Phenomenon of the sediment deposition in a hydraulic jump region of open channels

The hydraulic jump is a typical sudden change for mountain river *** effects of local hydraulic jumps on the particle transport capacity decrease and local flow resistance increase cannot be ignored as the sediment deposition disaster can amplify the flash flood *** present research investigates the influences of a hydraulic jump on the individual particle movement and sediment deposition in a laboratory *** overall processes of a single particle movement are captured by a high-speed *** distribution of sediment deposition along the hydraulic jump is obtained *** results show that both the particle size and the ratio of the upstream and downstream Froude numbers affect the particle motion process.A single particle coming from upstream gradually decelerates and finally stops at the hydraulic jump section because of hydraulic jump *** particle acceleration first increases and then decreases during the time-domain process,and the attenuation trends are fast with the increase of ratio of upstream and downstream of Froude *** increase of the maximum acceleration with sediment flows follows a linear trend approximately,which indicates that the kinetic features of the single sand particle are determined by the coupling effects of the hydraulic jump resistance and the sand dynamic *** the increase of sediment rate and sand particle size,the resistance effect of hydraulic jump on sediment deposition rate along the flow direction gets strong and the sediment deposition area is mainly located upstream of the hydraulic jump *** present study shows that the possible sediment supply upstream must be obtained for identifying the disaster risk combined with the local hydraulic jump *** researches about the detailed critical condition deduced from the relationship between the water flow and sediment deposition are required to confirm and extrapolate present results to other applications.

Soaring bird migration often relies on suitable terrain and airflow;therefore,route selection is vital for successful *** age and experience have been identified as key factor influencing migration route selection among soaring raptors in the African-Eurasian Flyway,how they shape the migration route of soaring raptors in East Asia is still largely *** this study,we investigated potential variations in the routes and timing in autumn migration of juvenile and older soaring birds,using count data of Greater Spotted Eagles(Clanga clanga)from two coastal sites and two inland sites in *** 2020 to 2023,we recorded a total of 340 individuals,with the highest site averaging over 90 individuals per autumn,making it one of the world’s top single-season counts and thus a globally important site for this *** found that 82% and 61% records from coastal sites were juveniles,significantly higher than inland sites(15% and 24%).Juveniles at all four sites exhibited markedly earlier median passage time than non-juveniles,with brief overlapping in their main migration *** coastal sites are located on the tip of peninsulas stretching southwest,requiring long overwater flights if crossing the Bohai Bay or Beibu Gulf,which would be energetically demanding and increase mortality *** individuals may have learned to avoid such terrain and subsequent detour,while juveniles are more prone to enter these peninsulas due to lack of experience and opportunities for social learning,or following other raptor species that are more capable of powered *** findings highlight the importance of age and experience in migration route selection of large soaring birds.

Microglial response to aging and neuroinflammation in the development of neurodegenerative diseases

Cellular senescence and chronic inflammation in response to aging are considered to be indicators of brain aging; they have a great impact on the aging process and are the main risk factors for neurodegeneration. Reviewing the microglial response to aging and neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative diseases will help understand the importance of microglia in neurodegenerative diseases. This review describes the origin and function of microglia and focuses on the role of different states of the microglial response to aging and chronic inflammation on the occurrence and development of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s chorea, and Parkinson’s disease. This review also describes the potential benefits of treating neurodegenerative diseases by modulating changes in microglial states. Therefore, inducing a shift from the neurotoxic to neuroprotective microglial state in neurodegenerative diseases induced by aging and chronic inflammation holds promise for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in the future.

Curcumin Interferes with TGF-β1-Induced Fibrosis in NRK-49F Cells by Reversing ADAMTS18 Gene Methylation

Objective To explore the molecular mechanism by which curcumin affects renal interstitial fibrosis(RIF)progression by regulating ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 18(ADAMTS18)*** NRK-49F cells RIF model were induced with transforming growth factorβ1(TGF-β1).Effects of different concentrations of curcumin(0,10,20,and 30μmol/L)on cell proliferation,cell cycle,cell apoptosis as well as cyclin D1 expression were analyzed by cell counting kit-8,flow cytometry and Western blot,***18 methylation levels were determined by methylation-specific polymerase chain ***18,fibronectin(FN),type I collagen(Col-I)and alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)mRNA and protein expressions were analyzed by real-time PCR(RT-PCR)and Western blot,***,cells were treated with 50 mmol/L 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine(5-aza-dC,demethylation agent)for 72 *** of curcumin on extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition was evaluated by immunochemical staining and Western ***-49F cells were transfected with ADAMTS18 small interfering RNA and grouped into a normal control,ADAMTS18-knock-out(KO),and ADAMTS18-KO+30μmol/L curcumin groups,and whether curcumin can reverse the effect of ADAMTS18 knockdown on RIF was *** Compared with the control group,TGF-β1 significantly inhibited the proliferation of NRK-49F cells,blocked the G1/G0 phase,promoted cell apoptosis and inhibited cyclin D1 expression(P<0.01).Among the different concentrations of curcumin,30μmol/L curcumin significantly reversed these processes(P<0.01).Immunochemical staining and Western blot results showed that curcumin significantly inhibited the deposition of FN,Col-I andα-SMA(P<0.01).Curcumin and 5-zaz-dC had synergistic effects,promoting ADAMTS18 expression,removing ADAMTS18 methylation,and reducing ECM ***18 knockdown promoted ECM accumulation,and curcumin reversed this process(P<0.01).Conclusion TGF-β1-induced fibrosis in NRK-49F ***

