Pancreatic stellate cells promote proliferation and invasiveness of human pancreatic cancer cells via galectin-3

AIM: To investigate the role of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) and galectin-3 (GAL-3) in the proliferation and infiltration of pancreatic cancer cell line SW1990. METHODS: Human pancreatic cancer cell line SW1990 and PSCs were cultured in vitro . Supernatant fluid of cultured PSCs and SW1990 cells was collected. Expression of GAL-3 in SW1990 cells and PSCs was detected by ELISA, RT-PCR and Western blotting. Proliferation of cultured PSCs and SW1990 cells was measured by 3-(4, 5-methylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and flow cytometry. Infiltration of SW1990 cells was detected by a cell infiltration kit. RESULTS: SW1990 cells expressed GAL-3 and this was up-regulated by the supernatant fluid of cultured PSCs. PSCs did not express GAL-3. SW1990 cells stimulated proliferation of PSCs via GAL-3. GAL-3 antibody inhibited SW1990 cell proliferation, while the supernatant fluid of PSCs stimulated proliferation of SW1990 cells through interaction with GAL-3 protein. The supernatant fluid of PSCs enhanced the invasiveness of SW1990 cells through interaction with GAL-3. CONCLUSION: GAL-3 and PSCs were involved in the proliferation and infiltration process of pancreatic cancer cells.

Metabolic syndrome(MetS)describes a set of risk factors that can eventually lead to the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.A detailed understanding of the MetS mechanism will be helpful in developing effective prevention strategies and appropriate intervention *** this article,we discuss the relationship between the clinical symptoms of MetS and differences in the gut microbial community compared with healthy individuals,characterized by the proliferation of potentially harmful bacteria and the inhibition of beneficial *** between gut microbiota and host metabolism have been shown to be mediated by a number of factors,including inflammation caused by gut barrier defects,short-chain fatty acids metabolism,and bile acid ***,although we can clearly establish a causal relationship between gut microbial profiles and MetS in animal experiments,the relationship between them is still controversial in ***,we need more clinical studies to augment our understanding of how we can manipulate the gut microbiota and address the role of the gut microbiota in the prevention and treatment of MetS.

Suzhou City,located in the Yangtze River Delta in China,is prone to flooding due to a complex combination of natural factors,including its monsoon climate,low elevation,and tidally influenced position,as well as intensive human *** Large Encirclement Flood Control Project(LEFCP)was launched to cope with serious floods in the urban *** project changed the spatiotemporal pattern of flood processes and caused spatial diversion of floods from the urban area to the outskirts of the ***,this study developed a distributed flood simulation model in order to understand this transition of flood *** results revealed that the LEFCP effectively protected the urban areas from floods,but the present scheduling schemes resulted in the spatial diversion of floods to the outskirts of the *** rainstorm frequencies of 10.0%to 0.5%,the water level differences between two representative water level stations(Miduqiao(MDQ)and Fengqiao(FQ))located inside and outside the LEFCP area,ranged from 0.75 m to 0.24 m and from 1.80 m to 1.58 m,*** addition,the flood safety margin at MDQ and the duration with the water level exceeding the warning water level at FQ ranged from 0.95 m to 0.43 m and from 4 h to 22 h,*** scheduling schemes for the hydraulic facilities of the LEFCP in extreme precipitation cases were developed ac-cording to food simulations under seven scheduling *** helps to regulate the spatial flood diversion caused by the LEFCP during extreme precipitation.

Plants only interact with neighbors over restricted distances,so local conditions are of great significance for *** this study,a spatially-explicit,individual-based model was constructed to explore the effects of size variation and spatial structure on adaptive plasticity of plant height in response to light *** the model a plant maintains its height at an optimal value in order to maximize its growth rate,and this optimal height increases with the increase of the intensity of light competition experienced by the individual *** the spatial pattern of the population is non-uniform or there is size variation among individual plants,the height growth curves of individuals different from each other vary due to the differences in the local light environment,and there is also variation in the allocation of photosynthate to height growth among the individual *** is no ESS height or height growth strategy on which all plants will *** results indicate that the plasticity of plants' height growth reactions to the light competition should be considered at the individual level and they argue strongly for the importance of the spatial pattern and neighborhood effects in generating the diversity of heights and height growth strategies in plant population.

