Most existing treatments for origami-folding simulations have focused on regular-shaped *** article aims to introduce a general strategy for simulating and analyzing the deformation process of irregular shapes by means of computational capabilities *** better simulate origami deformation with folding orders,the concept of plane follow-up is introduced to achieve automated computer simulation of complex folding patterns,thereby avoiding intersection and penetration between *** on the evaluation criteria such as the lowest storage energy with tightening and the fastest pace from tightening to unfolding,the optimal crease distribution patterns for four irregular(‘N’-,‘T’-,‘O’-,and‘P’-shaped)origami configurations are then presented under five *** the dimensions of the origami are fixed,it is discovered that simpler folding patterns lead to faster deformation of the origami *** the folding complexity is fixed,higher strain energy results in more rapid origami expansion.

Viscous fluid model and potential flow model with and without artificial damping force(f=-μV,μ the damping coefficient and V the local averaging flow velocity) are employed in this work to investigate the phenomenon of fluid resonance in narrow gaps between multi-bodies in close proximity under water *** numerical results are compared with experimental data available in the *** comparison demonstrates that both the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are able to predict the resonant frequency reasonably *** the conventional potential flow model(without artificial damping term) significantly over-predicts the wave height in narrow gaps around the resonant *** order to calibrate the appropriate damping coefficient used for the potential model and make it work as well as the viscous fluid model in predicting the resonant wave height in narrow gaps but with little computational efforts,the dependence of damping coefficient μ on the body geometric dimensions is examined considering the parameters of gap width Bg,body draft D,body breadth ratio Br and body number n(n = 2.3),where Br = BB/BA for the case of two bodies(Body A and Body B) with different breadths of BA and BB,*** was confirmed that the damping coefficient used for the potential flow model is not sensitive to the geometric dimensions and spatial *** was found that μ∈ [0.4,0.5] may guarantee the variation of Hg/H0 with kh to be generally in good agreement with the experimental data and the results of viscous fluid model,where Hg is the excited wave height in narrow gaps under various dimensionless incident wave frequencies kh,H0 is the incident wave height,k = 2./L is the wave number and h is the water depth.

An effective method to design structural Left-handed material（LHM） was proposed. A commercial finite element software HFSS and S-parameter retrieval method were used to determine the effective constitutive parameters of the metamaterials, and topology optimization technique was introduced to design the microstructure configurations of the materials with desired electromagnetic characteristics. The material considered was a periodic array of dielectric substrates attached with metal film pieces. By controlling the arrangements of the metal film pieces in the design domain, the potential microstructure with desired electromagnetic characteristics can be obtained finally. Two different LHMs were obtained with maximum bandwidth of negative refraction, and the experimental results show that negative refractive indices appear while the metamaterials have simultaneously negative permittivity and negative permeability. Topology optimization technique is found to be an effective tool for configuration design of LHMs.

海洋脐带缆通常由不同的功能构件捆绑而成,而这些功能构件的力学性能差异很大,在外载荷的作用下,不合理的截面布局可能会导致较大的截面变形和构件间的接触压力,从而影响脐带缆服役寿命。本文首先利用最小化截面半径给出截面布局紧凑性的实现方法,通过基于截面构件的拉伸刚度引入虚拟重力指标来描述截面布局的对称性,同时提出可量化的指标描述易损构件钢管之间的疲劳磨损问题。然后考虑上述三个目标建立截面布局多目标优化模型,并引入遗传算法对上述模型进行求解优化,自动得到三种具有代表性的截面优化布局。最后,通过数值模拟对不同截面优化布局进行验证与分析评价,进而得到最优截面布局设计。本文所提出的脐带缆截面布局设计优化方法可提高全局最优解搜索能力,对脐带缆结构设计具有一定的指导意义。

Effect of boundary conditions on shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials

The determination of the ultimate load-bearing capacity of structures made of elastoplastic heterogeneous materials under varying loads is of great importance for engineering analysis and design. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately predict the shakedown domains of these materials. The static shakedown theorem, also known as Melan's theorem, is a fundamental method used to predict the shakedown domains of structures and materials. Within this method, a {2. aspect lies in the construction and application of an appropriate self-equilibrium stress field(SSF). In the structural shakedown analysis, the SSF is typically constructed by governing equations that satisfy no external force(NEF) boundary conditions. However, we discover that directly applying these governing equations is not suitable for the shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials. Researchers must consider the requirements imposed by the Hill-Mandel condition for boundary conditions and the physical significance of representative volume elements(RVEs). This paper addresses this issue and demonstrates that the sizes of SSFs vary under different boundary conditions, such as uniform displacement boundary conditions(DBCs), uniform traction boundary conditions(TBCs), and periodic boundary conditions(PBCs). As a result, significant discrepancies arise in the predicted shakedown domain sizes of heterogeneous materials. Built on the demonstrated relationship between SSFs under different boundary conditions, this study explores the conservative relationships among different shakedown domains, and provides proof of the relationship between the elastic limit(EL) factors and the shakedown loading factors under the loading domain of two load vertices. By utilizing numerical examples, we highlight the conservatism present in certain results reported in the existing literature. The multiscale method provides an effective approach for the numerical analysis of heterogeneous viscoelastic materials by reducing the degree of freedoms(DOFs).A basic framework of the Multiscale Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method(MsSBFEM)was presented in our previous works,but those works only addressed two-dimensional *** order to solve more realistic problems,a three-dimensional MsSBFEM is further developed in this *** the proposed method,the octree SBFEM is used to deal with the three-dimensional calculation for numerical base functions to bridge small and large scales,the three-dimensional image-based analysis can be conveniently conducted in small-scale and coarse nodes can be flexibly adjusted to improve the computational ***,the Temporally Piecewise Adaptive Algorithm(TPAA)is used to maintain the computational accuracy of multiscale analysis by adaptive calculation in time *** results of numerical examples show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the DOFs for three-dimensional viscoelastic analysis with good *** instance,the DOFs can be reduced by 902. times compared with Direct Numerical Simulation(DNS)with an average error of 1.87%in the third example,and it is very effective in dealing with three-dimensional complex microstructures directly based on images without any geometric modelling process.

Its appearance was a result of 5-year preparation after the consensus agreement by the Acta Mechanica Sinica Editorial Board （3rd）, and was approved by the china Association for Science and technology and supported by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied mechanics （CSTAM）.
