The data-driven methods extract the feature information from data to build system models, which enable estimation and identification of the systems and can be utilized for prognosis and health management(PHM). However, most data-driven models are still black-box models that cannot be interpreted. In this study, we use the neural ordinary differential equations(ODEs), especially the inherent computational relationships of a system added to the loss function calculation, to approximate the governing equations. In addition, a new strategy for identifying the local parameters of the system is investigated, which can be utilized for system parameter identification and damage detection. The numerical and experimental examples presented in the paper demonstrate that the strategy has high accuracy and good local parameter identification. Moreover, the proposed method has the advantage of being interpretable. It can directly approximate the underlying governing dynamics and be a worthwhile strategy for system identification and PHM.

This study investigates the predictability of a fixed uncertainty index(UI)for realized variances(volatility)in the international stock markets from a high-frequency perspective.We construct a composite UI based on the scaled principal component analysis(s-PCA)method and demonstrate that it exhibits significant in-and out-of-sample predictabilities for realized variances in global stock markets.This predictive power is more powerful than those of two commonly employed competing methods,namely,PCA and the partial least squares(PLS)methods.The result is robust in several checks.Further,we explain that s-PCA outperforms other dimension-reduction methods since it can effectively increase the impacts of strong predictors and decrease those of weak factors.The implications of this research are significant for investors who allocate assets globally.

Arsenic from environmental contamination is a risk factor for kidney disease,and the clinical use of arsenic also triggers a new concern that the potential kidney damage caused by exposure to clinical doses of arse nic trivale nt.So far,the un dergoi ng mecha nisms con tributi ng to arse nic n ephrotoxicity mostly remain unclear,and universally accepted methods for preventing this complication are limited too.Ancient Chinese medical scientists recognized the toxicity of arsenic long ago,and there were some records of Chinese herbs against arsenic poisoning in ancient books of Chinese medicine.In the past decade,several herbal formulations,as well as some potentially active compounds extracted from Chinese herbs,have been employed to prevent arsenic nephrotoxicity both in vivo and in vitro and showed better therapeutic effects.The present paper thus summarizes and discusses these Chinese medicine methods in preventing such a public health problem.In addition,we call for large,well-desig ned,randomized,and controlled clinical trials to be performed to further assess the efficacy and safety of these potential methods of Chinese medicine against arsenic nephrotoxicity.

Every univariate Hermite interpolation problem can be written as a pointwise limit of Lagrange interpolants.However,this property is not preserved for the multivariate case.In this paper,the authors first generalize the result of P.Gniadek.As an application,the authors consider the discrete approximation problem for a special case when the interpolation condition contains all partial derivatives of order less than n and one nth order differential polynomial.In addition,for the case of n≥3,the authors use the concept of Cartesian tensors to give a sufficient condition to find a sequence of discrete points,such that the Lagrange interpolation problems at these points converge to the given Hermite-type interpolant.

This paper investigates the production scheduling problems of allocating resources and sequencing jobs in the seru production system(SPS).As a new-type manufacturing mode arising from Japanese production practices,seru production can achieve efficiency,flexibility,and responsiveness simultaneously.The production environment in which a set of jobs must be scheduled over a set of serus according to due date and different execution modes is considered,and a combination optimization model is provided.Motivated by the problem complexity and the characteristics of the proposed seru scheduling model,a nested partitioning method(NPM)is designed as the solution approach.Finally,computational studies are conducted,and the practicability of the proposed seru scheduling model is proven.Moreover,the efficiency of the nested partitioning solution method is demonstrated by the computational results obtained from different scenarios,and the good scalability of the proposed approach is proven via comparative analysis.

This study deals with the problem of mainlobe jamming suppression for rotated array radar.The interference becomes spatially nonstationary while the radar array rotates,which causes the mismatch between the weight and the snapshots and thus the loss of target signal to noise ratio(SNR)of pulse compression.In this paper,we explore the spatial divergence of interference sources and consider the rotated array radar anti-mainlobe jamming problem as a generalized rotated array mixed signal(RAMS)model firstly.Then the corresponding algorithm improved blind source separation(BSS)using the frequency domain of robust principal component analysis(FDRPCA-BSS)is proposed based on the established rotating model.It can eliminate the influence of the rotating parts and address the problem of loss of SNR.Finally,the measured peakto-average power ratio(PAPR)of each separated channel is performed to identify the target echo channel among the separated channels.Simulation results show that the proposed method is practically feasible and can suppress the mainlobe jamming with lower loss of SNR.