Chemoselective labeling-based spermatozoa glycan imaging reveals abnormal glycosylation in oligoasthenotspermia

Spermatogenesis, maturation, capacitation and fertilization are precisely regulated by glycosylation. However, the relationship between altered glycosylation patterns and the onset and development of reproductive disorders is unclear, mainly limited by the lack of in situ imaging techniques for spermatozoa glycosylation. We developed an efficient and highly specific spermatozoa glycan imaging technique based on the robust chemoselective labeling of sialic acid(Sia) and N-acetyl-D-galactosamine(Gal/GalNAc). We further proposed a “tandem glycan chemoselective labeling” strategy to achieve simultaneous imaging of two types of glycans on spermatozoa. We applied the developed method to the spermatozoa from oligozoospermic patients and diabetic mice and found that these spermatozoa showed higher levels of Sia and Gal/Gal NAc expression than the normal groups. Moreover, spermatozoa from diabetic mice showed a severe decrease in number, viability, and forward motility, suggesting that in vivo glucose metabolism disorders may lead to an elevated level of spermatozoa glycosylation and have a correlation with the development of oligoasthenotspermia. Our work provides a research tool to reveal the relationship between glycosylation modification and spermatozoa quality, and a promising clue for the development of glycan-based reproductive markers.

目的探究胰十二指肠切除术(PD)术后不同预防引流方案对结局的影响。方法回顾性分析2022年10—12月国内8家医院高流量胰腺外科中心医疗组(年胰腺手术量≥50例)收治的116例PD病例的临床资料。按照不同引流方案分为两管组(放置2根引流管,51例)和三管组(放置3根引流管,65例)。采用COX回归分析影响术后住院时间的因素,使用受试者工作特征曲线确定延长住院的最佳截止值;对两组进行倾向评分匹配(PSM)后采用Logistics回归分析影响延长住院的因素。结果三管组病人术后住院时间短于两管组病人(HR=1.512,P=0.034)。通过ROC曲线分析,将术后住院时间>22 d定义为延长住院。经过倾向性评分匹配后两管组和三管组各32例,术后并发症、再入院、住院时间等预后相关指标组间差异无统计学意义,但延长住院的发生率差异有统计学意义[25.0%(8/32)vs.3.1(1/32),P=0.026];多因素回归分析结果示,放置3根引流管是延长住院的保护因素(OR=0.088,P=0.031)。结论PD病人行预防性引流时放置引流管数量与延长住院相关,更充分的引流可能改善病人结局。

Relationship between dietary niacin intake and erectile dysfunction:a population-based study

Existing research on the precise link between dietary niacin intake and erectile dysfunction(ED)is ***,this study aimed to investigate the potential association between dietary niacin intake and the risk of *** logistic regression and restricted cubic splines(RCSs)were used to examine the relationship between dietary niacin intake and *** interaction analysis was performed to assess the impact of different subgroups on the study *** addition,1:1 propensity score matching(PSM)was employed to adjust for potential confounding factors,ensuring the reliability of the *** analyzed data were collected from the 2001–2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)in the *** study encompassed 3184 adults,among whom 863 participants were identified as having *** adjustments for potential confounders,the findings revealed that higher niacin intake,specifically in the highest tertile,was associated with a decreased risk of ED compared to that in the lowest tertile,showing an odds ratio(OR)of 0.56(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.37–0.85).Analysis of dose–response curves illustrated a negative correlation between dietary niacin intake and the risk of *** and interaction analyses fortified the consistency of these ***,PSM corroborated the validity of the *** study suggests an inverse association between dietary niacin intake and the risk of ***,establishing a cause-and-effect relationship remains elusive,and defining the safe threshold of niacin intake to prevent ED requires further investigation.

Towards sustainable adversarial training with successive perturbation generation

Adversarial training with online-generated adversarial examples has achieved promising performance in defending adversarial attacks and improving robustness of convolutional neural network ***,most existing adversarial training methods are dedicated to finding strong adversarial examples for forcing the model to learn the adversarial data distribution,which inevitably imposes a large computational overhead and results in a decrease in the generalization performance on clean *** this paper,we show that progressively enhancing the adversarial strength of adversarial examples across training epochs can effectively improve the model robustness,and appropriate model shifting can preserve the generalization performance of models in conjunction with negligible computational *** this end,we propose a successive perturbation generation scheme for adversarial training(SPGAT),which progressively strengthens the adversarial examples by adding the perturbations on adversarial examples transferred from the previous epoch and shifts models across the epochs to improve the efficiency of adversarial *** proposed SPGAT is both efficient and effective;e.g.,the computation time of our method is 900 min as against the 4100 min duration observed in the case of standard adversarial training,and the performance boost is more than 7%and 3%in terms of adversarial accuracy and clean accuracy,*** extensively evaluate the SPGAT on various datasets,including small-scale MNIST,middle-scale CIFAR-10,and large-scale *** experimental results show that our method is more efficient while performing favorably against state-of-the-art methods.
