High-precision modeling of tide-induced 3-D magnetic field and analysis of geomagnetic satellite orbit requirements

Ground-based magnetic observatories and geomagnetic satellites can observe the induced magnetic field generated by the motion of seawater containing sodium and chlorine ions.Calculating the three-dimensional(3-D)spatial distribution of tide-induced magnetic fields(TIMF)is crucial for inverting the electrical conductivity structure of the oceanic lithosphere.It also serves as an essential basis for designing optimal geomagnetic observatories and satellite orbits.However,existing methods for simulating TIMF suffer from limitations in inaccurately modeling realistic coastlines,heterogeneous land and sea surface properties,and complex deep Earth structures,thereby the interpretational level of TIMF data is reduced.To overcome this issue,we developed a tetrahedral-based finite element method for simulating TIMF,which can efficiently approximate realistic coastlines,heterogeneous land and sea surface properties,and complex deep Earth structures.Firstly,we derived the boundary value problem for the seawater motion-induced electromagnetic field,which was solved using the vector finite element method based on tetrahedral elements.Secondly,using the latest ocean depth and seafloor sediment layer models,we constructed a 3-D conductivity model of the Earth,which includes realistic coastlines,heterogeneous land and sea conductivity distributions.We then computed the TIMF using the M_(2)tidal source as an example and validated our method by comparing it with results obtained from spherical harmonic finite element and integral equation methods.Finally,utilizing the computed high-precision M_(2),N_(2),and O1 TIMF signals,we marked global observatories capable of observing strong M_(2),N_(2),and O1 TIMF signals and predicted alternative stations suitable for tide signal observations.Additionally,we calculated TIMF at heights of 450 and 200 km for the Macao Science Satellite 1 and its subsequent satellites.The results indicate that the amplitude of the tidal-induced magnetic field at 200 km is approximately twice that at 450 km.Th

Functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGIDs)are common disorders that are characterized by persistent and recurring gastrointestinal symptoms.Many patients with FGIDs have overlapping symptoms,which impaired the quality of life and ability to work of patients,and left a considerable impact on health-care systems and society.Chinese medicines(CMs)are commonly utilized by many patients with FGIDs.This article discusses the current status of diagnosis and treatment of FGIDs,the advantages and characteristics of CM treatment,and how integrated medicine can make a breakthrough in FGIDs diagnosis and treatment.

Catalytic methane removal to mitigate its environmental effect

Large reserve of methane,in the form of natural gas and methane hydrate,has been discovered and it has been intensively used as a fuel,or as a building block for the chemical synthesis.However,severe environmental and climatic issues caused by the leakage of methane during the production,transportation and use of methane are overlooked.This offers incentives for the catalytic removal of methane.Nevertheless,due to the inert nature of methane molecules,the activation of methane via thermocatalysis requires harsh reaction conditions.The high reaction temperature not only increases the capital cost but also accelerates the deactivation of catalysts due to sintering and/or coking.The development of robust and stable catalysts with a low operating temperature has become the focus of the research on thermocatalytic methane oxidation.Photocatalysis,which uses the energy of photons instead of heat to drive chemical reactions under ambient conditions,offers another approach to methane removal.This review will cover the development of high-efficiency catalysts for methane combustion in both thermo-and photocatalysis.Moreover,the fundamental understanding of the active sites,surface chemistry and reaction pathway will also be discussed.Finally,the challenges facing in the catalytic removal of methane will be summarized and potential solutions will be provided.This review will be of interest to researchers in the field of heterogeneous catalysis,materials design,and chemical engineering.

Shear-wave velocity structures of the shallow crust beneath the Ordos and Sichuan Basins from multi-frequency direct P-wave amplitudes in receiver functions

As the two largest cratonic basins in China,the Ordos Basin and the Sichuan Basin are of key importance for understanding the evolutionary history of the Chinese continent.In this study,the shear-wave velocity(V_(S))structures of the shallow crust(depth up to 10 km)beneath the two basins are imaged based on the frequency-dependence of direct P-wave amplitudes in receiver functions.The teleseismic data used in the study came from 160 broadband seismic stations,including permanent and temporary stations.The results show that the V_(S) and the thickness of the sediments in the Ordos Basin and the Sichuan Basin are respectively lower and thicker in the west than in the east.In the Ordos Basin,the shallow crustal V_(S) increases gradually from 2.10 km s^(−1)in the northwest to 2.65 km s^(−1)in the southeast and the thickest sediments are 7–8 km in the northwest and 5 km in the east.In the Sichuan Basin,the shallow crustal V_(S) increases from 2.4 km s^(−1) in the west to 2.7 km s^(−1)in the east and the thickness of the sediments decreases from>7 km in the west to 6 km in the east.The east-west difference of the shallow crustal structures of the two basins may have been controlled by the Cenozoic India-Eurasia collision.The western parts of the basins near the collision have a higher deposition rate,while in the parts inside the basins far from the collision,the V_(S) slowly increases with depth,indicating that these areas have experienced a more uniform deposition process.In addition,both basins are characterized by velocity structures that are higher along the edges and lower inside of the basins.The edges of the basins suffered strong denudation due to the uplifting and deformation influenced by tectonic evolution.The downward gradient of the shear-wave velocity beneath the Ordos Basin is twice that of the Sichuan Basin,which may be caused by the different deposition and denudation rates of the two basins resulting from differences in structural evolution and thermal events.In addition,the northern Ordos Basin exhi

