Targeting the net-zero emission(NZE)by 2050,the hydrogen industry is drastically developing in recent years.However,the technologies of hydrogen upstream production,midstream transportation and storage,and downstream utilization are facing obstacles.In this paper,the development of hydrogen industry from the production,transportation and storage,and sustainable economic development perspectives were reviewed.The current challenges and future outlooks were summarized consequently.In the upstream,blue hydrogen is dominating the current hydrogen supply,and an implementation of carbon capture and sequestration(CCS)can raise its cost by 30%.To achieve an economic feasibility,green hydrogen needs to reduce its cost by 75%to approximately 2$/kg at the large scale.The research progress in the midterm sector is still in a preliminary stage,where experimental and theoretical investigations need to be conducted in addressing the impact of embrittlement,contamination,and flammability so that they could provide a solid support for material selection and largescale feasibility studies.In the downstream utilization,blue hydrogen will be used in producing value-added chemicals in the short-term.Over the long-term,green hydrogen will dominate the market owing to its high energy intensity and zero carbon intensity which provides a promising option for energy storage.Technologies in the hydrogen industry require a comprehensive understanding of their economic and environmental benefits over the whole life cycle in supporting operators and policymakers.

The temperature-dependent absorption coefficient and thermal conductivity of a quartz window are obtained through experimental tests at a wide range of temperatures.A Fourier transform infrared spectrometer with a heated cavity is used for performing the transmittance measurements.The spectral absorption coefficient of the quartz window is inverted by the transmittance information at different temperatures using a genetic algorithm.Then,a quartz window-graphite plate-quartz window multilayer structure is designed,and the transient response of the structure subjected to high-temperature heating is recorded by a self-designed setup.Cooperating with the above absorption coefficient,a non-gray radiative-conductive heat transfer model is built for the multilayer structure,and the intrinsic thermal conductivity of the quartz window is identified.Finally,the effects of the temperature-dependent absorption coefficient and spectral selective features of the medium on the heat transfer characteristics are discussed.The results show that the absorption coefficient gradually increases with temperature.The intrinsic thermal conductivity of the quartz window varies from 1.35 to 2.52 W/(m·K)as the temperature rises,while the effective thermal conductivity is higher than the intrinsic thermal conductivity due to thermal radiation,specifically 26.4%higher at 1100 K.In addition,it is found that the influence of the temperature-dependent absorption coefficient on temperature of unheated side shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing.When the absorption coefficient varies greatly with wavelength,a non-gray radiative-conductive heat transfer model should be built for the semitransparent materials.

Neuroinflammation hinders repair of the central nervous system(CNS).Stem cell transplantation is a very promising approach for treatment of CNS injuries.However,it is difficult to select seed cells that can both facilitate nerve regeneration and improve the microenvironment in the CNS.In this study,we isolated multilineage-differentiating stress-enduring(Muse)cells from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.We explored the anti-inflammatory effect and mechanism of Muse cells in vitro by coculture of Muse cells with lipopolysaccharide-stimulated microglia.Our results showed that Muse cells effectively reduced the transcription and secretion of tumor necrosis factorαand interleukin-1βand increased the expression of transforming growth factor-βand interleukin-10 in microglia.In addition,Muse cells decreased the number of M1 microglia and increased the proportion of M2 microglia in an inflammatory environment more effectively than bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.We also show that Muse cells inhibited the protein expression of toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)and myeloid differentiation primary response protein(MyD88)and inhibited the expression of the phosphorylated forms of transcription factor p65,nuclear factor(NF)-κB inhibitor alpha,and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)in microglia.Therefore,we suggest Muse cells cause antineuroinflammatory effects by inhibition of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathways in microglia.Our results shed light on the function of Muse cells in relation to CNS diseases and provide insight into the selection of seed cells.

