Hydrogen exhibits the potential to treat Alzheimer's disease. Stereotactic injection has been previously used as an invasive method of administering active hydrogen, but this method has limitations in clinical practice. In this study, triple transgenic(3×Tg) Alzheimer's disease mice were treated with hydrogen-rich water for 7 months. The results showed that hydrogen-rich water prevented synaptic loss and neuronal death, inhibited senile plaques, and reduced hyperphosphorylated tau and neurofibrillary tangles in 3×Tg Alzheimer's disease mice. In addition, hydrogen-rich water improved brain energy metabolism disorders and intestinal flora imbalances and reduced inflammatory reactions. These findings suggest that hydrogen-rich water is an effective hydrogen donor that can treat Alzheimer's disease. This study was approved by the Animal Ethics and Welfare Committee of Shenzhen University, China(approval No. AEWC-20140615-002) on June 15, 2014.

In the past few years,the emergence of pre-training models has brought uni-modal fields such as computer vision(CV)and natural language processing(NLP)to a new era.Substantial works have shown that they are beneficial for downstream uni-modal tasks and avoid training a new model from scratch.So can such pre-trained models be applied to multi-modal tasks?Researchers have ex-plored this problem and made significant progress.This paper surveys recent advances and new frontiers in vision-language pre-training(VLP),including image-text and video-text pre-training.To give readers a better overall grasp of VLP,we first review its recent ad-vances in five aspects:feature extraction,model architecture,pre-training objectives,pre-training datasets,and downstream tasks.Then,we summarize the specific VLP models in detail.Finally,we discuss the new frontiers in VLP.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first survey focused on VLP.We hope that this survey can shed light on future research in the VLP field.

Glaucoma is characterized by the progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs),although the pathogenic mechanism remains largely unknown.To study the mechanism and assess RGC degradation,mouse models are often used to simulate human glaucoma and specific markers are used to label and quantify RGCs.However,manually counting RGCs is time-consuming and prone to distortion due to subjective bias.Furthermore,semi-automated counting methods can produce significant differences due to different parameters,thereby failing objective evaluation.Here,to improve counting accuracy and efficiency,we developed an automated algorithm based on the improved YOLOv5 model,which uses five channels instead of one,with a squeeze-and-excitation block added.The complete number of RGCs in an intact mouse retina was obtained by dividing the retina into small overlapping areas and counting,and then merging the divided areas using a non-maximum suppression algorithm.The automated quantification results showed very strong correlation (mean Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.993) with manual counting.Importantly,the model achieved an average precision of 0.981.Furthermore,the graphics processing unit (GPU) calculation time for each retina was less than 1 min.The developed software has been uploaded online as a free and convenient tool for studies using mouse models of glaucoma,which should help elucidate disease pathogenesis and potential therapeutics.

In the present work, structure changes during （SiO2） composites have been investigated systematically stretching of isotactic polypropylene （iPP） and iPP/silicon dioxide The or-form crystal structure of both iPP and iPP/SiO2 composites is destroyed and transforms into the mesophase as the samples are stretched at a low temperature （35℃）, while stretching at high temperatures （90℃ and 120℃） can restrain the appearance of defects and keep the perfection of crystal structure. FTIR results reveal that the stretching temperatures show no obvious difference of the effect on the orientation of pure iPP, however, the orientation of iPP/SiO2 composites is greatly changed by the tensile temperature. In the case of micron-sized SiO2 particles （average particle diameter d 〉 1 μm）, the orientation of the composites is lower than that of pure iPP at all stretching temperatures. The above results suggest that the stretching temperature and the SiO2 particle size have great influence on the structure variation and orientation behavior of iPP/SiO2 composites.

