Characterization and quantification of multi-field coupling in lithium-ion batteries under mechanical constraints

The safety and durability of lithium-ion batteries under mechanical constraints depend significantly on electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical fields in applications. Characterizing and quantifying the multi-field coupling behaviors requires interdisciplinary efforts. Here, we design experiments under mechanical constraints and introduce an in-situ analytical framework to clarify the complex interaction mechanisms and coupling degrees among multi-physics fields. The proposed analytical framework integrates the parameterization of equivalent models, in-situ mechanical analysis, and quantitative assessment of coupling behavior. The results indicate that the significant impact of pressure on impedance at low temperatures results from the diffusion-controlled step, enhancing kinetics when external pressure, like 180 to 240 k Pa at 10 °C, is applied. The diversity in control steps for the electrochemical reaction accounts for the varying impact of pressure on battery performance across different temperatures. The thermal expansion rate suggests that the swelling force varies by less than 1.60% per unit of elevated temperature during the lithiation process. By introducing a composite metric, we quantify the coupling correlation and intensity between characteristic parameters and physical fields, uncovering the highest coupling degree in electrochemical-thermal fields. These results underscore the potential of analytical approaches in revealing the mechanisms of interaction among multi-fields, with the goal of enhancing battery performance and advancing battery management.

Amyloid-b,tau pathology,and biomarkers of neurodegeneration make up the core diagnostic biomarkers of Alzheimer disease(AD).However,these proteins represent only a fraction of the complex biological processes underlying AD,and individuals with other brain diseases in which AD pathology is a comorbidity also test positive for these diagnostic biomarkers.More ADspecific early diagnostic and disease staging biomarkers are needed.In this study,we performed tandem mass tag proteomic analysis of paired cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)and serum samples in a discovery cohort comprising 98 participants.Candidate biomarkers were validated by parallel reaction monitoring–based targeted proteomic assays in an independent multicenter cohort comprising 288 participants.We quantified 3,238 CSF and 1,702 serum proteins in the discovery cohort,identifying 171 and 860 CSF proteins and 37 and 323 serum proteins as potential early diagnostic and staging biomarkers,respectively.In the validation cohort,58 and 21 CSF proteins,as well as 12 and 18 serum proteins,were verified as early diagnostic and staging biomarkers,respectively.Separate 19-protein CSF and an 8-protein serum biomarker panels were built by machine learning to accurately classify mild cognitive impairment(MCI)due to AD from normal cognition with areas under the curve of 0.984 and 0.881,respectively.The 19-protein CSF biomarker panel also effectively discriminated patients with MCI due to AD from patients with other neurodegenerative diseases.Moreover,we identified 21 CSF and 18 serum stage-associated proteins re-flecting AD stages.Our findings provide a foundation for developing bloodbased tests for AD screening and staging in clinical practice.

Pathway Planning of Nuclear Power Development Incorporating Assessment of Nuclear Event Risk

The nuclear event risk(NER)is an important and disputed factor that should be reasonably considered when planning the pathway of nuclear power development(NPD)to assess the benefits and risks of developing nuclear power more objectively.This paper aims to explore the impact of nuclear events on NPD pathway planning.The influence of nuclear events is quantified as a monetary risk component,and an optimization model that incorporates the NER in the objective function is proposed.To optimize the pathway of NPD in the lowcarbon transition course of power supply structure evolution,a simulation model is built to deduce alternative NPD pathways and corresponding power supply evolution scenarios under the constraint of an exogenously assigned carbon emission pathway(CEP);moreover,a method is proposed to describe the CEP by superimposing the maximum carbon emission space and each carbon emission reduction(CER)component,and various CER components are clustered considering the emission reduction characteristics and resource endowments of different power generation technologies.A case study is conducted to explore the impact of NER and its risk valuation uncertainty on NPD pathway planning.The method presented in this paper allows the impact of nuclear events on NPD pathway planning to be quantified and improves the level of coordinated optimization of benefits and risks.