Aquaporin-4-IgG-seropositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders:progress of experimental models based on disease pathogenesis

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders are neuroinflammatory demyelinating disorders that lead to permanent visual loss and motor dysfunction.To date,no effective treatment exists as the exact causative mechanism remains unknown.Therefore,experimental models of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders are essential for exploring its pathogenesis and in screening for therapeutic targets.Since most patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders are seropositive for IgG autoantibodies against aquaporin-4,which is highly expressed on the membrane of astrocyte endfeet,most current experimental models are based on aquaporin-4-IgG that initially targets astrocytes.These experimental models have successfully simulated many pathological features of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders,such as aquaporin-4 loss,astrocytopathy,granulocyte and macrophage infiltration,complement activation,demyelination,and neuronal loss;however,they do not fully capture the pathological process of human neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.In this review,we summarize the currently known pathogenic mechanisms and the development of associated experimental models in vitro,ex vivo,and in vivo for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders,suggest potential pathogenic mechanisms for further investigation,and provide guidance on experimental model choices.In addition,this review summarizes the latest information on pathologies and therapies for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders based on experimental models of aquaporin-4-IgG-seropositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders,offering further therapeutic targets and a theoretical basis for clinical trials.

Design method of optimal control schedule for the adaptive cycle engine steady-state performance

The alternative working modes and flexible working states are the outstanding features of an adaptive cycle engine, with a proper control schedule design being the only way to exploit the performance of such an engine. However, unreasonable design in the control schedule causes not only performance deterioration but also serious aerodynamic stability problems. Thus, in this work,a hybrid optimization method that automatically chooses the working modes and identifies the optimal and smooth control schedules is proposed, by combining the differential evolution algorithm and the Latin hypercube sampling method. The control schedule architecture does not only optimize the engine steady-state performance under different working modes but also solves the control-schedule discontinuity problem, especially during mode transition. The optimal control schedules are continuous and almost monotonic, and hence are strongly suitable for a control system, and are designed for two different working conditions, i.e., supersonic and subsonic throttling,which proves that the proposed hybrid method applies to various working conditions. The evaluation demonstrates that the proposed control method optimizes the engine performance, the surge margin of the compression components, and the range of the thrust during throttling.

Natural dynamic characteristics of a circular cylindrical Timoshenko tube made of three-directional functionally graded material

The natural dynamic characteristics of a circular cylindrical tube made of three-directional(3 D)functional graded material(FGM)based on the Timoshenko beam theory are investigated.Hamilton’s principle is utilized to derive the novel motion equations of the tube,considering the interactions among the longitudinal,transverse,and rotation deformations.By dint of the differential quadrature method(DQM),the governing equations are discretized to conduct the analysis of natural dynamic characteristics.The Ritz method,in conjunction with the finite element method(FEM),is introduced to verify the present results.It is found that the asymmetric modes in the tube are controlled by the 3 D FGM,which exhibit more complicated shapes compared with the unidirectional(1 D)and bi-directional(2 D)FGM cases.Numerical examples illustrate the effects of the axial,radial,and circumferential FGM indexes as well as the supported edges on the natural dynamic characteristics in detail.It is notable that the obtained results are beneficial for accurate design of smart structures composed from multi-directional FGM.

Study on force chain evolution of rice straw with different length during vibrational compression

This paper explores the mechanism of force chain evolution and voidage change under vibrational and non-vibrational compression conditions of rice straw of different lengths.Simulations were used to explore the force chain evolution and voidage variation mechanism under different conditions.The re-sults show that under non-vibrational compression,the strong force chain passes from top to bottom in vertical direction and from center to periphery in tangential direction.Under vibrational compression,the force chain passes from top and bottom to center in vertical direction and the force chain evolves from outer ring to interior and exterior in tangential direction.The number of strong chains,voidage and standard deviation of the mean pressure under vibratory compression are lower than the values under non-vibratory compression.Vibration promotes stress transfer and enhancement,velocity enhancement and density enhancement.This study analyzes the mechanical properties of different lengths straw during vibrational and non-vibrational compression from a detailed viewpoint.

Two-time-scale Congestion Management Scheme for Microgrid Integrated Distribution Networks

Microgrids(MGs)with high penetration of dis-tributed generators may cause congestion in the distribution net-work during operation.To address this issue,this paper proposes a two-time-scale congestion management scheme for multiple MGs integrated distribution networks.Day-ahead hourly-scale dynamic congestion management(DCM)is formulated as a con-strained optimization problem,which can be solved by utilizing the proposed alternating iterative method,with the privacy of both the distribution network and MGs being preserved.The sub-hourly-scale contract energy tracking aims at fully utilizing the controllable resources of the MGs to minimize the difference of the contract and actual exchanged energy between the MG and distribution network.Through coordination of the proposed two timescales of management schemes,the MGs integrated distribution networks can operate economically while avoiding the probable congestion predicament with high penetration of renewable energy.Simulation studies with a i3-bus system MGs integrated distribution network demonstrated this proposed approach is effective to manage the congestion problem in the distribution network,while the energy tracking approach can improve the welfare of the MGs engaged in energy contracts execution.IndexTerms-Alternating giterativemethod,congestion management,microgrids,renewable energy integration.