Hydrogen molecule, a special antioxidant, has been seem as a promising potential therapeutic medicine to treat many inflammation-related diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases.[1] Recently, we utilized and designed hydrogen-related compounds to overcome Alzheimer’s disease（AD）. On one hand, we directly utilized traditional hydrogen materials to treat AD mice, i,e. hydrogen-rich water（HRW）. Our results demonstrated that HRW could improve the bioenergetics and regulate the gut microbiota, ultimately exerted anti-inflammatory effects in AD mice. On the other hand, considering hydrogen’s low solubility（1.6 ppm）, we further designed nanoparticles that carry hydrogen or produce hydrogen. In this part, recently, we developed the small-sized Pd hydride（PdH） nanoparticles for high payload of hydrogen and in situ sustained hydrogen release in AD brain. The results showed that PdH nanoparticles effectively improved the mitochondrial function of damaged neurons and promoted the energy metabolism of neurons by inhibiting·OH, and inhibited neuronal apoptosis.[2] All these results support that hydrogen is an effective AD suppressing agent and hydrogen therapy would open a new window for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Polyester-based biodegradable polyurethane （PU） with different hard segment ratios was selected to modify the impact toughness of poly（L-lactide）（PLLA）. The influence of blending composition and hard segment ratio of PU on the phase morphology, crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of PLLA/PU blends has been investigated systematically. The results showed that the PU particles were uniformly dispersed in PLLA matrix at a scale from sub- microns to several microns. The glass transition temperature of PU within these blends decreased compared to that of neat PU, but rose slightly with its content and hard segment ratio. The presence of PU retarded the crystallization ability of PLLA, whereas enhanced its elongation at break and impact resistance effectively. As the PU content reaches up to 30 wt%, the phenomenon of brittle-ductile transition occurred, resulting in a rougher fracture surface with the formation of fibril-like structure. Moreover, under the same concentrations, the elongation at break and impact strength of PLLA blends decreased slightly with the increase of hard segment ratio of PU.

Background:Septic shock has a high incidence and mortality rate in Intensive Care Units(ICUs).Earlier intravenous fluid resuscitation can significantly improve outcomes in septic patients but easily leads to fluid overload(FO),which is associated with poor clinical outcomes.A single point value of fluid cannot provide enough fluid information.The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of fluid balance(FB)latent trajectories on clinical outcomes in septic patients.Methods:Patients were diagnosed with septic shock during the first 48 h,and sequential fluid data for the first 3 days of ICU admission were included.A group-based trajectory model(GBTM)which is designed to identify groups of individuals following similar developmental trajectories was used to identify latent subgroups of individuals following a similar progression of FB.The primary outcomes were hospital mortality,organ dysfunction,major adverse kidney events(MAKE)and severe respiratory adverse events(SRAE).We used multivariable Cox or logistic regression analysis to assess the association between FB trajectories and clinical outcomes.Results:Nine hundred eighty-six patients met the inclusion criteria and were assigned to GBTM analysis,and three latent FB trajectories were detected.64(6.5%),841(85.3%),and 81(8.2%)patients were identified to have decreased,low,and high FB,respectively.Compared with low FB,high FB was associated with increased hospital mortality[hazard ratio(HR)=1.63,95%CI 1.22–2.17],organ dysfunction[odds ratio(OR)=2.18,95%CI 1.22–3.42],MAKE(OR=1.80,95%CI 1.04–2.63)and SRAE(OR=2.33,95%CI 1.46–3.71),and decreasing FB was significantly associated with decreased MAKE(OR=0.46,95%CI 0.29–0.79)after adjustment for potential covariates.Conclusion:Latent subgroups of septic patients followed a similar FB progression.These latent fluid trajectories were associated with clinical outcomes.The decreasing FB trajectory was associated with a decreased risk of hospital mortality and MAKE.

BACKGROUND Basal cell adenoma (BCA) is a rare benign tumour that has unique histological characteristics and primarily arises in the parotid glands. According to published reports, nearby tissue destruction by BCA seems impossible. CASE SUMMARY We presented a case of a 54-year-old woman with a mass in the deep lobe of the right parotid gland involving the ipsilateral skull base and mastoid. The patient exhibited gradual right facial swelling but no other obvious symptoms. Combined resection of the total right parotid gland and partial skull base excision were performed. The biopsy conducted before the surgery and sections cut from intraoperatively obtained tissues were not definitive for identifying the character of the neoplasm. A final diagnosis of tubular BCA without malignant elements was established based on postoperative pathology results and immunohistochemical analysis. The tumour did not recur during the 12-mo follow-up period. CONCLUSION A diagnosis of BCA can only be established based on a histopathological examination after an excisional biopsy, and tubular BCA should carefully be considered as a destructive type.

In this article, a protocol for the teleportation of an unknown two-panicle entanglement is proposed. The feature of the present protocol is that we utilize an asymmetric threeparticle entangled state as the quantum channel. The optimal discrimination between two nonorthogonal quantum states is adopted. It is shown that an unknown two-particle entangled state can be probabilistically teleported from the sender to the remote receiver on condition that the co-sender successfully collaborates. The fidelity in this protocol is one. In addition, the probability of the successful teleportation is calculated and all kinds of transformations performed by the sender and the receiver are provided in detail.