Heterogeneous data-driven aerodynamic modeling based on physical feature embedding

Aerodynamic surrogate modeling mostly relies only on integrated loads data obtained from simulation or experiment,while neglecting and wasting the valuable distributed physical information on the *** make full use of both integrated and distributed loads,a modeling paradigm,called the heterogeneous data-driven aerodynamic modeling,is *** essential concept is to incorporate the physical information of distributed loads as additional constraints within the end-to-end aerodynamic *** heterogenous data,a novel and easily applicable physical feature embedding modeling framework is *** framework extracts lowdimensional physical features from pressure distribution and then effectively enhances the modeling of the integrated loads via feature *** proposed framework can be coupled with multiple feature extraction methods,and the well-performed generalization capabilities over different airfoils are verified through a transonic *** with traditional direct modeling,the proposed framework can reduce testing errors by almost 50%.Given the same prediction accuracy,it can save more than half of the training ***,the visualization analysis has revealed a significant correlation between the discovered low-dimensional physical features and the heterogeneous aerodynamic loads,which shows the interpretability and credibility of the superior performance offered by the proposed deep learning framework.

Generic and flexible self-correction method for nonlinearity-induced phase error in three-dimensional imaging

In three-dimensional imaging employing phase-shifting profilometry(PSP), the nonlinear response of projector and camera makes the fringe gray distribution non-sinusoidal, which further leads to phase error. Although the double 3-step phaseshifting method is simple and effective, it needs to add an additional set of fringe sequences, which reduces the measurement efficiency. To this end, this paper introduces a generic and flexible self-correction method for nonlinearity-induced phase ***, according to the nonlinearity-induced phase error model, we introduce an additional wrapped phase with a phase difference of π/3. The error waveform of the two wrapped phases is opposite but not coincident. Then, we introduce an estimation algorithm for the additional wrapped phase offset. Finally, we fuse the two wrapped phases to correct the phase error. Experiments confirm that the root mean squared error of the proposed method is 64.1% lower than that of the traditional method and 13.3% lower than that of the Hilbert transform method. The proposed method does not require any additional fringes or hardware assistance and can be easily extended to 4-step or 5-step PSP.

Numerous supramolecular macrocycles have been utilized for developing catalysts by exploiting their specific molecular recognition and ability to form inclusion complexes through noncovalent interactions. The cyclic structure and modified functional groups of these macrocycles can influence substrate and transition state stability, as well as reaction selectivity. The inner cavities of these macrocycles are particularly beneficial, as they enable substrates to adopt preorganized arrangements and serve as versatile platforms for highly efficient supramolecular catalytic systems. This minireview provides an overview of recent advancements in supramolecular catalysis using various macrocycles, such as crown ethers, cyclodextrins,calixarenes, pillararenes, cucurbiturils, and other novel macrocycles.

Facile synthesis of hierarchical NaX zeolite from natural kaolinite for efficient Knoevenagel condensation

Zeolite catalysts have found extensive applications in the synthesis of various fine ***,the micropores of zeolites impose diffusion limitations on bulky molecules,greatly reducing the catalytic ***,we explore an economic and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing hierarchical NaX zeolite that exhibits improved catalytic performance in the Knoevenagel condensation reaction for producing the useful fine chemical *** synthesis was achieved via a low-temperature activation of kaolinite and subsequent in-situ transformation strategy without any template or *** characterizations reveal that the synthesized NaX zeolite has both intercrystalline and intra-crystalline mesopores,smaller crystal size,and larger external specific surface area compared to commercial NaX *** mechanism investigations show that the inter-crystalline mesopores are generated by stacking smaller crystals formed from in-situ crystallization of the depolymerized kaolinite,and the intra-crystalline mesopores are inherited from the pores in the depolymerized *** synthesis strategy provides an energy-saving and effective way to construct hierarchical zeolites,which may gain wide applications in fine chemical manufacturing.
