devices to replace geometric changes in passive structures, have received widespread attention, especially with the development of wireless communication recently. In reconfigurable metasurfaces, artificial meta-atoms are composed of active devices and passive structures combined together. However, these two modules are usually utilized as a whole due to the tight coupling of the active devices and the passive structures, which results in passive structures not receiving sufficient attention and being utilized as independent degrees of freedom. In this article, we propose the concept of weakly coupled reconfigurable metasurfaces in transmissive systems, enabling independent control of active and passive modules through weak coupling. As the proof of concept, a simple weakly coupled system is proposed, which can realize the transmission wavefront engineering through the geometric changes of meta-structures in passive mode, while achieving switching between transmission and reflection states in active mode, respectively. Our exploration lies in making use of the physical structure, which is easily neglected in traditional reconfigurable metasurface design, emphasizing the collaborative work of active and passive modules, exploring more available variables within the same aperture, and providing a potential solution for balancing functionality and resource consumption in practical applications.

Sources, enrichment mechanisms, and resource effects of rare metal elements-enriched geothermal springs in Xizang, China

Rare metals such as lithium(Li), rubidium(Rb), and cesium(Cs) are strategically crucial mineral resources for the development of emerging industries in China. Ensuring a stable long-term supply of these resources is essential. The geothermal systems in Xizang, China are well-developed, with a wide distribution of various types. Most high-temperature geothermal systems in Xizang are exceptionally enriched in rare metal elements(RMEs) and have the potential to become a new source of rare metals to secure China's strategic mineral resource supply in the future. A close relationship also exists between the geothermal system and the special salt lake resources on the Tibetan Plateau. Geothermal springs thus play a key role in the migration and enrichment of RMEs from deep to shallow parts of the crust, in the transition between endogenous and exogenous mineralization, and source-to-sink processes. However, the mechanisms of element enrichment and evolution in these springs have not been systematically discussed, and many theoretical issues remain to be investigated. Based on summarizing and analyzing previous research, this study employs hydrochemical and isotopic geochemistry methods to investigate typical geothermal springs across Xizang and explore the anomalous enrichment mechanism of RMEs, and the resource effects of geothermal springs. Comprehensive analysis shows that the total dissolved solids(TDS) and hydrochemical types of geothermal springs are similar to those of major geothermal fields worldwide, but the Tibetan springs are abnormally rich in Li(averaging5.48 mg/L), Rb(averaging 0.75 mg/L), and Cs(averaging 3.58 mg/L), which are hundreds to thousands of times more concentrated than natural waters. The distribution of these enriched geothermal springs is controlled by the Yarlung Zangbo suture zone and the extended N-S trending rifts, especially in the intersection zone of the two, where the geothermal springs are the most enriched. Polyploidization is a major driver of speciation and its importance to plant evolution has been well *** comprise one diploid herbaceous and three polyploid woody lineages,and are members of the only major subfamily in grasses that diversified in forests,with the woody members having a tree-like lignified *** this study,we generated four draft genome assemblies of major bamboo lineages with three different ploidy levels(diploid,tetraploid,and hexaploid).We also constructed a high-density genetic linkage map for a hexaploid species of bamboo,and used a linkage-map-based strategy for genome assembly and identification of subgenomes in *** phylogenomic analyses using a large dataset of syntenic genes with expected copies based on ploidy levels revealed that woody bamboos originated subsequent to the divergence of the herbaceous bamboo lineage,and experienced complex reticulate evolution through three independent allopolyploid events involving four extinct diploid ancestors.A shared but distinct subgenome was identified in all polyploid forms,and the progenitor of this subgenome could have been critical in ancient polyploidizations and the origin of woody *** genetic clues to the unique flowering behavior and woody trait in bamboos were also *** together,our study provides significant insights into ancient reticulate evolution at the subgenome level in the absence of extant donor species,and offers a potential model scenario for broad-scale study of angiosperm origination by allopolyploidization.