The genus Thuja is ideal for investigating the genetic basis of the East Asia-North America disjunction.The biogeographical background of the genus is debatable and an adaptive strategy is lacking.Through the analysis and mining of comparative transcriptomes,species differentiation and positively selected genes(PSGs)were identified to provide information for understanding the environmental adaptation strategies of the genus Thuja.De novo assembly yielded 44,397-74,252 unigenes of the five Thuja species with contig N50length ranging from 1,559 to 1,724 bp.Annotations revealed a similar distribution of functional categories among them.Based on the phylogenetic trees constructed using the transcriptome data,T.sutchuenensis was divided first,followed by T.plicata and T.occidentalis.The final differentiation of T.koraiensis and T.standishii formed a clade.Enrichment analysis indicated that the PSGs of the North American Thuja species were involved in plant hormone signal transduction and carbon fixation of photosynthetic organisms pathways.The PSGs of East Asian Thuja were related to phenolic,alkaloid,and terpenoid synthesis,important stress-resistant genes and could increase plant resistance to external environmental stresses.This study discovered numerous aroma synthetic-related PSGs including terpene synthase(TPS)genes and lipid phosphate phosphatase 2(LPP2),associated with the synthetic aroma of T.sutchuenensis.Physiological indicators,such as the contents of soluble sugars,total chlorophyll,total phenolics,and total flavonoids were determined,which are consistent with the PSGs enrichment pathways associated with adaptive strategies in the five Thuja species.The results of this study provide an important basis for future studies on conservation genetics.

The Qinling Orogen resulted from the collision between the North and South China blocks in the Triassic.Mesozoic granitoids,ranging from the Triassic to the Cretaceous,are widely distributed in this orogen,and they provide excellent clues for understanding the crustal evolution and geodynamic evolution of the orogenic belt.The Triassic belt is mostly located in the South Qinling,whereas the Cretaceous belt is located mostly in the North Qinling.The Taibai complex pluton is located at the conjunction of the two belts.Here we present a data set comprising zircon U-Pb dating and elemental and Sr-Nd isotopic geochemistry for Late Mesozoic granite and microgranular enclaves(MME)exposed in the Taibai complex pluton.The granite and MME yield concordant U-Pb zircon ages of 124 to 118 Ma,indicating that they were products of roughly simultaneous magmatism in the Late Mesozoic.The granite rocks are high-K,calc-alkaline,and weakly peraluminous in compositions,and they are characterized by enrichment in large ion lithophile elements(e.g.,Rb,Ba),depletion in high field strength elements(e.g.,Nb,Ta,Zr,Ti),and variable Sr/Y ratios of 7.64 to 63.6.Low MgO,Cr,and Ni contents imply that the magma(s)were essentially crust-derived.Both the granite and the MME show relative depletion in Sr-Nd isotopic composition(initial ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr of 0.7044 to 0.7067,initialε_(Nd) values of-3.4 to-2.6),suggesting that the magma(s)originated from juvenile crustal rocks.These Sr-Nd isotopic characteristics are significantly different from those of other Late Mesozoic granitoids exposed elsewhere in the Qinling orogenic belt,which formed from much older and enriched sources and with negligible contributions from mantle or juvenile crust.We propose a reworking event of the juvenile crust during the Late Mesozoic that was triggered by the tectonic extension and subsequent asthenospheric upwelling that occurred in eastern China.

Diversity of culturable alginate lyase-excreting bacteria associated with Sargassum

Large numbers of bacteria live on the surface of various brown algae and can produce alginate lyases to consume alginate,an important component of the cell wall of brown algae.Sargassum is a genus of the largest canopyforming brown algae of more than 150 species,which are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical environments.However,our knowledge about the epiphytic bacteria and the alginate lyase-excreting bacteria from Sargassum is still primitive.Here,we investigated the diversity of the culturable epiphytic bacteria and alginate-degrading bacteria from Sargassum samples collected from the coastal seawaters of Shandong Province,China.In total,37 strains belonging to 21 genera in 3 phyla were isolated,including 15 previously unreported genera,of which Vibrio(6/37)and Pseudoalteromonas(5/37)are the dominant genera.Eight strains,mainly Vibrio and Pseudoalteromonas species,were further identified as alginate lyase-excreting strains that can utilize alginate for growth.The extracellular alginolytic activity of the 8 strains was determined,and strains Vibrio sp.C42and Pseudoalteromonas sp.M9 showed the highest activity.These results provide a better understanding of brown algae epiphytes and alginate-degrading bacteria,and are fundamental for further studies on the interactions between brown algae and their epiphytes.