Tailoring sulfur-doped and nitrogen-defective carbon nitride nanosheets for efficient photo-controlled radical polymerizations

Despite the challenges that remain,the synergistic adjustment of various microstructures and photochemical parameters of graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))in photocatalytic reactions holds promises for improving catalytic efficiency and reducing energy consumption.Herein,sulfur-doped and nitrogen-defective g-C_(3)N_(4)(n-SC_(3)N_(x))nanosheets were designed and elaborately synthesized.The resultant n-SC_(3)N_(x)possessed a precisely defined 2D layer structure with extensive porosity and incremental specific surface area.Enhanced photoinduced electron transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(PET-RAFT)polymerization of vinyl monomers with low dispersity,excellent temporal control and high chain-end fidelity was achieved under mild blue light irradiation in a nondegassed system.Owing to their ultrathin nanostructures with nitrogen defects and sulfur dopants,n-SC_(3)N_(x)was capable of catalyzing RAFT polymerization in aqueous solutions at significantly accelerated rates,which were nearly 8 times faster compared to bulk g-C_(3)N_(4).The ease of separation and efficient reusability in subsequent polymerizations was enabled by the heterogeneous nature of n-SC_(3)N_(x).The appeal of this approach was illustrated by the fact that utilizing a reusable and metal-free photocatalyst in aqueous environments allowed for the synthesis of polymers with molecular weight up to 300 kg mol-1and a dispersity of 1.32.

Damage Diagnosis of Bleacher Based on an Enhanced Convolutional Neural Network with Training Interference

Bleachers play a crucial role in practical engineering applications, and any damage incurred during their operationposes a significant threat to the safety of both life and property. Consequently, it becomes imperative to conductdamage diagnosis and health monitoring of bleachers. The intricate structure of bleachers, the varied types ofpotential damage, and the presence of similar vibration data in adjacent locations make it challenging to achievesatisfactory diagnosis accuracy through traditional time-frequency analysis methods. Furthermore, field environmentalnoise can adversely impact the accuracy of bleacher damage diagnosis. To enhance the accuracy and antinoisecapabilities of bleacher damage diagnosis, this paper proposes improvements to the existing ConvolutionalNeural Network with Training Interference (TICNN). The result is an advanced Convolutional Neural Networkmodel with superior accuracy and robust anti-noise capabilities, referred to as Enhanced TICNN (ETICNN).ETICNN autonomously extracts optimal damage-sensitive features from the original vibration data. To validatethe superiority of the proposed ETICNN, experiments are conducted using the bleacher model from Qatar Universityas the subject. Comparative studies under identical experimental conditions involve TICNN, Deep ConvolutionalNeural Networks with wide first-layer kernels (WDCNN), and One-Dimensional ConvolutionalNeural Network (1DCNN). The experimental findings demonstrate that the ETICNN model achieves the highestaccuracy, approximately 99%, and exhibits robust classification abilities in both Phases I and II of the damagediagnosis experiments. Simultaneously, the ETICNN model demonstrates strong anti-noise capabilities, outperformingTICNN by 3% to 4% and surpassing other models in performance.

Chromosome-scale genomes of Quercus sichourensis and Quercus rex provide insights into the evolution and adaptation of Fagaceae

The Fagaceae,a plant family with a wide distribution and diverse adaptability,has garnered significant interest as a subject of study in plant speciation and adaptation.Meanwhile,certain Fagaceae species are regarded as highly valuable wood resources due to the exceptional quality of their wood.In this study,we present two high-quality,chromosome-scale genome sequences for Quercus sichourensis(848.75 Mb)and Quercus rex(883.46 Mb).Comparative genomics analysis reveals that the difference in the number of plant disease resistance genes and the nonsynonymous and synonymous substitution ratio(Ka/Ks)of protein-coding genes among Fagaceae species are related to different environmental adaptations.Interestingly,most genes related to starch synthesis in the investigated Quercoideae species are located on a single chromosome,as compared to the outgroup species,Fagus sylvatica.Furthermore,resequencing and population analysis of Q.sichourensis and Q.rex reveal that Q.sichourensis has lower genetic diversity and higher deleterious mutations compared to Q.rex.The high-quality,chromosome-level genomes and the population genomic analysis of the critically endangered Q.sichourensis and Q.rex will provide an invaluable resource as well as insights for future study in these two species,even the genus Quercus,to facilitate their conservation.