Ant-nest-inspired porous structure for MXene composites with high-performance energy-storage and actuating multifunctions

Integrating energy-storage devices(supercapacitors)and shape-deformation devices(actuators)advances the miniaturization and multifunctional development of soft ***,soft robots necessitate supercapacitors with high energy-storage performance and actuators with excellent actuation ***,inspired by ant nests,we present a porous structure fabricated by MXene-graphene-methylcellulose(M-GMC)composite,which overcomes the self-stacking of MXene nanosheets and offers a larger specific surface *** porous structure provides more channels and active sites for electrolyte ions,resulting in high energy storage *** areal capacitance of the M-GMC electrode reaches up to 787.9 mF·cm^(−2),significantly superior to that of the pristine MXene electrode(449.1 mF·cm^(−2)).Moreover,the M-GMC/polyethylene bilayer composites with energy storage and multi-responsive actuation functions are *** M-GMC is used as the electrode and the polyethylene is used as the encapsulation layer of the quasi-solid-state ***,the actuators fabricated by the bilayer composites can be driven by light or low voltage(≤9 V).The maximum bending curvature is up to 5.11 cm^(−1).Finally,a smart gripper and a fully encapsulated smart integrated circuit based on the M-GMC/polyethylene are *** smart gripper enables programmable control with multi-stage *** applications realize the intelligence and miniaturization of soft *** ant-nest-inspired M-GMC composites would provide a promising development strategy for soft robots and smart integrated devices.

Variational quantum algorithms for scanning the complex spectrum of non-Hermitian systems

Solving non-Hermitian quantum many-body systems on a quantum computer by minimizing the variational energy is challenging as the energy can be ***,we propose a variational quantum algorithm for solving the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian by minimizing a type of energy variance,where zero variance can naturally determine the eigenvalues and the associated left and right ***,the energy is set as a parameter in the cost function and can be tuned to scan the whole spectrum efficiently by using a two-step optimization *** numerical simulations,we demonstrate the algorithm for preparing the left and right eigenstates,verifying the biorthogonal relations,as well as evaluating the *** also investigate the impact of quantum noise on our algorithm and show that its performance can be largely improved using error mitigation ***,our work suggests an avenue for solving non-Hermitian quantum many-body systems with variational quantum algorithms on near-term noisy quantum computers.

Model-based offline reinforcement learning framework for optimizing tunnel boring machine operation

Research on automation and intelligent operation of tunnel boring machine(TBM)is receiving more and more attention,benefiting from the increasing construction ***,most studies on TBM operations optimization were trained by the labels of human drivers’decisions,which were subjective and *** a result,the control parameters suggested by these models could hardly surpass the performance of a human driver,even the possibility of subjective incorrect *** that the geomechanical feedback to TBM under drivers’actions is objective,in this paper,a transformer-based model called the geological response for tunnel boring machine(GRTBM),is proposed to learn the relationship between operation-adjust and TBM monitoring ***,with the model-based offline reinforcement learning,this paper provided a novel approach to optimizing the TBM excavation *** decision processes,recorded in the Yin-song TBM project for a waterway tunnel in Jilin Province of China,were used for the validation of the *** adopting an implicit perception of geological conditions in the GRTBM model,the suggested method achieved the desired state within a single action,greatly outperformed the practical adjustments where 500 s were taken,revealing the fact that the proposed model has the potential to surpass the capability of human beings.

Spinel MnCo_(2)O_(4) is a promising energy storage candidate as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries owing to synergistic effects of two intrinsic solid-state redox ***,low conductivity,poor rate capacity and rapid capacity fading have seriously impaired its practical *** overcome the inferiorities,urchin-like MnCo_(2)O_(4)@C core–shell nanowire arrays have been fabricated directly within a porous copper current collector via a facile hydrothermal method followed by a chemical vapor deposition carbonization *** a typical nanowire,the core is composed of interconnected MnCo_(2)O_(4)nanoparticles and the shell shows as a thin amorphous carbon *** integrated MnCo_(2)O_(4)@C/Cu structure could act as working anodes without using additives or polymer *** MnCo_(2)O_(4)@C/Cu possesses slightly longer Li-ion insertion/desertion pathway than that of MnCo_(2)O_(4)/Cu,the carbon shell could effectively prevent the pulverization of MnCo_(2)O_(4) and lower down charge transfer resistance and actively participate in Li-ion *** rearrangement of carbon atoms during lithiation/delithiation cycling could inhibit the formation of passive solid electrolyte interphase *** a result,the MnCo_(2)O_(4)@C/Cu electrode presents superior rate capacity(600 mAh·g^(−1) at 1 A·g^(−1)) and better stability(797 mAh·g^(−1) after 200 cycles at 100 mA·g^(−1)).The excellent reversible Li ion storage capacity,cycling stability and rate capacity endow MnCo_(2)O_(4)@C/Cu great potential as stable and high output integrated anode materials in Li-ion batteries.