Advancements in genomics have dramatically accelerated the research on medicinal plants,and the development of herbgenomics has promoted the“Project of 1K Medicinal Plant Genome”to decipher their genetic code.However,it is difficult to obtain their high-quality whole genomes because of the prevalence of polyploidy and/or high genomic heterozygosity.Whole genomes of 123 medicinal plants were published until September 2022.These published genome sequences were investigated in this review,covering their classification,research teams,ploidy,medicinal functions,and sequencing strategies.More than 1,000 institutes or universities around the world and 50 countries are conducting research on medicinal plant genomes.Diploid species account for a majority of sequenced medicinal plants.The whole genomes of plants in the Poaceae family are the most studied.Almost 40%of the published papers studied species with tonifying,replenishing,and heat-cleaning medicinal effects.Medicinal plants are still in the process of domestication as compared with crops,thereby resulting in unclear genetic backgrounds and the lack of pure lines,thus making their genomes more difficult to complete.In addition,there is still no clear routine framework for a medicinal plant to obtain a high-quality whole genome.Herein,a clear and complete strategy has been originally proposed for creating a high-quality whole genome of medicinal plants.Moreover,whole genome-based biological studies of medicinal plants,including breeding and biosynthesis,were reviewed.We also advocate that a research platform of model medicinal plants should be established to promote the genomics research of medicinal plants.

Development of a low-cost quadrotor UAV based on ADRC for agricultural remote sensing

Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)has the advantages of good repeatability and high remote sensing(RS)information acquisition efficiency,as an important supplement bridging the gap of high-altitude and ground RS platforms.A quadrotor UAV was developed for the agricultural RS application in this study.The control system consists of a main processor and a coprocessor,integrating a three-axis gyroscope,a three-axis accelerometer,an air pressure sensor and a global positioning system(GPS)module.Engineering trial method(ETM)was used to tune the parameters based on the active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)method.Also a ground control station(GCS)adapted to the quadrotor was developed realizing autonomously take-off and landing,flight route planning,data recording.To investigate the performances of the UAV,several flight tests were carried out.The test results showed that the pitch angle control accuracy error was less than 4°,the flight height control accuracy error was less than 0.86 m,the flight path control accuracy error was less than 1.5 m overall.Aerial multispectral images were acquired and processed.The reflected digital number(DN)values obtained from a height of 10-100 m with 10 m interval could be referenced to classify objects.The normalized-difference-vegetation index(NDVI)values obtained from the aerial multispectral images acquired at 15 m were compared with those obtained by the GreenSeeker(GS)and PSR-1100F.The maximum error was 20.37%while the minimum error was 1.99%,which demonstrated the developed quadrotor UAV’s satisfactions for low altitude remote sensing practice.This study provided a low-cost platform for agricultural remote sensing.

Hybridization： A Chemical Bonding Nature of Atoms

Both the bonding mode and geometry can serve as the chemical bonding nature of central cation, which is essentially determined by the atomic orbital-hybridization. In this work, we focus on the possible chemical bonding scheme of central cations on the basis of a quantitative analysis of electron domain of an atom. Starting from the hybridization of outer atomic orbitals that are occupied by valence electrons, we studied the possible orbital hybridization scheme of atoms in the periodic table and the corresponding coordination number as well as possible molecular geometries. According to distinct hybrid orbital sets, the chemical bonding of central cations can be classified into three typical types, resulting in the cations with a variety of coordination numbers ranging from 2 to 16. Owing to different hybridization modes, the highest coordination number of cations in IA and IIA groups is larger than that in IB--VIIIB groups, and the coordination number of lanthanide elements is most abundant. We also selected NaNO3, Fe（NO3）3·9H2O, Zn（NO3）2·6H2O, Y（NO3）3·3H2O, and La（NO3）3·6H2O as examples to confirm the direct relationship between chemical bonding characteristics and orbital hybrid set by IR spectra. The present study opens the door to reveal the chemical bonding nature of atoms on the basis of hybridization and will provide theoretical guides in structural design at an atomic level.
