Reflections on the Historical Context and Political Philosophical Implications of Mao Zedong's Talks at the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art

Setting to the task of a logical exposition of this article from Mao's Talks with regards to both historical context and philosophical content, a re-reading explores the "living historical document" as a theoretical possibility. The author indicates that the literary-artistic hypothesis of Talks consists in the political and military logic of "the revolutionary machine," offering a politically autonomous character to artistic formulation while simultaneously drawing up a mechanics for the general relati on ship between the recon struction of art and social relations in the country's future. Successively, in an attempt to engage with an elucidation of Mao's notion of "universal enlightenment" in the contemporary context, is an analytical emphasis on the implications of the material of Talks which embodies its cultural-political framework. This indicates that the revoluti on ary machine imposes a double function on the cultural-artistic worker as somebody who undertakes the responsibilities of both teacher and servant;who occupies the position of a "vanishing mediator" in the process of universal historical movement;and whose van guard characteristics and ultimate existence possess no independent value but instead depend on and draw from their relationship with the historical totality. The author holds that this perspective supports the advancement of our cognizance with regards to the civilizing functionality and ethical constructiveness of the Chinese Revolution in world-historical context.

Poor adherence to P2Y12 antagonists increased cardiovascular risks in Chinese PCI-treated patients

Low adherence to secondary prevention medications （ATM） of patients after acute coronary syndrome （ACS） is associated with poor clinical outcomes. However, literature provides limited data on assessment of ATM and risks associated with poor in Chinese patients with ACS. In the current work, ATM was assessed in consecutively recruited patients with ACS in Tongji Hospital from November 5, 2013 to December 31, 2014. A total of 2126 patients were classified under low adherence （proportion of days covered （PDC）〈 50%） and high adherence （PDC〉50%） groups based on their performance after discharge. All patients were followed up at the 1st, 6th, and 12th month of discharge while recording ATM and major adverse cardiac events （MACE）. Bivariate logistic regression was used to identify the factors associated with ATM. Cox regression was used to analyze the association between ATM and MACE within one year after discharge. Results showed that coronary artery bypass grafting （CABG） alone had significantly lower proportion of high adherence to P2Y12 antagonists （83.0% vs. 90.7%, P 〈 0.01） than patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI） only. Moreover, in patients undergoing PCI, high adherence to P2Y12 antagonists decreased the risk of MACE （hazard ratio = 0.172, 95% confidence interval： 0.039-0.763; P= 0.021）. In conclusion, PCI-treated patients are more prone to remaining adherent to medications than CABG-treated patients. High adherence to P2Y12 antagonists was associated with lower risk of MACE.

Attenuated Listeria monocytogenes as a cancer vaccine vector for the delivery of CD24, a biomarker for hepatic cancer stem cells

Attenuated Listeria monocytogenes （LM） is a promising candidate vector for the delivery of cancer vaccines. After phagocytosis by antigen-presenting cells, this bacterium stimulates the major histocompatibility complex （MHC）-I and MHC-II pathways and induces the proliferation of antigen-specific T lymphocytes. A new strategy involving genetic modification of the replication-deficient LM strain AdalAdat （Lmdd） to express and secrete human CD24 protein has been developed. CD24 is a hepatic cancer stem cell biomarker that is closely associated with apoptosis, metastasis and recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. After intravenous administration in mice, Lmdd-CD24 was distributed primarily in the spleen and liver and did not cause severe organ injury. Lmdd-CD24 effectively increased the number of interferon （IFN）-7-producing CD8＋ T cells and IFN-7 secretion. Lmdd-CD24 also enhanced the number of IL-4- and IL-lO-producing T helper 2 cells. The efficacy of the Lmdd-CD24 vaccine was further investigated against Hepa1- 6-CD24 tumors, which were inguinally inoculated into mice. Lmdd-CD24 significantly reduced the tumor size in mice and increased their survival. Notably, a reduction of T regulatory cell （Treg） numbers and an enhancement of specific CD8＋ T-cell activity were observed in the tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes （TILs）. These results suggest a potential application of the Lmdd-CD24 vaccine against HCC.