A highoutput PDMS-MXene/gelatin triboelectric nanogenerator with the petal surface-microstructure

Triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG)has a promising future in the field of energy harvesting and self-powered sensing due to their simplicity in structure,low cost,and efficient energy harvesting from the surrounding environment.The output electrical performance of TENG can be improved by doping the friction material with functional materials and modifying the surface of the friction material.However,the current method of adding functional materials to friction materials is costly and wasteful,and the method of modifying the surface structure of friction materials is cumbersome and not easy to operate.In this work,we present a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-MXene/gelatin triboelectric nanogenerator(PMMG-TENG)based on petal surface-microstructures,which has the advantages of low cost,simple preparation,high output performance,and ecological friendliness.By doping 0.03 wt.%of MXene in PDMS,the output electrical performance of TENG can be significantly improved,with an output current increase of up to 139.7%.Four different petals are used as natural molds to prepare PMMG-TENG.The results show that PMMG-TENG with peony petal surface microstructure has the best electrical performance,and the output current increase of up to 228.17%compared with PMMG-TENG without structure.The PMMG-TENG with peony petal surface-microstructure exhibits excellent electrical performance,demonstrating a maximum open-circuit voltage of 417.39 V and a maximum short-circuit current of 12.01μA at a size of 3 cm×3 cm,and a maximum power density of 170μW/cm^(2) at a load resistance of 107Ω.The PMMG-TENG’s output performance after 10,000 cycles is consistent with the initial state,highlighting excellent output stability.The PMMG-TENG can easily light up at least 100 light emitting diodes(LEDs).(operating voltage 3V.)Gelatin film exhibits excellent degradation performance,with complete degradation time of only 150 s in water at a constant temperature of 75℃.PMMG-TENG not only shows excellent performance in the field of energy harvesting,but also has a br

Multifunctional role of oral bacteria in the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)encompasses a spectrum of liver disorders of varying severity,ultimately leading to fibrosis.This spectrum primarily consists of NAFL and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.The pathogenesis of NAFLD is closely associated with disturbances in the gut micr-obiota and impairment of the intestinal barrier.Non-gut commensal flora,particularly bacteria,play a pivotal role in the progression of NAFLD.Notably,Porphyromonas gingivalis,a principal bacterium involved in periodontitis,is known to facilitate lipid accumulation,augment immune responses,and induce insulin resistance,thereby exacerbating fibrosis in cases of periodontitis-associated NAFLD.The influence of oral microbiota on NAFLD via the“oral-gut-liver”axis is gaining recognition,offering a novel perspective for NAFLD management through microbial imbalance correction.This review endeavors to encapsulate the intricate roles of oral bacteria in NAFLD and explore underlying mechanisms,emphasizing microbial control strategies as a viable therapeutic avenue for NAFLD.

Ferroptosis inhibitors reduce celastrol toxicity and preserve its insulin sensitizing effects in insulin resistant HepG2 cells

Objective:Research has shown that celastrol can effectively treat a variety of diseases,yet when passing a certain dosage threshold,celastrol becomes toxic,causing complications such as liver and kidney damage and erythrocytopenia,among others.With this dichotomy in mind,it is extremely important to find ways to preserve celastrol’s efficacy while reducing or preventing its toxicity.Methods:In this study,insulin-resistant Hep G2(IR-Hep G2)cells were prepared using palmitic acid and used for in vitro experiments.IR-Hep G2 cells were treated with celastrol alone or in combination with Nacetylcysteine(NAC)or ferrostatin-1(Fer-1)for 12,24 or 48 h,at a range of doses.Cell counting kit-8assay,Western blotting,quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,glucose consumption assessment,and flow cytometry were performed to measure celastrol’s cytotoxicity and whether the cell death was linked to ferroptosis.Results:Celastrol treatment increased lipid oxidation and decreased expression of anti-ferroptosis proteins in IR-Hep G2 cells.Celastrol downregulated glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)m RNA.Molecular docking models predicted that solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7A11)and GPX4 were covalently bound by celastrol.Importantly,we found for the first time that the application of ferroptosis inhibitors(especially NAC)was able to reduce celastrol’s toxicity while preserving its ability to improve insulin sensitivity in IR-Hep G2 cells.Conclusion:One potential mechanism of celastrol’s cytotoxicity is the induction of ferroptosis,which can be alleviated by treatment with ferroptosis inhibitors.These findings provide a new strategy to block celastrol’s toxicity while preserving its therapeutic effects.