Evaluation of P-glycoprotein-targeting circulating microRNAs as peripheral biomarkers for medically intractable epilepsy

Background Early diagnosis of medically intractable epilepsy is challenging in clinical work.P-glycoprotein(P-gp)is one of the most important multidrug efux transporters,which has been demonstrated to contribute to the drug resistance of intractable epilepsy.The present study was aimed to explore the diagnostic value of microRNAs(miRNAs)targeting P-gp for medically intractable epilepsy.Methods Thirty-six patients with intractable epilepsy and 36 epilepsy patients responsive to anti-epilepsy drugs,who visited Jinshan Hospital of Fudan University from September 2014 to September 2016,were enrolled in this study.Clinical information of the patients was obtained by retrospectively reviewing medical records.MiRNAs with diferential serum expression between the two groups of patients were detected by microarray assay.Meanwhile,miRNAs that were confrmed to regulate P-gp in vitro by western blot were selected for further validation.In the validation phase,reverse transcription quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR)was conducted to confrm the diferential expression of the candidate miRNAs in the epilepsy cohorts.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis was carried out to evaluate the diagnostic value of the miRNAs for intractable epilepsy.Results Three miRNAs including miR-6514-3p,miR-6076-5p,and miR-6855-3p were identifed to be candidate miRNAs by microarray assay.The results of western blotting validated that miR-146a-5p and miR-138-5p could regulate P-gp expression in vitro,so they were included in the candidate miRNAs for further validation.In the validation phase,the results of RT-qPCR indicated that compared with drug-responsive patients,the patients with intractable epilepsy showed decreased level of miR-138-5p and increased level of miR-146a-5p.The results of ROC curve analysis indicated that miR-138-5p(AUC=0.877)and miR-146a-5p(AUC=0.866)had high diagnostic value for intractable epilepsy.In addition,the miR-panel composed of miR-138-5p and miR-146a-5p showed higher diagnostic value(AUC=0.926)than the miRNAs selecte

Progress of microscopic thermoelectric effects studied by micro- and nano-thermometric techniques

Heat dissipation is one of the most serious problems in modern integrated electronics with the continuously decreasing devices size. Large portion of the consumed power is inevitably dissipated inthe form of waste heat which not only restricts the device energy-efficiency performance itself, butalso leads to severe environment problems and energy crisis. Thermoelectric Seebeck effect is a greenenergy-recycling method, while thermoelectric Peltier effect can be employed for heat management byactively cooling overheated devices, where passive cooling by heat conduction is not sufficiently enough.However, the technological applications of thermoelectricity are limited so far by their very low conversion efficiencies and lack of deep understanding of thermoelectricity in microscopic levels. Probingand managing the thermoelectricity is therefore fundamentally important particularly in nanoscale. Inthis short review, we will first briefly introduce the microscopic techniques for studying nanoscale thermoelectricity, focusing mainly on scanning thermal microscopy (SThM). SThM is a powerful tool formapping the lattice heat with nanometer spatial resolution and hence detecting the nanoscale thermaltransport and dissipation processes. Then we will review recent experiments utilizing these techniques to investigate thermoelectricity in various nanomaterial systems including both (two-material)heterojunctions and (single-material) homojunctions with tailored Seebeck coefficients, and also spinSeebeck and Peltier effects in magnetic materials. Next, we will provide a perspective on the promisingapplications of our recently developed Scanning Noise Microscope (SNoiM) for directly probing thenon-equilibrium transporting hot charges (instead of lattice heat) in thermoelectric devices. SNoiMtogether with SThM are expected to be able to provide more complete and comprehensive understanding to the microscopic mechanisms in thermoelectrics.