The development of life beyond planet Earth is a long-standing quest of the human race, but whether normal mammalian embryonic development can occur in space is still unclear. Here, we show unequivocally that preimplantation mouse embryos can develop in space, but the rate of blastocyst formation and blastocyst quality are compromised. Additionally, the cells in the embryo contain severe DNA damage, while the genome of the blastocysts developed in space is globally hypomethylated with a unique set of differentially methylated regions. The developmental defects, DNA damage and epigenetic abnormalities can be largely mimicked by the treatment with ground-based low-dose radiation. However,the exposure to simulated microgravity alone does not cause major disruptions of embryonic development,indicating that radiation is the main cause for the developmental defects. This work advances the understanding of embryonic development in space and reveals long-term extreme low-dose radiation as a hazardous factor for mammalian reproduction.

Effects of meteorological factors on the defoliation dynamics of the larch caterpillar(Dendrolimus superans Butler)in the Great Xing’an boreal forests

Larch caterpillars are widely distributed in the Great Xing’an boreal forests;however,the relationship between caterpillar defoliation dynamics and climatic factors is poorly understood.The aims of this study are to investigate the primary weather conditions that might influence forest defoliation and to identify the most important life stage of the larch caterpillar at which forest defoliation might be mitigated by incorporating more inhibitory influences from climatic factors.The life cycle of the larch caterpillar was partitioned into four stages and multiple linear regression and mixed effect models were combined with a relative weight analysis approach to evaluate the importance and influence of meteorological variables on defoliation dynamics.The results show that warmer temperatures in growing seasons and overwintering periods can increase the defoliation area,while rainy and humid growing seasons decrease the defoliation area.Total precipitation during the early instar larval period had the greatest power to explain the variance in defoliation dynamics and had a very strong inhibitory effect,followed by the accumulative temperatures of the late instar larval period which had a positive impact,and precipitation during the middle instar larval period which had a negative impact.Weather conditions during the early instar larval period had the greatest influence on the area defoliated and accounted for 40%of the explained variance.This study demonstrates that climatic warming and drying will increase the risk of larch caterpillar outbreaks in the Great Xing’an Mountains.

Symm Sketch: Creating symmetric 3D free-form shapes from 2D sketches

This paper presents Symm Sketch—a system for creating symmetric 3D free-form shapes from 2D sketches. The reconstruction task usually separates a 3D symmetric shape into two types of shape components, that is, the self-symmetric shape component and the mutual-symmetric shape components. Each type can be created in an intuitive manner. Using a uniform symmetry plane, the user first draws 2D sketch lines for each shape component on a sketching plane. The z-depth information of the hand-drawn input sketches can be calculated using their property of mirror symmetry to generate 3D construction curves. In order to provide more freedom for controlling the local geometric features of the reconstructed free-form shapes(e.g., non-circular crosssections), our modeling system creates each shape component from four construction curves. Using one pair of symmetric curves and one pair of general curves, an improved cross-sectional surface blending scheme is applied to generate a parametric surface for each component. The final symmetric free-form shape is progressively created, and is represented by 3D triangular mesh. Experimental results illustrate that our system can generate complex symmetric free-form shapes effectively and conveniently.

Overexpression of mechanical sensitive miR-337-3p alleviates ectopic ossification in rat tendinopathy model via targeting IRS1 and Nox4 of tendon-derived stem cells

Tendinopathy,which is characterized by the ectopic ossification of tendon,is a common disease occurring in certain population,such as athletes that suffer from repetitive tendon strains.However,the molecular mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of tendinopathy caused by the overuse of tendon is still lacking.Here,we found that the mechanosensitive miRNA,miR-337-3p,had lower expression under uniaxial cyclical mechanical loading in tendon-derived stem cells(TDSCs)and negatively controlled chondro-osteogenic differentiation of TDSCs.Importantly,downregulation of miR-337-3p expression was also observed in both rat and human calcified tendons,and overexpressing miR-337-3p in patellar tendons of rat tendinopathy model displayed a robust therapeutic efficiency.Mechanistically,we found that the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1^was the upstream factor of miR-337-3p that bridges the mechanical loading with its downregulation.Furthermore,the target genes of miR-337-3p,NADPH oxidase 4,and insulin receptor substrate 1,activated chondro-osteogenic differentiation of TDSCs through JNK and ERK signaling,respectively.Thus,these findings not only provide novel insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying ectopic ossification in tendinopathy but also highlight the significance of miR-337-3p as a putative therapeutic target for clinic treatment of tendinopathy.
